What a fantastic article from @weinkenner.de : „Schon im letz­ten Jahr – also lan­ge vor Coro­na – hat­te mir Johan­nes Hirsch Mus­ter sei­ner sechs Rie­den­wei­ne vom Jahr­gang 2018 zur Pro­be geschickt. Im Mai habe ich end­lich die letz­ten bei­den Fla­schen geköpft (genau genom­men: auf­ge­dreht, sie haben näm­lich einen Schraub­ver­schluß). Wenn Coro­na, wie der SPIEGEL schrieb, „auf das Lebens­glück drückt“, dann leg­te sich die Bedrü­ckung bei die­sen Wei­nen wenigs­tens für einen klei­nen Moment. Bei­de, der Grü­ne Velt­li­ner „Ried Lamm“ und vor allem der Grü­ne Velt­li­ner „Ried Grub“, sind Wei­ne, die man nicht so leicht ver­gisst. Ich habe sie getrun­ken, nicht nur pro­biert. Den Rest der Fla­sche nach einem Pro­bier­glas in den Aus­guss zu kip­pen, sträub­te sich etwas in mir. Ers­tens stel­len die sechs Rie­den­wei­ne die Spit­ze der Hirsch’schen Qua­li­täts­py­ra­mi­de dar. Zwei­tens sind sie äußerst limi­tiert und nur in den bes­ten Kel­lern Öster­reichs zu fin­den. Drit­tens gehört Hirsch seit eini­gen Jah­ren zur abso­lu­ten Spit­ze der öster­rei­chi­schen Wein­er­zeu­ger, im Kamp­tal auf Augen­hö­he mit Bründl­may­er. Und vier­tens sind gro­ße Weiß­wei­ne rar auf dem Erd­ball – im Gegen­satz zu gro­ßen Rot­wei­nen. Wenn man einen Lafi­te oder einen Soldera-Brunello nicht wäh­rend der Pro­be aus­spu­cken darf, dann schüt­tet man auch einen Hirsch nach der Pro­be nicht in den Aus­guss. Fin­de ich. Zum „Ried Grub“: Die­ser Grü­ne Velt­li­ner prunkt nicht mit aus­la­den­der Fül­le, son­dern beein­druckt mit straf­fer Struk­tur, fili­gra­ner Steinobst-Frucht, cre­mi­ger Hefe­no­te und aus­ge­präg­ter Flintstein-Mineralik. Ein streng ver­ti­ka­ler Wein aus einer Ers­ten Lage, der noch stark von sei­nen Primär- und Sekun­där­aro­men geprägt ist und beim ers­ten Schluck noch in sich gekehrt wirkt. Aber er ent­wi­ckelt sich schnell im Glas und deu­tet mit sei­ner Extra­sü­ße und sei­ner Tie­fe an, dass er einer der ganz Gro­ßen in Öster­reich ist. Der Griesserhof ist urkundlich im Jahre 1192 das erste mal erwähnt und war eine Schenkung des Kloster Neustift an den Bischof von Brixen.Die Besonderheit des Hofes ist seine Lage am Fuße der Gletschermoräne- Gols - in der Mitte des Brixner Talkessels. Der Griesserhof sorgte als sogenannter Maierhof für den Unterhalt des Klerus. Am Griesserhof wurde immer schon Wein gekeltert, im Jahre 2009 wurde das erste Mal Wein in 7/10 Flaschen gefüllt und seit 2016 in DOC Qualität. Derzeit werden auf 6 ha Wein angebaut und ca. 20.000 Flaschen Wein gefüllt. Der Rest der Trauben wird aktuell an das Kloster Neustift verkauft. Der Sortenspiegel umfasst die klassischen Eisacktaler Sorten wie - Müller Thurgau, Sylvaner, Kerner , Veltliner, aber auch die klassisch Südtiroler Sorten wie Sauvignon und Gewürztraminer. Die Besonderheit unseres Weingutes liegt sicherlich in den unterschiedlichen Kleinlagen , Gols, Gall, und Rigger die alle verschiedene Ausrichtungen und Besonderheiten haben, und auch separat ausgebaut und gefüllt werden. Unsere Philosophie ist es das Optimum von Sorte und Lage herauszuholen und Weine mit klarer, einfacher Textur zu keltern. Blanc 2015 from Prieuré Roch (co-owner of the DRC) is an...orange wine made from Chardonnay. After opening, it requires some oxygenation to reveal a nice complexity after a rather dull bit pleasant cider feel at the very start. If you enjoy this type of wine, it’s a good example but do not expect to drink a Gravner or so. Una delle realtà che più mi ha colpito ad Asolo è quella di @asolomanor perché ho visto tanta determinazione e impegno nel voler dimostrare le qualità che ha questo territorio. We showed this amazing Chablis at our first tasting event 3 years ago. It’s drinking absolutely beautifully today, could go for another 3+ years. Stunning concentration. Gorgeous passionfruit, honey suckle, peach, pineapple on the nose. Such precision on drive on the palate, peaches, candied lemon and a hint of almond. Acidity remains lively but well balanced. So much power and intensity. Moreaus Grand Cru Valmur is a powerful, rich style of Chablis. The tiny plot of Grand Cru Valmur sits snuggly between Vaudésir to the north and Les Clos to the south. Domaine Christian Moreau Pere et Fils owns a total of 3 acres of this famed terroir. The plot is densely planted (7000 vines per hectare) with vines averaging 50 years old and the majority of these vines benefit from a sun-catching, south-east exposure. To complement this, there is an additional, cooler north-west facing plot, which brings pertinent freshness and vivacity to the blend. Up to 50% of the blend spends some time in oak, of which 90% are 2-3 year old barrels. Just 10% is new oak. This exceptionally powerful and rich Grand Cru Chablis is a result of exceptional vineyard location, fruit being produced from old vines and meticulous winemaking. Normally sourced from the Canberra district, the bushfires of 2020 put an end to that. The fruit for this release comes from the Yarra Valley. There are some small plantings of Riesling around the region (a surprise to many), this one comes from @debortoliwines Dixon Creek site. A beautifully fragrant wine with pretty white flowers and hint of honeyed tones. Limes are rife throughout with fine touches of meringue peaks and cut green apple. Step by step the harvest continues… Today we harvest the Goldmuskateller or Moscato Giallo grapes for our passito #vinalia   The Messnerhof is located at 560m above sea level in St. Georgen, above the South Tyrolean capital Bozen.   The selected grapes are carefully placed in these small boxes, in it they are air dried for almost half a year. During this period the grapes lose more than 80% of their original weight. After the gentle pressing, the must is slowly fermented in French barriques.   👉 The Vinalia has notes of ripe apricot, pineapple, sugar melon and peaches. Our Viti team donned the attire of #Barossa vine pruners of the early 1900’s to revive the ancient practice of burning the vine canes at our Daylight Chamber vineyard. Using a borrowed antique metal Barossa cane burning trolley, they brought in ‘Bear’, a local Draught Horse, to lend a hand. It brought a bit of enjoyment to what is usually slow and arduous work of hand pruning, especially in the middle of winter, but was a reminder that some of the most traditional viticultural practices are still more than relevant today, while honouring the groundwork laid down by the past generations of Barossa grape growers. Die Anbauversuche sind hierbei abgeschlossen, auch einige unserer Mitglieder haben diese Sorte im Anbau. Haben Sie schon mal einen Cabernet Cortis getrunken? - Lunedì abbiamo visitato lannuale a Happacherhof di Auer e il Centro Sperimentale di Laimburg per vedere le attuali coltivazioni sperimentali Piwi. Ogni anno questo è emozionante, perché poter osservare la resistenza dei diversi vitigni in uno spazio così ristretto è utile per poter fare dichiarazioni al riguardo. In seguito siamo stati autorizzati a partecipare alla degustazione finale degli esperimenti del Cabernet Cortis nella cantina rupestre del Laimburg. Sine Qua Non, Chardonnay, “Mr. K - The Noble Man - Alban Vineyard,” California [375ml] 2006 . Founded in 1994 by Manfred Krankl and his wife Elaine. The Krankls began making their own wines in 1994 due to personal interest and with the added benefit of being able, if the wines were good enough, to sell them to the successful Mediterranean-themed Los Angeles restaurant Campanile, which Manfred co-founded and managed. Beginning with several self described project wines made in partnership with John Alban and other vintners, initial production was approximately 100 cases. After several experiments with white varietals, Rhone red varietals and even Pinot noir, the Krankls found their sweet spot in 1994 with a predominantly Syrah-based blend they named Queen of Spades that earned a 95 point rating from Robert Parker. Today, this wine retails at an average price of $5,861 per bottle. Manfred was also a co-founder of La Brea Bakery. Sale of a portion of his ownership position in LaBrea enabled him to focus on wine-making full-time, at which point total production, diversity of releases, and competency with the full spectrum of Rhone (and other) varietals steadily increased. Sourcing fruit from a wide variety of growers from year to year, and increasingly from their own vineyards has caused the winery to never make exactly the same wine twice, about which Krankl has said, People buy Sine Qua Non. They don’t seem to give a toot where it’s from”. . In collaboration with Austrian winemaker Alois Kracher, Manfred and Elaine Krankl have also produced sweet wines under the label Mr. K (after the surnames of the two winemakers). Our first grapes arrived on Monday which is the earliest start of harvest for Hattingley in history. The Pinot Noir Précoce grapes from our Sussex and Kent partner vineyards are the key ingredient for our multi award winning Sparkling and STILL Rosé. Emma Rice, Head Winemaker at Hattingley Valley, visited all our vineyards to collect bunch samples to analyse average weight, Brix (sugars) and TA (acids). I often visit diplomatic receptions whereby not always attention is paid to the wines. The 50 embassies that serve champagne by @champagnegremillet however, nailed it! Maison Gremillet is managed by Jean-Christophe and his sister Anne Gremillet and is located in Balnot sur Laignes in Côte des Bars, covering around 40 ha of vineyards mainly planted with Pinot Noir. Most of their cuvées are Decanter medalists and some have won the Gold medal at the Concours Général Agricole, a prestigious award. Maison Gremillet owns 1 of the Clos in the champagne region, Le Clos Rocher, 100% PN. (a Clos Champagne is made from grapes of a single vineyard, producing wines with specific characteristics of the microclimate.) Le Clos Rocher 2013 is the jewel of Maison Gremillet and is their newest release. It has 7 gr/l with a liqueur expedition coming from finished bottles of champagne which is common for the production of vintage and prestige cuvées. Another champagne geek thing to know is that Gremillet champagnes are exclusively produced from the first press (the cuvée). On the nose and palate it has nutty aroma’s, almonds, citrus, ripe yellow apple, exotic fruit and light notes of marzipan. A good acidity and a beautiful mineral finish! This champagne gets me in the party mood in a split of a second!! It’s hard NOT to fall in love with this wine Chateau Labegorce2016 Tremendous passion, proficiency and enthusiasm translate to a wine that will not disappoint always a great value buy now open it later (3yrs min if you have patience) 2016 Château Labégorce is a head-turner of a Margaux that’s based on 52% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that was brought up in 45% new oak, with the balance in once-used barrels. Sexy notes of blackcurrants, black raspberries, crushed flowers, sandalwood, and incense all flow to a medium to full-bodied, fabulously textured Margaux that carries ripe tannins, loads of fruit and richness, and a great finish.  The vines average 30 years of age, with the oldest vines, of which there are just four hectares, dating from between 1902 and 1950. More date from 1951 to 1985, whereas a quarter date from 1989 when extensive replanting took place. Vineyard practices involve careful use of chemicals, with no herbicide used at all, and yields are typically 50 hl/ha. Harvesting is by hand, and fermentation begins with a short, cold maceration followed by a temperature controlled process. Each parcel of vines, of which there are many, is vinified separately. Malolactic fermentation takes place in oak, 30% of which is new, where the wine spends up to fifteen months. It is fined using egg whites before bottling - @mysterywino on Instagram

All of the vines are classified as Premier Cru in the village of Rilly-la-Montagne. The vineyards are all farmed by the Vilmart House, which is either owned or in a long term contract with neighboring properties. The vineyards are sustainably farmed and hand-harvested. The base wine is 2015 with reserve wines from 2013 and 2014. The wine is aged for 10 months in large oak casks. The wines do not go through malolactic fermentation. If the glassblower didnt push the seam of the bottom of the wine bottle up, it would not stand up straight (because there would be a lump). Today, a deeper punt can mean its a nicer, tastier bottle of wine. So run your hand underneath that bottle of vino before purchasing! Vendimia parcela O Forcadal. Viñas muy muy viejas de Treixadura, Godello, Torrontés y Albariño. De esta parcela han salido vinos, que han bebido ilustres gallegos como Laxeiro, Maside y Alvaro Cunqueiro. De estas y otras viñas salían los vinos para la antigua A Rexidora de Ourense y los vinos de la #tabernaelixio en Vigo. Local inmortalizado en múltiples novelas de #domingovillar. El propietario del bar era familia de los antiguos propietarios de esta y más viñas. Los vinos se elaboran en la casa familiar de Gomariz en grandes cubas y después salían para Ourense y Vigo. Hace ya cinco años que la recuperé, conservando sus viejas cepas, sustituyendo las muertas y devolviéndole el esplendor pasado. Sigo trabajándola de forma manual, sin herbicidas, ni productos tóxicos. Con cubierta vegetal y cuidando los suelos según Fukuoka. Ahora parece una viña diferente y vuelve a estar viva. Bringing home Furmint. We used the dry and nice weather to organize a family and friends harvest to bring our last bunches of furmint home before the next rain is coming. If Pinot Noir is a diva, Furmint is a drama-queen. There was a lot of selection necessary. As always in the Kalkofen vineyard, we walked on a diverse natural meadow (see the last photo).
