Today marks one of the saddest days I can recall from my childhood. 19 years ago today, September 11th, 2001, was the last time I ever saw my father. I still remember seeing the twin towers burning on our old tv set, while my dad sat in an armchair watching. He came to visit me and my Mother for a few days, and I didn’t know it at the time, but I guess he was saying goodbye. I didn’t get to see him very often growing up, but I’ll never forget the times he was around. He was a big ol’ tall blue eyed blonde haired goofball. We had a blast for the short time he was there, and I still remember every little detail of that day. Just a few days later he committed suicide. For anyone out there who’s lost someone to suicide, I just want to let you know that I feel for you. I can’t say that it’s gunna get any easier, or that everything’s gunna be alright, but I will say that you can either let it bring you down, or you can try and use it to shape yourself into a stronger person. It’s still something I struggle with, and to this day I have a hard time seeing the world as a happy and kind place. It wasn’t one for me, for a long time. Sometimes you just gotta take it day by day and try and play your hand the best you can. If you or someone you know is struggling with depression, just know that it’s never too late to talk to someone and try to get help. Call the suicide prevention lifeline, if you don’t feel like there’s anyone in your life you can open up to. Sometimes talking to stranger can do more good than you’d think. Why are hair influenzers and none hairstylist product lines selling shampoo or modiFrying the CGM yet still calling it the The CGMethod? Then why call it the CG method? Is it for more Likes only? Is it because of a quick profit turnaround? Is it the result of over layering & buildup up from sulfate-silicone and oil attachment? Have you ever seen the long term result or felt the hair of a person using a product you so highly recommended one day and recommended something completely different the next? When you are promoting products and ingredients with no science background or not having hands on experience with other peoples hair that is not just your own, (Sorry mannequins do not count) you must start to ask these questions. My first question would be how can one possibly know what your hair likes if you are constantly bombarding your hair with different products daily? ShamPoo for curly hair is the like drinking salt water when you are thirsty, resulting in dry mouth. Using products containing heavy buttery, waxy oily, silicone & sodium hydroxide ingredients 100% stick to the hair like goo! I have to say that this by far is the HARDEST thing I’ve endured up until this point in my life. Yesterday I said goodbye to the AMAZING “Dot White” my grandmother. My best friend. I was her biggest fan. She is one person who not only knew me at my core but VALIDATED me in ways that I never thought were possible. I am how I am because of this woman. If I treated you right, inspired you in ANY way, encouraged you, had your back... it was because She and my mom instilled that in me. This woman PRAYED. She was unable to have children, time after time of trying succeeding and then miscarrying. She told the lord that if you give me a child I’ll give em back to you, then my mom was born. She was the promise barer! She held the torch, she fought through the fires and carried us on her back. I am sorry because I know a lot of us didn’t have a real example of what it looked like to be a child of God. I def didn’t live up to it at times. But this woman was THE SAME!!!! Inside and out side of church. In your face and behind your back! I wanted to repay her, and to show her how appreciative I am for her sacrifices... I pray that I stay at it and make her proud! 2020 has given so much to me yet has taken so much from me. This is Alex. She was my first girlfriend. She was my first everything. I am lucky to have had her as my first introduction of a real relationship and wish I would have expressed how much I learned from her while we were together. Even though we were in high school and she was younger than me, I always felt like she was years ahead of me. What struck me about Alex was that she was a good person who was honest and kind to other people. In a time where most people our age were doing things to impress others she never shied away from being herself and holding to her principles. She could be in a room with anyone and be poised and charming, leaving that person feeling special about themselves before the conversation was over. On our third date we went to the movies and it was right around the time that my grandfather had just passed. In the beginning of the movie “Up” the main characters fall in love and grow old together until one passes. Upon watching this I begin to sob deeply. I was so embarrassed that I could not hold back my emotions on a date with a girl I barely knew. She reached down grabbed my hand and told me it was okay. It was the sincerity of her voice and the gesture that made me believe that everything was going to be okay. She loved her Grandma dearly and would have me come over and spend time with them after school. I loved how it was important to her that I remain a gentleman at all times whether it was in front of her grandmother or just the two of us. I was an assistant on the Glee tour in 2009, and then I moved to LA in 2010 to work on set. I ran into Naya at a bar - we hadn’t seen each other in a year. I didn’t really have any friends in LA yet. She was wearing overalls and a bra. That’s it. And she was killing it. Obviously. She said, “Let’s hang out,” grabbed my phone and punched her number in. And so it began. She took me under her wing. Brought me into her crew. It didn’t matter that I was a lowly assistant at the time. When I think of my first four years in Los Angeles, I think of Naya. Being in Naya’s presence made me feel larger than life. It was like anxious Megan absorbed Naya’s fearless spirit by osmosis. When you were around her, you just . . . bloomed. Anyone in Naya’s crew had a feisty, witty, 110 pound bodyguard on their side. She always had a mischievous glimmer in her eye and she always knew more than she let on. She was the rock of her family. She had a knack for seeing through someone’s bullshit, and she knew if I was lying when I said I was okay. She also had a knack for dropping a filthy one-liner, exiting the room and leaving us with our jaws on the floor. She didn’t know how fucking beautiful she was, but I believe she knew how talented she was, and I loved that about her. Watching Naya perform everyday, whether she was on Glee set knocking out a 3 page monologue in one take, or belting Amy Winehouse in her car, or performing a lazy striptease during our talent shows - it never grew old, she always took my breath away. People grow apart, drift in and out of your life. I always figured she would drift back into mine. Naya was a force. I feel lucky to have known and loved her. Tell your people you love them. All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother August 10th my mom became the angel that she always was. For those who do not know my mom struggled with an unknown/undiagnosed neurological disease for the past two and half years and she fought like hell. My mom was always the strongest person I knew and she showed her strength and bravery more and more each day. My mom was my best friend, my gym partner, my biggest supporter, and my hero (among so much more). She made me the happiest on all of my worst days. And she’s the first person I always want to tell good news to. I’ve always felt so lucky and blessed to have a mom like her - she is one of a kind. My mom knew me better than anyone else it’s like she always knew what I was thinking. I know she will always be with me every step of the rest of my life. My mom taught me so many things in life and if there is one thing she taught me how to be strong. I will miss you every second of every day but I promise to continue making you proud. I’m beyond lucky to be your daughter because not everyone gets to have a bond like us. I can’t thank you enough for all of the things you did for me and helped me with I am forever grateful for you. For some, it might’ve seemed like a real-life episode of “The Sopranos.” In 2004, three separate dark green Kenneth Cole suitcases, containing pieces of a dismembered body, were found in and around the Chesapeake Bay, near Virginia Beach, Virginia. The body was eventually identified as 39 year-old Bill McGuire, an employee of the New Jersey Institute of Technology, who lived more than 300 miles away in Woodbridge, New Jersey. The medical examiner determined that the body had been shot multiple times. His wife, Melanie McGuire, a fertility nurse and the mother of his two sons, was eventually convicted of murdering him and dumping his body. She was sentenced to life in prison. Thirteen years have passed since Melanie McGuires conviction. She’s now a 47-year-old inmate at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility in Clinton, New Jersey, where she claims that she’s not only innocent of killing her husband but that his real killer is still out there. I am gutted to hear that this LEGEND has passed. Keith Hufnagel was an incredible human, pioneer in skateboarding, and the skateboarding industry. He started a little company you may have heard of @hufworldwide ....you probably own a pair of their weed socks. I was so fortunate to have known him. This photo was taken in 2012 the day I met Keith. At the time most people in the skate industry knew me as a model and the girl who did the naked blue shoot for The Hundreds. I was showing my brand, The Blonde Locks, for the first time at a popular trade show in NYC. Keith took me seriously as a female brand owner trying to break rules in a “boys only” industry. He inspired me, gave me advice, introduced me to whoever he could, and made me feel welcome with no expectations.....which was rare back then. Thursday thoughts. Mourning the loss of Jean Hill, a vibrant, spunky and unforgettable soul. We met during freshman year @universityofga . Her distinctive voice and powerful energy caught me by surprise. But I soon realized how special she was. Jean went on to a successful career as a news anchor in Buffalo, NY and later as a PR exec. Happy Anniversary to my one true love! When I got married at the age of 18 I think there were many who thought we were crazy! Maybe we were; but to this day, when Steve enters a room he still takes my breath away, reminds me of how joyful life can be, and makes me feel like everything is just “right” in the world. Steve makes me laugh, he makes me cry, but most of all, he makes me understand the meaning of the word “love”! In our 34 years of marriage we have been through A LOT together! It has not always been easy; in fact, a lot of it has been really hard work! But, we know that successful marriages require a high degree of patience and unselfishness. ••• 1967: The Biafran War (Nigerian Civil War) begins. 1968: Dad enlists as a Biafran soldier, confronting death across enemy lines. 1970: Biafran War ends, Dad’s family doesn’t know if he‘s alive, he stays in East Central State (now Enugu) to look for work. 1971-1973: Dad finishes high school. 1975: Dad starts work at Hotel Presidential; The Cambodian genocide begins. 1977: Dad was asked to leave new Enugu, he returns home to new IMO State; Mom is separated from her family and put in a women’s “work” camp. 1978: Dad applies for lottery to go to UK, RUSSIA, USA; Mom is doing backbreaking work in the rice fields, bearing witness to senseless killings daily. 1979: Dad wins lottery to USA, arrives in late January; Mom and four others decided to escape, trekking a five-month journey on foot to Thailand. Mom is sponsored by the Frank family, arriving to the USA in June. 1980: Dad attends school in Miami; Mom starts working three domestic jobs while attending English classes. 1983-1985: Dad moves to DC, attends graduate school at Howard University, driving cabs and working several domestic jobs to pay tuition; Mom starts a job at Denro — a communications company. 1986: Dad starts a job at Denro; They meet and share their stories of love, loss, and dreams for the future. 1987: They’re happily married.
