I discovered the beautiful leafy Chembur neighbourhood with its Central Avenue, lanes, old heritage bungalows and buildings many years ago thanks to my wife who is from Chembur. Also later thanks to the @wsdindia street dog vaccinations, we would go into some of the bungalow compounds like of The Grotto to vaccinate dogs against rabies. I always used to marvel seeing Belvedere as it was one of the best kept bungalows and had a prime location on the Central Avenue very near the OLPS Church. I recently came across an autobiography of Aloysius Soares(1891- 1971), educationist and political thinker. He built Belvedere and moved into it in 1933. You can see a photograph of him sitting in the garden of Belvedere if you scroll left. He has penned the history of the area... An ambitious scheme of the Bombay Governments Development Department was the Chembur Garden Suburb in the island of Trombay. The Bombay Catholic Welfare Association registered St Anthony Homes Co-operative Society in 1925 bought a lot of ground from the Development Department thinking that city folk would want to move to a lonely and peaceful neighbourhood away from the noise, bustle and congestion of the city. The land bought was divided into 4 schemes A - purely residential with small plot for relatively poor people could built modest cottages. B - for convent school and spacious playground C - In Vadavali for a Capuchin monastery and agro-industrial estate. D - reserved for church, boys school, gymkhana and a play ground. Later some plots were reserved for a graveyard. Today, many of the old bungalows and buildings have been redeveloped and in their place are tall buildings. I am grateful to the Indian Navy (Today on the eve of Kamal Shah’s 75th birthday) “When I was in third year of medical collage at Baroda, a team from Army had come to select potential doctors for the armed forces. We were told that if selected, my stipend would commence straightway. It was an opportunity I was looking for, as I was also inspired by both 1962 Sino-Indo and later 1965 Indo-Pak wars and hence prevailed over my Gujarati roots and their choice for my future. I was selected and gave my preference for the Navy. On completion of MBBS, I joined INHS Asvini in 1967 at Bombay for internship.” “I cannot forget the kindness and benevolence of my seniors in the medical service. Later, when I wanted to do my specialisation, my low medical category came in the way for selection. However, I am grateful to Rear Admiral Gregory Peck, who was then Director Medical Services (Navy) at NHQ to overrule and permit me to do the post-graduation, despite the fact, that I had no personal connect with him. I specialised as Dermatologist from the navy and much later did another post-graduation in Medicine on my own.” “Believe me, I started my career in Asvini and retired after 35 years from Asvini. Both my son and daughter were born in Asvini and they also got married, whilst I was in Asvini. Two of my grandchildren were also born in Asvini. I am proud and grateful to my naval medical service that my wife Daksha, completed her graduation, post-graduation and later doctoral degree whilst serving in Asvini. 4 anos se passaram...Meu grande amigo e canga. Que se preocupava e me protegia em todos os momentos e ocorrências no 4PPT. Que dava risada pelas coisas mais simples. Que sempre oferecia uma bolachinha quando a fome batia. Que sempre era o primeiro a chegar. Que dormiu de farda de tanta emoção no nosso primeiro dia de 4PPT. Que usava a boina imensa que que dei pra ele (parecia um cogumelo) e não tava nem aí. Que tatuou força & honra nas costas porque isso ele tinha de sobra. Que era chamado carinhosamente de cascão porque cortava o cabelo da forma mais engraçada do mundo. E era autêntico demais por isso. Era único. Que decorava todas as ruas, nomes e ocorrências de uma forma que jamais verei na vida. Que estendia a mão quando alguém caía. E se não pudesse estender a mão, caía junto, porque era canga em todas as horas. Quantas risadas que a gente deu trabalhando, era demais!! Que se emocionava mesmo nos mais simples qtc. Que tinha uma inteligência de gênio jamais vista.Que não se abalava pelas ameaças que recebia porque sabia que agiria sempre de forma justa, verdadeira, profissional e honesta. Que me abria os olhos quando eu não enxergava. Que tanto me ensinou no tempo que convivemos juntos. Que me apoiava e brigava por mim quando eu sofria algum tipo de preconceito, pois tinha a empatia que eu tanto admirava. Meu deus! Por que? Com tanto ser humano lixo por aí...nosso cascão foi tirado da gente de forma tão precoce. Ainda dói demais e faz falta demais. Um dia...espero entender toda essa loucura de vida e de morte. One of the Causes to Depression: Part 1 Prisoner in society Depression is a mental and spiritual thing. No one can help you cure depression. Not even pills can cure depression. Depression is something that you have to defeat on your own by going within yourself. I believe that if you want to overcome your depression you have to commit to fully understanding deeply for yourself what depression truly is. It may lead you to finding ways to overcome it and understanding yourself. I too experienced depression and I realized that the reason I was depressed was because of the life that I was choosing to live. And I felt controlled like as if my life wasnt really my life. Who was i living life for, was it for me or was it for others? I had to question the way that i was thinking, questioning all of my beliefs. I began realizing that my beliefs werent my beliefs at all. They were all beliefs instill in me from a young age. Things that society tells you to have value in. All the society rules that I have been following including my own countries traditions and believes and I realized that my freedom was restricted and I had to be a certain way in order for people to accept me. I felt like a prisoner within sociey, allowing myself to be controlled. I was so miserable that it was as if my free-will is taken away from me. Where I felt helpless,hopeless, and powerless. And alot of people dont realize how they are allowing others to have control over them and their life. I believe that depression is a self-sabotage, a self-destruct button where you are you choosing to rebel. Your soul is saying that you are tired and dont like the life that you have chosen to live. જૂનાગઢ-2 કેન્દ્રનું પરિણામ માત્ર 12.28 શિક્ષકોની ઘટ જૂનાગઢ: માધ્યમિક અને ઉચ્ચતર માધ્યમિક શિક્ષણ બોર્ડ દ્વારા ધોરણ 12 સામાન્ય પ્રવાહની પરીક્ષા લેવામાં આવી હતી,જેનું ગુરૂવારે પરિણામ જાહેર થયું છે. જૂનાગઢ જિલ્લાનું છેલ્લા પાંચ વર્ષનું સૌથી કંગાળ પરિણામ આવ્યું છે. જૂનાગઢ જિલ્લામાં 16 કેન્દ્ર પર પરીક્ષા લેવામાં આવી હતી. જૂનાગઢ જિલ્લામાં 17163 છાત્રો નોંધાયા હતાં, તે પૈકી 16932 છાત્રોએ પરીક્ષા આપી હતી તેમાંથી 8569 છાત્રો ઉર્તીણ થયા છે. જૂનાગઢ જિલ્લાનું 50.61 ટકા પરિણામ આવ્યું છે. ગત વર્ષે જૂનાગઢ જિલ્લાનું 51.27 ટકા પરિણામ હતું. ચાલુ વર્ષે 0.66 ટકાનો ઘટાડો થયો ચાલુ વર્ષે એ1 ગ્રેડ મેળવનાર છાત્રો 9 છે, જે ગત વર્ષની સરખામણીએ 2 ઓછા છે. જિલ્લાનાં 16 કેન્દ્રોમાં જૂનાગઢ-2 કેન્દ્રનું 12.28 ટકા જ પરિણામ આવ્યું છે. ધોરણ 12 સામાન્ય પ્રવાહનું વર્ષ 2014માં 67.68 ટકા પરિણામ આવ્યું હતું, બાદ દર વર્ષે પરિણામમાં ઘટાડો થઇ રહ્યો છે. છેલ્લા 5 વર્ષમાં ધોરણ 12 સામાન્ય પ્રવાહનાં પરિણામમાં 17.07 ટકા ઘટાડો થયો છે. બીજી તરફ જૂનાગઢ જિલ્લામાં ગ્રાન્ટેડ અને સરકારી હાઇસ્કુલમાં આચાર્ય અને શિક્ષકોની મોટા પ્રમાણમાં ઘટ છે. જૂનાગઢ જિલ્લામાં ગ્રાન્ટેડ હાઇસ્કુલ 238 છે. આ સ્કુલમાં 117 આચાર્ય અને 160 શિક્ષકોની ઘટ છે.જિલ્લામાં 17 સરકારી હાઇસ્કુલ છે,જેમાં 13 આચાર્ય અને 12 શિક્ષકની ઘટ છે. જિલ્લામાં માત્ર 4 આચાર્યથી સરકારી હાઇસ્કુલ ચાલી રહી છે. શિક્ષકોની ભરતી નહી થાય તો આગામી વર્ષે પણ જૂનાગઢ જિલ્લાનું પરિણામ કંગાળ જ રહેશે. - @aapdu_junagadh_ on Instagram

At the beginning of the novel, Ashoke was portrayed as an educated man whom Ashima’s parents have arranged a marriage with. As a young man, he was faced with a tragic crash traveling on a train in India. This part of the novel continually comes up throughout the novel as Gogol is the name of their first child and it shapes the way he lives his life. Since he was reading a book from Gogol Nikhil at the time, that moment has always stuck in his mind as the author who saved his life. After Ashima gives birth, and they name the child Gogol, many challenges are faced by Ashoke. He faces constant pressure of providing for his family, which causes him to lose the precious time he could be spending with them. Towards the end of the novel, we lose sight of him until he has a heart attack and dies.
