WHY SHOULD YOU EAT FLAXSEED MEAL AND FLOUR? During the seed crushing process, broken seed solids are presented as fat-reduced flaxseed meal. A further stage of the milling process produces a finer, more uniformly-textured flax flour. Si me preguntan ¿cómo comenzó esta historia?, o mejor dicho, cuál fue la razón, no tengo dudas que comienza en un viaje de dos años por Brasil hace 11 años atrás, abandonando una carrera de comunicación social con dos años promocionados. La razón?, un uruguayo que conocí en aquel país que vino a romper todos mis esquemas (había recorrido desde Grecia al Amazonas vendiendo joyería hecha por sus manos), y yo prácticamente no había salido de la ciudad de La Plata, nada fácil para una persona estructurada, detallista y obse como yo. Eso sin dudas me hizo mucho ruido y me embarqué en la aventura. Brasil me deslumbró, su naturaleza imponente, las personas que conocí, experiencias y aprender a “soltar”, emprender y salir de mi zona de confort. Ocho años después, nace nuestro hijo Genaro y terminó de mostrarme hacia dónde iba mi camino. Me aboqué a su cuidado y me interesé mucho por su alimentación, la gente se sorprendía al ver un bebé comer palta a cucharadas en su cochecito, mamá vegetariana, sus cumpleaños era tortas de harina de arroz, mascabo y pasas de uva, té chai y jugos naturales (seguíamos rompiendo esquemas, familiares sobre todo), nuestros “remedios” al día de hoy siempre han sido manzanilla, llantén, tomillo (no conocemos de farmacias). Como todos los que nos embarcamos en ésta búsqueda, llegó el momento de preguntarnos qué usábamos sobre la piel y así poco a poco comienza ésta historia, haciendo espacio a la disidencia, esa que todavía incomoda a muchos 💚 - @salvia_biocosmetica on Instagram

In celebration of #FARM24 we couldnt resist posting this image of the cover crops growing in one of the fields here. Lacy phacelia (Purple tansy) is used in agriculture as a cover crop and as a green manure. Planted in vineyards and alongside crop fields, it produces long, coiling clusters of nectar-rich flowers which open in sequence, giving a long flowering period. It is also a good insectary plant, attracting not only pollinators, such as honey bees, but also hoverflies, which are useful as biological pest control agents because they eat aphids and other pests. Common buckwheat is cultivated for its grain-like seeds and as a cover crop. Despite the name, buckwheat is not related to wheat, as it is not a grass. Instead, it is related to sorrel, knotweed and rhubarb. Buckwheat is also grown to improve soil quality and can be “chopped and dropped” to serve as mulch. It is gluten-free and the seeds can be ground into gluten free flour. It is said to symbolise money and protection! Crimson Clover (just out of shot) is commonly used in agriculture and planted as a nitrogen-fixing cover crop. It is a protein-rich source of forage for ruminants such as cattle and other livestock, both domestic and wild and can be made into hay. It is also often used for roadside erosion control, as well as aesthetically, however it tends to eliminate all other desirable spring and early-summer species of native vegetation in the area where it is planted. Grâce au séchage solaire pardi ! Le procédé est simple : déshydrater un aliment grâce à la chaleur du soleil. ♨️ Tout le monde peut le faire, il suffit d’un aliment et d’une bonne exposition ! Choisissez-en un, deux ou trois (les mélanges créent de belles surprises !) : légume, fruit, fleur, plante aromatique, graine… tout ou presque peut être séché ! Le temps de déshydratation dépend de la teneur en eau de l’aliment (moins il y a d’eau, plus il sera facile à sécher), de la météo, et du lieu choisi (l’air doit circuler). ❕Mais attention : évitez de les exposer directement au soleil car les UV détruisent les précieux minéraux des aliments. Un séchage à une température n’excédant pas 40°C permet même aux végétaux de conserver leur valeur nutritive initiale : ils sont consommés en « qualité crudité ». ➡️ Au-delà de 50°C, la cuisson engendre des réactions entre les molécules, cela créé des toxines qui détruisent les précieuses enzymes des végétaux. Or, les fruits séchés que l’on achète dans le commerce sont déshydratés à haute température et perdent la majeure partie de leurs qualités nutritionnelles. 👩🏽‍🍳 En cuisine le goût des aliments n’est pas dénaturé comme il peut l’être après la cuisson, la congélation ou l’appertisation (conserves). Les aliments séchés s’ajoutent directement à vos plats 🥗, se dégustent en tisanes 🍵, ou directement avec les doigts tout justes séchés 🌶🤏🏼! DRYING HERBS ☀️🌱⁣  ⁣ Most herbs produce more than we can use in a season, so drying them is a great way to use the plant most effectively. If you dry them you can benefit from their uses all year long and create wonderful salves, oils and other skincare products. ✨⁣ It‘s really easy to do at home, there are just a few things to have in mind to keep the best quality! ⁣ ⁣ 🌿 THE RIGHT TIMING: ⁣ Make sure to harvest the herbs before flowering. Usually late summer is a good time starting to dry your herbs for the upcoming colder months.⁣ Start to cut healthy branches on a cloudy day after a few rain-free days in the mid-morning. The herbs should be dry but not be in strong sunlight while harvesting.⁣ ⁣ 🌿 HARVESTING: ⁣ After cutting some healthy branches (don’t cut the whole plant) just shake them gently to remove dirt and insects. You don‘t have to wash them, because they would loose their quality and delay the drying process. ⁣ ⁣ 🌿 DRYING: There are different methods for drying herbs. A gently way is to air dry them. Take a few branches and tie them together with a string. Hang the herbs upside down in a warm, airy space (for example a dark attic) and let them dry. After 3-4 days you can check the process. If they are dry and brittle, they should be ready to be stored.⁣ ⁣ 🌿 STORING: Put the dried herbs in a labeld and dated air-tight container and store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Когда в Питере на улице то ли дождь, то ли снег, а у метро продают немножко ободранные веточки мимоз и гиацинты. My most asked about material: Lunaria 🌙 ‘famous’ for its moonlike shiny pods and excellent drying skills. On this photo the outer shells are still on. You have to peal the papery shells off to find both the seeds and the mother of pearl membranes. Or leave them on and use them as is, like I did.
