Diblokir ! . . Seorang warga di Kampung Cibogo Timur, Kelurahan Nyapah, Kecamatan Walantaka menutup akses jalan di beberapa titik di kampung tersebut. Ia mengklaim bahwa jalan yang sudah 20 tahun lebih digunakan sebagai akses jalan warga setempat, merupakan tanah miliknya. “Ini bukan jalan umum, tapi jalan pribadi. Semenjak 94 itu saya bikin pribadi. Surat-suratnya ada saya beli dari 5 orang, Narisa, Sawi, Siti, Manab, Jasudin,” ujar pria yang mengklaim tanah tersebut, Madsari, saat ditemui di kediamannya,Selasa (15/9). Madsari mengakui bahwa memang dirinya mempersilahkan tanah miliknya digunakan sebagai jalan warga. Namun saat itu, ia sedang dalam kondisi ekonomi yang berkecukupan.Berbeda dengan sekarang yang sedang jatuh. “Karena dulu tahun 1996 saya lagi ada,katakanlah banyak duit banyak mobil, cuma sekarang lagi jatuh tidak ada lagi yang bisa dijual.Satu-satunya ini (jalan yang ditutup),” terangnya. Karena kondisinya sekarang sedang membutuhkan uang, terpaksa Madsari menutup jalan dengan harapan agar pemerintah dapat membayar uang ganti rugi jika jalan tersebut ingin kembali dibuka. “700 meter panjangnya lebarnya 4 meter berarti kan 2.800 meter persegi. Saya tidak muluk-muluk minta ganti rugi, sekadar buat bayar utang dan dagang sekitar mobil 1 unit yang seharga Rp100 juta dan uang tunai Rp200 juta,” ucapnya. Bahkan, Madsari menegaskan bahwa jika pemerintah tidak membayar uang ganti rugi, sampai kapanpun dirinya tidak akan memperbolehkan tanah tersebut dijadikan jalan umum. Bahkan apabila dirinya sudah meninggal dunia. “Saya tutup sampai seterusnya.Mohon maaf, kalau pun saya gak ada umur, saya pesan amanah kalau tidak diganti rugi jangan dibuka. Seterusnya ditutup, mau ditanemin singkong juga itu hak saya,” tegasnya. Sementara itu, Lurah Nyapah,Oewin, mengatakan bahwa pihaknya telah berkoordinasi dengan Madsari selaku warga yang mengklaim jalan tersebut merupakan tanah dirinya.Namun ternyata, belum menemukan titik terang dalam penyelesaiannya. Borooah Nilaya: It was built by Jogendra Nath Borooah in 1924. It is the ancestral house of Robindra Nath Borooah, former editor of The Assam Tribune and Assamese Film Director, Munin Barua. Named ‘Borooah Nilaya’, it is located near Jorpukhuri, Ambari and is almost a century old. Jogendra Nath Borooah was originally from Sarupathar, Golaghat. He was the district judge in Gauhati at that time and chose to settle here. What’s unique about this British era house is that it was the first private house of the city to have a structural frame of steel, something far ahead for its time. The structural steel columns and beams were manufactured in England and were used to construct the roof of the ground floor, and for the platform for the first floor. The steel beams were placed very closely so that bricks could be inserted between the I beams ( H sections) and then cemented, to create a floor. The walls of the house are made of cane and mud paste. So also is the false ceiling. The top root is of tin. The ‘porte cochere’ (covered entrance) of this beautiful building has ornamental ironwork brought in from England and Belgium. The house has four rooms on the top floor including a living room, a dining room and two bedrooms. There is also a kitchen on this floor. There are four more rooms on the ground floor. As Guwahati had much colder winters at that time, fireplaces were built in each room on the ground floor. And two wooden staircases, at the front and back of the house respectively. As the family supported the ideologies of the Swadeshi Movement, at the back of the house there was a ‘jotor’ (spinning wheel) to spin thread from cotton and a ‘taat saal’ (loom) to weave handloom clothes keeping up with the Assamese tradition. The Barooah family also had a ‘bhoral’ (granary) to store grains. “Apart from their eight children, Jogendra Borooah and his wife Chandra Prova Borooah had also hosted a lot of family members who came to Guwahati for education and jobs. I discovered the beautiful leafy Chembur neighbourhood with its Central Avenue, lanes, old heritage bungalows and buildings many years ago thanks to my wife who is from Chembur. Also later thanks to the @wsdindia street dog vaccinations, we would go into some of the bungalow compounds like of The Grotto to vaccinate dogs against rabies. I always used to marvel seeing Belvedere as it was one of the best kept bungalows and had a prime location on the Central Avenue very near the OLPS Church. I recently came across an autobiography of Aloysius Soares(1891- 1971), educationist and political thinker. He built Belvedere and moved into it in 1933. You can see a photograph of him sitting in the garden of Belvedere if you scroll left. He has penned the history of the area... An ambitious scheme of the Bombay Governments Development Department was the Chembur Garden Suburb in the island of Trombay. The Bombay Catholic Welfare Association registered St Anthony Homes Co-operative Society in 1925 bought a lot of ground from the Development Department thinking that city folk would want to move to a lonely and peaceful neighbourhood away from the noise, bustle and congestion of the city. The land bought was divided into 4 schemes A - purely residential with small plot for relatively poor people could built modest cottages. B - for convent school and spacious playground C - In Vadavali for a Capuchin monastery and agro-industrial estate. D - reserved for church, boys school, gymkhana and a play ground. Later some plots were reserved for a graveyard. Today, many of the old bungalows and buildings have been redeveloped and in their place are tall buildings. সে প্রায় বছর দশেক আগের কথা। তখন সদ্য সদ্য কলকাতায় এসেছি। হস্টেলে থাকতাম। রাস্তাঘাট বিশেষ কিছুই চিনতাম না। শুধু হাওড়া স্টেশন থেকে ট্রেন ধরে বাড়ি যেতে হত বলে, হস্টেল থেকে স্টেশন এর রাস্তাটুকু বেশ ভালো করে চিনতাম। তো এরকমই এক ডিসেম্বরের শহরে সকাল সকাল ট্রেন ধরব বলে হওড়া স্টেশন পৌঁছলাম। নির্ধারিত সময়ের বেশ কিছুটা আগেই পৌঁছে গেছিলাম স্টেশনে। মধ্যবিত্ত পরিবার থেকে এসেছি। তাই না ছিল হাতে কোনো দামী ফোন, না কোনো ক্যামেরা। খুব সাধারণ একটা ক্যামেরা ফোন ছিল, মানে ওই কথা বলার যেটুকু দরকার সেরকম। তো স্টেশন এর সামনে বাস থেকে নেমে যখন হাওড়া ব্রিজের দিকে তাকালাম, মুগ্ধ হয়ে গেলাম। পুব আকাশ রাঙা করে সবে সূর্য উঠছে। আর তার রক্তিম আভা গায়ে মেখে দাঁড়িয়ে রয়েছে হাওড়া ব্রিজ। উফ্ সেই দৃশ্য ভোলার নয়। আমার ছোট্ট ফোনে তোলা এই শহরের প্রথম ছবি। সেদিন প্রথম এই শহরের প্রতি ভালোবাসা অনুভব করেছিলাম।আর সেই ভালোবাসা সময়ের সঙ্গে শুধু বেড়েই গেছে। . .
