Flora & Fauna Friday At some point you have likely observed a curious growth on an oak tree, having the appearance of a spherical acorn, or other woody mass. While seemingly useless to the eye, the wooden orb is actually called an oak gall (like ball with a g), and is part of a complex life cycle of various wasp species. These growths were formed by specialized chemicals produced by the wasp, which actually induces the trees tissues to swell. Wasp eggs, and later the hatched larvae, are protected within the galls structure, feeding on its interior and eventually emerging as an adult wasp. As you might expect from the small exit holes pictured, oak gall wasps are diminutive in size, unlike their red wasp cousins. There are hundreds of these wasp species in North America, each producing a unique gall structure. Some appear as dense clusters attached to leaves, sometimes fuzzy and colorful, while others are much larger and harder, extending out of stems as pictured here. Interestingly, many galls throughout the world contain high amounts of tannic acid, which historically was extracted to make dyes and inks, often used for coloring fabrics, printed money, and writing legal or religious manuscripts. These turned out so damn delicious 🤤 Especially after a night in the fridge to firm up 💪 great lil’ snack with @planetpaleo collagen in the mix. ‘The Bounty Hunter’ Flapjack; 250g Rolled Oats 2 Bananas mashed up 🍌 (ripe AF) 2 Heaped Tbsp @planetpaleo Sports Protein (I used the banana & vanilla one) 80g Golden Syrup 130g Melted Dairy Free Butter (doesn’t have to be DF) 50g Dark Chocolate Chips Classic Bounty Bar chopped up and the pieces squished into the middle of each 1/12th (visualise cutting your squares 🤓) This is basically a ‘one bowl mix it all up together well’ kinda thing. Then into a square baking tray (line it) and bake it at 180 for about 20-25mins 🤙 Ta-Da! 🍏 Apple & Cinnamon Muffins 🍏 GF / VEGAN ➡️➡️➡️ Totally shocked me but this is my partners favourite recipe so far! (He cant get enough, and he apparently hates cinnamon!). Theyre just THAT perfect, so ill cut to the chase.. Preheat your oven to 160c or 320f Combine Wet Ingredients: 🍏 1 overripe banana mashed 🍏 1/2 a cup of coconut or almond milk 🍏 1/2 a cup of rice malt (or your fave sweetener) 🍏 1 tsp vanilla essence 🍏 juice of a lemon or 1 tbsp 🍏 1/4 cup of melted coconut oil Combine Dry Ingredient: 🍏 1.5 cups of buckwheat flour 🍏 1/2 a cup of blanched almond meal 🍏 1/4 cup of tapioca flour 🍏 1/4 cup of vanilla vegan protein (I use @tropeaka) 🍏 1 tsp baking powder 🍏 1 tsp baking soda 🍏 2 tbsp coconut sugar 🍏 2 tsp cinnamon Add the dry to the wet mix, then lastly fold through about 200-250g of apple, pretty finely diced. Due to the hot weather I prefered especially cold fresh overnightoats or smoothiebowls🙂 As you maybe know my all time favourite consists of a smashed ripe banana, 70g oats, 250ml plantbased milk and 1-2 tsp cinnamon + 1-2 tbsp peanutbutter. This time I used cashew butter. Everything mixed and cooked for 3-5 minutes. Fill your porridge in a bowl and top it. This time I topped it with half of a banana, a few raspberries, chiaseeds, cashews and other nuts, chashew butter, coconutflakes and puffed quinoa. It is very yummy and fill you for a long time 😊 Happy saturday everyone 🤗 ~~~ Heute morgen habe ich seit langen mal wieder einen warmen Porridge gegessen. Ansonsten gab es bei dem warmen wetter entweder overnightoats oder smoothies zum Frühstück. Vielleicht kennt der ein oder andere schon mein alltime favourite fürs porridge. Für die base nehme ich sehr gerne 1 reife Banane, die ich zerdrücke, füge 70g Haferflocken hinzu, etwa 250ml Haferdrink, 1-2 Teelöffel Zimt und 1-2 Esslöffel Erdnussmus. Hin und wieder auch 1 Esslöffel geschrotete Leinsamen. Das ganze vermischen und ca. 3-5 Minuten in einen Topf köcheln. Anschließend in eine Schüssel/Bowl füllen und mit beliebigem Topping garnieren. Ich habe für meine Bowl Chiasamen, 1/2 Banane, ein paar Himbeeren, Chashews und andere Nüße, Kokosflocken und gepuffte Quinoa verwendet. Ich mag es total gerne, schmeckt lecker und hält sehr lange satt😊 Jetzt geht es für mich gleich an den Schreibtisch, nachdem ich die Küche aufgräumt habe. Meine Projektarbeit ruft.... Der Klassiker: Bananenbrot 🍌🍞 Aber was gibt es für eine bessere Methode braune Bananen zu verwerten?! 🙃 Und ich, eine die im Supermarkt immer Mitleid mit Obst und Gemüse hat, welches droht im Müll zu landen, musste natürlich auch hier wieder den Retter spielen. 😅🙈 Dabei hatte ich noch schöne Bananen zu Hause liegen. 🍌 Kleiner Tipp am Rande: Bananen lassen sich super gut einfrieren. Später zum verbacken einfach auftauen lassen oder sich eine leckere Nicecream machen. 🍨🍫 Mein Bananenbrot-Rezept: 50g gemahlene Haferflocken, 30g Proteinpulver (ich hatte von @nutritionplus.de das 6K Vanille; alternativ Mehl), 100g Roggenmehl, 50g Dinkelmehl, 5g Natron, 8g Backpulver, 50g gemahlene Mandeln, 60g Birkenzucker, 30g Speisestärke, 150g zermatschte Bananen, 15ml Apfelessig, 150g geraspelte Karotte, 50g Margarine (flüssig) und 100ml pflanzliche Milch vermengen. Das Eiweiß hilft, dass uns die Muffins gut satt machen, und wir nicht eine halbe Stunde später wieder naschen wollen. Ich verspreche Euch: Nach zwei von diesen Muffins könnt ihr nicht mehr 😅 Die Ballaststoffe aus den Haferflocken helfen zusätzlich den Blutzuckerspiegel nur langsam ansteigen und abfallen zu lassen. . . Ich schreibe euch unten die Zutaten auf, allerdings ist das eher eine Inspiration, ich backe sie immer unterschiedlich. Wenn ihr einmal raus habt, wie die Konsistenz in etwa sein muss, wenn ihr den Teig in die Förmchen füllt, könnt ihr die Zutaten beliebig variieren. In dieser Form haben zwei Muffins etwa 15g Eiweiß 💪🏻 . . Zutaten: 100g Haferflocken 100g Sojaflocken 50g Hangsamen 50g Lupinen geschrotet 250g Sojajoghurt 150g Apfelmus 2 EL Ahornsirup etwas Zimt n.B. Schokolade, Rosinen, Datteln etc. . . When my copy of Cookish by @cpkimball arrived for early review I felt like it was my birthday...but actually it was Seans birthday 🤣 Im a fan of all the Milk Street cookbooks and the premise for this one is perfect for me. Six ingredients, swap/substitution suggestions, quick cook times and big flavor. So of course I had to get cooking immediately. This afternoon I made the Couscous with Chickpeas, Dates and Scallions...all ingredients are things I usually have. It comes together super fast, 20 minutes start to finish. Cleanup is minimal. This mama is happy!!! The couscous, a can of drained chickpeas, harissa paste and chopped dates go into a bowl. Pour in boiling water, cover and its cooked after 10 minutes. While that happens whisk up lemon zest and juice with evoo for a dressing. Mix in chopped scallions and garnish with toasted almonds. We ate this as a vegetarian main and I LOVED it! Use whole wheat couscous and its pretty darn healthy. Try out this homemade Maple Pecan Hummus, drizzled with a sweet Balsamic reduction and full of heart healthy fats. 😍 Maple Pecan Hummus: 1 ¼ cup dried chickpeas 1 teaspoon Baking Soda Soak the chickpeas and baking soda in water overnight, then gently simmer for 2 hours. (Or if youre short on time, you can use 2 cans of chickpeas). ½ cup Tahini paste 2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice 3 cloves Garlic 1 teaspoon Salt Water as needed After the chickpeas are tender, add them to food a processor, along with the tahini, lemon juice, garlic, salt and water, and blend for about 2 minutes. It should have an almost runny consistency but still be able to hold its shape. Scoop onto a shallow bowl, sprinkle with pumpkin, sunflower, and sesame seeds and Canadian Maple Pecans from @thenutmerchant. Then drizzle with a little extra virgin olive oil, and balsamic reduction. Now take another bowl😋 and sieve all purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and mix😉 them well by adding baking soda with very little amount of water🚰. And now take a cup of hot water♨️ and add 1 Tbsp of coffee and mix😁 it well until the powder gets dissolved✨ and add this solution😃 into that substance which was done before this step and again mix it well. In a bowl combine coconut and cocoa powered 2. Add coconut oil, maple syrup and vanilla, stir to combine. 3. Roll ‘batter’ into balls –about 1T each 4. Looking for a quick and easy, no bake snack recipe you can make with your kids!? You found one! Oatmeal Nut Butter Balls. Ingredients: - 2 cups quick-cook oats - 1/2 cup honey - 1/2 cup nut/sunflower/soy butter - 1/2 cup chocolate chips - 1 tsp. vanilla Combine all ingredients in a medium-sized bowl until well blended. Use a cookie scoop or tablespoons to roll into bite-sized balls. Place into a ziplock bag or container with a lid. Roll in between your hands to form balls. Store the Peanut butter balls in a ziplock bag or a large container with a lid. They keep in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Spent last night in Traders soaking up all the incoming Fall goodness. Chocolate, apple, pumpkin galoreeee. Gah this shift in season is making my heart so happy !! ____ OG fudgy oat bread made PUMPKIN here I’m testing out. Sneak peek recipe below for your Friday 💃🏿 ____ 1 cup GF oat flour 1/2 cup cacao powder 1/4 cup @bobsredmill GF rolled oats 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice + cinnamon 1/2 tsp. nutmeg + sea salt to taste 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 cup @georgiagrinders cashew butter (TNK20 discount code!) 1 cup pumpkin puree 1/4 cup maple syrup 1/4 cup vanilla cashew milk 1 large egg (or flax egg) 1 cup DF chocolate chunks or chips ____ 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9×11 bread pan with parchment & set aside. 2. In a small bowl mix oat flour, cacao powder, oats, spices + baking soda until well combined. 3. In a separate large bowl, whisk pumpkin, cashew butter, maple syrup and egg. 4. Slowly add in dry ingredients & mix together until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chunks & pour batter into loaf pan. 5. Bake for about 40 minutes, or until a knife comes out clean. Careful not to overbake! Today I decided to make this delicious nicecream bowl which was a mix of berry sorbet (the red part) and blue spirulina banana icecream (the blue part) Recipe: 🍒 3 frozen bananas 🍒 1/2 tbsp of blue spirulina 🍒 2 cups of frozen berries Blend the 3 frozen bananas and mix with the blue spirulina. Quelli che chiamiamo capperi in realtà sono i boccioli non ancora schiusi della pianta, mentre i frutti veri e propri sono detti cucunci e hanno forma allungata. La raccolta avviene in estate, infatti i capperi, dopo essere lavati e scolati, vanno posti ad asciugare su un canovaccio. In seguito, in un contenitore di vetro, si alternano strati di sale e capperi fino a raggiungerne la sommità. Chiudere e riporre il prezioso contenuto in luogo asciutto. This porridge was delicious, a perfect balance of sweet and salty with the crunch of the buckwheat cluster. Couldnt ask for a better salted caramel - was rich in flavour without being too sweet. Carrot Cake - Spiced carrot puree, house nut mix, pink muesli and yoghurt. This porridge was beautifully fresh while still feeling like you were eating carrot cake. The addition of the yoghurt and grated carrot cut the sweetness to balance the porridge perfectly. Head on down for a visit, these guys will be there for the next 2 Sundays (2nd & 9th July). Ist eine vegane Ernährung gesund? Ich glaube diese Frage stellt sich so ziemlich jeder, der sich überlegt vegan zu leben. Eine pflanzliche Ernährung ist nur dann gesund, wenn wir sie natürlich und vollwertig gestalten. Das bedeutet also, du kannst dich vegan ernähren, aber trotzdem nur ungesundes essen, wie Ersatzprodukte und Fertiggerichte. So eine Ernährungsweise ist mit sicherheit nicht gesund, aber vegan. Aber wie sieht dann eine gesunde vegane Ernährung aus? Das habe ich eigentlich in meinem letzten Beitrag schon ganz gut erklärt. Es ist also einfach wichtig, dass du natürliche möglichst unverarbeitete Nahrungsmittel zu dir nimmst und nicht welche, bei denen du erstmal die Zutaten im Internet nachschauen musst. Gemüse, Obst, Getreide, Hülsenfrüchte und Nüsse/ Samen sind sehr gesunde Nahrungsmittel und sollten täglich in deine Ernährung integriert werden. Diese solltest du natürlich am besten unverarbeitet genießen, so sind sie am vollwertigsten. Versuche also deine Mahlzeiten und Snacks selbst herzustellen, so weißt du einfach genau welche Zutaten deine Speisen beinhalten. Es liegt also auch hier wieder einmal an dir, wie du deine vegane Ernährung gestaltest, gesund oder eben ungesund. Wie du siehst, ist eine vegane Ernährung also weder gesund noch ungesund, du entscheidest darüber. at the beginning of quarantine i bought a 25 pound bag of organic dried chickpeas and it has been the workhorse i always dreamed of... once a week i soak about 3-4 cups for 12 hours or overnight, then i change out the water and simmer them on the stove til tender (about 2 hours- adding more water as needed.) if you forgot to soak them then you can also cook them in a dutch oven filled w water in a 350 degree oven for two hours and it works just the same. once they are cooked then add a quick glug of apple cider vinegar and enough salt to the chickpea water taste like a delicious soup. let cool and refrigerate. then you can easily drain and crisp them up in lots of olive oil and garlic, or you can blend it up w tahini and lemon juice to make hummus, or you can roast them in the oven w olive oil and salt to make crispy chickpea crunchers, or you can feed them to your baby (because babies LOVE chickpeas) #chickpeas #garbanzos #howto #quickrecipes #bulkshopping #airstream #airstreamliving - @burnhotsauce on Instagram

Masaakon 💫: Apple Cinnamon Walnut Bars to welcome in the Fall season 🍂 ⁣ I keep telling myself I’m not a baker because I don’t enjoy it as much as cooking, but when I DO bake... these bad boys happen. I highly recommend making them to pair with a morning earl grey tea, black tea or a night time chamomile! Let’s get to the recipe — ⁣ dEATS: You will need 1. 1 ½ cup of all purpose flour 2. 1 1/2 cup of oats (GF optional) 3. 1 ½ TSP of baking powder 4. A pinch of salt 5. ½ cup of almond milk 6. 1 cup of crushed walnuts 7. 2 eggs 8. Cinnamon 9. 2 TBSPs of maple syrup 10. 3 finely peeled and chopped Macintosh apples 11. 3 TSPS of vanilla extract 12. 3 TBSPS of brown sugar 13. 1 TBSP of coconut oil ⁣ 1. Preheat the oven to 350. You will want to bake on the bottom of the oven not the top. Grab a 5 by 7 pan and spray down with baking spray. Set aside. Now, grab 2 bowls. One for the dry ingredients and one for the wet ingredients. In the dry ingredient bowl add: the flour, the oats, the baking powder, salt, and brown sugar. In the wet ingredients bowl crack two eggs and whisk. Pour onto the dry bowl and mix while doing so. Now add the milk and 2 TSPS of vanilla extract and mix very well. Next, grab a pot and add 1 TBSP of coconut oil. Add in your peeled and chopped apples and mix in 2 TBSPS of maple syrup and 2-3 TBSPS of cinnamon. Mix well and allow apples to soften on medium heat. Once they are done mix in with the mix you made. In the pan you have evenly spread the mix you made. Sprinkle on ½ cup of oats on top and add your crushed walnuts. Drizzle a bit of maple syrup for taste. ~🥥Biscotti integrali cocco e cioccolato~ Ingredienti: -200 gr di farina integrale -80 gr di zucchero di canna -1 uovo -100 ml di olio di oliva -30 ml di latte di soia -60 gr di farina di cocco -40 gr di gocce di cioccolato -4 gr di lievito per dolci Procedimento: In una ciotola mescolare con una frusta elettrica luovo con lo zucchero fino ad ottenere un composto spumoso. Aggiungere il latte e mescolare. Aggiungere la farina integrale e il lievito e mescolare con le mani. Incorpore la farina di cocco e le gocce di cioccolato. Continuare a impastare con le mani fino a ottenere un panetto uniforme. Stendete la pasta su un piano infarinato e realizzare i biscotti della forma che preferite. Trasferite i biscotti su una teglia rivestita di carta da forno. My second breakfast always consists of oats or avocado toast and today I wanted to try something new so I added cauliflower to my oatmeal and it’s SUCH a game changer! The vegetable adds texture, thickness, volume and nutrients — and the best part? You can’t taste it at all. ッ . Here’s how to make it — I used frozen cauliflower {I had some pre made in the freezer. I prefer making my own over buying cauliflower rice in a bag.} . 1. Boil 1 cup of water or your favorite nut milk then add 1/2 cup of oats 2. Cook until oats start to thicken up and then add cauliflower {I added about 1 cup} 3. Cook for 2-3 minutes 4. Uma receitinha deliciosa para a programação do finde! 🤎 Barra de Chocolife Recheada com Cocada Cremosa Zero Açúcar 200g do seu Chocolife ou Loov preferido Recheio: Cocadinha cremosa 225 g de coco ralado graúdo 150 g de leite de coco em pó 300 mL de água 185 g de Snew @snew.br (nosso adoçante natural, FODMAP Friendly, que adoça não mesma proporção do açúcar) Aqueça o leite de coco com a água até ferver (aproximadamente 90° – 100°C), retire do fogo, deixe baixar a temperatura e quando a sua mistura atingir 60°C, misture o Snew. Logo em seguida, misture o coco ralado e deixe descansar por 2h para que o coco fique molhadinho e com a calda. Modo de preparo: Derreta seu chocolate em banho-maria ou no microondas, na potência 50. HOMEMADE SNICKERS BARS These were absolutely delicious, recipe down below!⬇️ Ingredients: •160g crushed digestive biscuits •6 tbsp butter/dairy free spread (melted) •210g icing sugar •3 1/2 tbsp crunchy peanut butter •200g dark chocolate (melted) •25g salted peanuts •extra 2 tbsp peanut butter (melted) to drizzle on top How to -Combine icing sugar & crushed digestives in a large bowl and then pour in the melted butter/df spread & peanut butter -Mix well and then add the mixture to a deep lined baking tray and store in fridge for 15-20 mins -Meanwhile melt the dark chocolate and roughly chop the peanuts -Once biscuit batter is ready pour the melted chocolate over and add the peanuts and melted peanut butter -Store in fridge for a further hour or so and youre good to go! - @zsty.lemons on Instagram

⭐️⭐️**Homemade Granola** ⭐️⭐️Avoid store bought sugars, and make your own with whatever you have in your pantry. The below is a rough guesstimate but you can keep it pretty fluid when throwing it all in! 1/3 cup of honey Dash of warm water 1/2 cup melted coconut oil 1/2 Cup of shaved Coconut 1/2 cup of sunflower seeds 1/2 cup of cashews / mixed nuts 1 cup of soaked buckwheat groats 1/2 cup of Chia Seeds Pinch of salt Handful of dried fruit (I love dried strawberries but raisins / apricots and all options work well) 1 Tbs Ground Ginger 1 Tbs Ground Nutmeg 1 Tbs Ground Cinamon Any flavours you like /have - cacao / pumpkin spice etc etc. Preheat the oven the about 100’C. Mix together everything (except the dried fruit) in a bowl until everything is mixed and coated in some Of the coconut oil. Spread the granola mix onto trays lined with baby paper and then bake. Give it a shake every now and again, so it all gets golden and crunchy then take it out once it’s all cooked and clumped. Once cooled, transfer to a jar and mix in the dried fruit for sweetness. Yield: 8-10 Granola Bars Ingredients:🍌 1.5 cups mashed ripe bananas (about 3 large) 1 tsp vanilla extract 2 cups large flake oats 1/3 cup chopped pecans 1/3 cup slivered almonds 1/3 cup chopped walnuts 1/3 cup shredded unsweetened coconut 1/3 cup pumpkin seeds 1/4 cup hemp hearts 1/3 cup dark chocolate chips 1/3 cup chopped dates 1/3 cup dried cranberries 1 tsp cinnamon Directions:🍌 1. Preheat oven to 350 F and grease a baking pan with vegetable oil. 2. Pulse oats in a food processor until coarsely chopped. 3. In a large bowl, mix mashed banana with vanilla. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. 4. Press mixture evenly into greased pan and bake for 25 Mins or until golden brown. 5. Allow to cool fully before cutting into 8-10 bars. Wrap individually and store in the fridge or freezer. Enjoy! Diesen Kuchen habe ich eigentlich mehr aus Zufall gemacht😊. Meine Mutter hatte nicht veganen Zwetschgenkuchen gebacken und mir netterweise noch drei Zwetschgen übrig gelassen😅😂. Für Hefeteig war’s dann aber zu spät, deshalb wurde es ein Vanille- Kokos Rührteig mit Haferflockencrumble🥥. Super lecker und ohne Öl (~Nussmus) und Industriezucker (~Reissirup)🧁 . . Zwetschgenkuchen🧁🥥 (Vegan) . ⏩ 20 g Kokosmehl, 20 g Mehl, 10 g Haferflocken, 2 TL Puddingpulver, 1 TL Leinsamen, 1 TL Backpulver und 1 Prise Vanillepulver vermischen ⏩ 90 ml Vanillemilch (zB.Mandel- Vanille), 2 TL Apfelmus, 1 TL Reissirup, 1 TL Apfelessig und 1 geh. Porridge for breakfast 🌱 What makes porridge a great breakfast? Here are some nutritional facts I put together; - Oats are a good source of quality protein - 100g contains 16.9g of protein. - Oats contain more soluble fibre than other grains, leading to slower digestion, increased fullness, and appetite suppression. - Oat beta-glucans are known to lower cholesterol levels, reduce blood sugar and insulin levels after a carb-rich meal - Oats are high in many vitamins and minerals including manganese (support metabolism), phosphorus (bone health), copper (antioxidant), b1, iron, magnesium & zinc. - oats are rich in antioxidants which reduces inflammation and regulate blood sugar. Avenathramides (a type of antioxidant) are only found in oats. - largely gluten-free for those with gluten sensitivity and celiacs. Toppings: banana, grated dark chocolate, smooth peanut butter, mixed seeds, chia seeds pistachios and walnuts.
