And was it challenging to make different scenarios and photograph yourself? Felix -I did. I’ve practiced photography ‘since I was born.’ My main subjects are non-humans, landscapes, nature mortes, architecture, so it was challenging to try fashion type photography. I enjoyed it. Replica - Was it interesting to do something which you were more in control of visually? Let’s say that in a normal fashion shoot, I am a player, and here I was, the writer too. What is really interesting with Saint Laurent men’s clothes is that you can really go thru a lot of different male/masculinity visuals; lots of different scenarios can come from it. I like to play with standards of masculinity to show a wider view on the male body/stereotypes. Replica -Some of the images look like they are inspired from Fassbinder’s masterpiece - ‘Querelle’, based on Jean Genet’s novel, with Actor Brad Davis. Is this film an inspiration for you? And maybe even some of your work? Felix - Of course, the whole works of Genet, and Fassbinder too, are a great inspiration to me; the way they are showing male sensibility is precious and rare in society these days, sensibility that’s the word. For this issue, I wrote about singer and multi-instrumentalist @taminoamir and his ability to bring together a diverse, multicultural and transgenerational audience with his songwriting that bears both the innocence of a coming-of-age story and the maturity of perfectly chiseled, generous musical compositions. 💕 . . A month later, for the February issue of @voguearabia, Désirée Sadek told me her life story. The Lebanese publisher, journalist and environmentalist explained what it means to launch a media from scratch as a woman, and reflected on her true environmental calling among the Lebanese cedars. . . And last but not least, I wrote a feature for the April issue of @voguearabiaman that shines a light on the importance of supporting regional designers, especially some of the most revolutionary Middle Eastern brands that draw inspiration from their cultural heritage and contemporary urban aesthetics. There, in the shadow of the historic Hotel Theresa—once known as the Waldorf of Harlem—eight local artists came together this summer to transform the movement’s now-iconic 16 letters into a grandly meaningful artwork nearly two blocks long. The mural’s design is as precise as it is powerful. “Each of the letters is perfectly aligned and stands exactly 21 feet tall,” explains artist and curator LeRone Wilson, who worked with Harlem Park to Park and Got to Stop on the project. “It was crucial that nothing felt uneven or out of place.” Much of that exactness is thanks to Rockwell Group, which lent its urban planning and architecture expertise to the mural’s initial, stenciled text—laid down with the help of United Scenic Artists Local USA 829 union. Once each letter’s outline and base coat was in place, the artists added their own distinctive marks to salute the struggle for racial and social justice both in Harlem and across the globe. “The mural has already become a place of healing,” said Wilson, whose L in the word Black features the names of 24 victims of police brutality. “Amadou Diallo’s mother called me crying after seeing his.
