Islam is a religion which vehemently opposes injustice and oppression. If we look at the earliest examples of our history amongst the Prophet and Sahabas (because they upheld the highest moral values)we will witness how those who oppress are brought to justice swiftly and surely. Community work and social justice was the number one priority when Islam was established by them. It enrages me that men hold the positions as guardians of this faith but they are also the perpetrators and the devil that destroys it. Out of love, I don’t honor Alexander Hamilton. I don’t honor men of greed, I don’t honor slave owners, Men who cheat on their wives, or created the financial system of credit that has given us our debt as a nation (in the trillions and counting). I don’t agree with the student debt that was created, the student debt, the individual medical debts and so on. Today is not a day to celebrate. America needs to look at itself in the mirror, admit its terror on the world, and heal. We’ve dropped Atom bombs on nations, just us. You’ve been on lockdown for 4 months. How long have the “Natives” of this land been in reservations? How long have people of color been shouting for their lives. No other race or gender is getting killed on a weekly basis like black people. Period. Also, out of love (because this is not anger it’s just my truth) a quasi-apology via and email and a social media post 4 yrs later from people I looked in the eye and with my words asked for help, to stand beside me and my cast when we had an opportunity to speak on this issue, broke my heart. But from that I learned what I needed to heal. I’m healing and finally get to celebrate the beauty of people and what we created in truth. I read this and I thought WOAH. You’d never know if a comment made in passing, or a teasing remark made lightheartedly will stick with them forever.
