The extraordinary woman who carried both our sons is a private person. She’s not a publicity seeking person like yourself. Collectively, we decided to remove the surrogate’s name from our son’s birth certificate to protect her identity. This turned out to be an extremely wise move, as a journalist managed to illegally acquire a copy of our son’s birth certificate from the registry office. A spectacular feat, given we hadn’t even received the very first copy ourselves. The same newspaper that has run your misguided rantings also published the full details from that birth certificate online. May I respectfully ask you to butt out and mind your own business? I’m very excited to share my acceptance into the @whisfilmfest Screenwriters Lab with “Miracle Mother,” an adaptation of my mother’s (@kimmettonthecouch) Governor General’s Award-nominated play. The story is loosely based on her experience of giving birth to my sister, who was three months premature, and the subsequent struggle to find peace and forgiveness within herself, with her mother, and her spirituality. It has been a cathartic practice slipping on my mother’s shoes, reworking and adapting her play and our family’s story. By immersing myself in her experience of having two children less than a year apart (at the same age I am now), I’ve tapped into a well of empathy that gets to the heart of what I hope to express to the audience. The moment one sees their parents for what they are - Human. Ultimately, it’s a love letter to my mom, her art and creative drive, for which I owe my desire to create. I can’t wait to dive into this program and get this movie made. Thanks for all the love and support. I feel fortunate, honoured and privileged to have this opportunity.
