I try to associate touching [Xéla’s] hair with moments where she is at peace with herself. Sometimes it will be before she goes to bed or in the morning or in the afternoon when she’s napping. Every time I touch her hair, I consult with her and get her involved in it. There are all these things I’m asking her. Whether or not she understands what I’m saying, I’m providing her with consciousness and that is what is really crucial. We are definitely bonding when she’s sitting down between my legs and we do her hair, which is a really emotional thing for me because it takes me back to my childhood. It takes place in Fresnedillas de la Oliva, a small Spanish village in the Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range. The festival celebrates a rite of passage and initiation for boys aged fourteen and up who are becoming men. Participants ring cowbells to awaken the sun and attract the attention of the spectators, especially young women. “My journey with Japanese swordsmanship began long before I started physically training. My life had come to a crossroads. I was searching, furiously, for something. I just didn’t know what it was yet. One particular evening I experienced a moment of profound inspiration. It felt like being plugged directly into the Divine, however clichéd that may sound. In that moment I felt an overwhelming sense of unexplored purpose & longed to dedicate my life to the service of something greater than myself. Looking back, I know that something was listening. A decision led to a continent change, an idea led to an enquiry, a class led to an introduction. The first kata I saw my Sensei perform was like magic. Time slowed, the air grew thick & crackled with intention. I knew. Even when other parts of me fought against the feeling in my gut, I knew. Many years have passed since that day. My life has changed almost beyond recognition. I have grown in ways I could never have imagined. I have struggled, & still struggle with parts of myself I didn’t even know existed before. At times the self-doubt I feel is overwhelming, crippling even. I try to remember Sensei’s advice, not just for these times, but for all times: focus on the target. I don’t always remember or succeed in doing this, but when I do, I am reminded that this is one of the most powerful tools you can have at your disposal. Both in life & in martial practice. The art I practice demands an extraordinary amount of effort - not just physically & mentally, but spiritually as well. I’ve sacrificed many of the things I thought I wanted in life - career, busy social life, children, a healthy bank account & yet my life feels full to bursting point. Despite years of training, I still feel like a beginner with so much to learn. I only hope that I succeed in remaining fit & healthy enough over the coming decades to do this art justice. #tbt apesar de q ja é 6a... Ensaio que fiz no Estádio do Pacaembú e que sintoniza bem com esse momento louco que estamos vivendo... Sobre o vazio, as ausências e o silêncio. Por um lado mais como eu gostaria que as ruas estivessem nesse momento do que como elas efetivamente estão. Sexta passada fui pra rua e tinha uma quantidade assustadora de gente reunida em frente a um bar. Fui na feira e tava todo mundo sem máscara. Troquei idéia com um feirante perguntando sobre a falta de uso de máscaras e ele me respondeu com desdém que era opcional e que no final todo mundo ia pegar isso mesmo, (Covid) então não fazia diferença se proteger... Tentei argumentar sobre o fato de que ia idéia não era proteger somente a si mesmo... sem sucesso... saí dali com um nó na garganta que mais adiante explodiu em choro... Chorei de máscaras no meio da rua... não recomendo. Gruda o ranho nas máscara e vc não pode enxugar as lágrimas #trágico... De lá passei na frente do bar onde tinha uma 20 pessoas na calçada tomando breja. Tirei fotos com o cel um cara ficou puto. Bati boca chorei mais um pouco. Tava de TPM tava... mas disse pra mim q era quarentena... e na real a única coisa que fazia sentido no meio da falta de sentido absoluta de tudo isso era e ainda é hj chorar. Cacete... Faz uma semana já não saio e hoje acordei super angustiada com a sensação de todas incertezas do mundo ao mesmo tempo e um buraco no peito. Uma falta. A tal falta de sentido de tudo.
