Been late to update (been waiting till the right time to protect our brave allies). This is from 4th of July (but in the works since even earlier—back in March)! a couple months ago, our networks of nurses and doctors were being walked out in handcuffs for passing out PPE so we had to start an underground bottom-top network (the real roots of PPEforHCP) of free donations that even included the US Veterans Affairs. A few of us on OSCMS spun off a Signals group to design (medical) protective equipment for peaceful protesters (inspired by Hong Kong) as soon as June 1; this was to keep our community healthy/reduce hospital resource impacting (on the bigger scope/support freedom, liberty, and justice). We couldn’t do it without your support, the support of a few brave individuals going against the grain (sacrificing the REAL threat of getting fired for not “staying in their lane” or often worse) in US Customs, UPS, SJPD, hospitals, FEMA, fire department, Hong Kong/mainlanders, etc. Advocates for health and good doctors/nurses and frontlines come from all sides. Mit ca. 4/5 Jahren bin ich das erste mal aktiv mit Rassismus in Kontakt gekommen. Es hat mich damals genauso getroffen wie heute und war genauso unbegreiflich. Doch da ich zu dem Zeitpunkt noch nicht so viel über diese Welt wusste bin ich davon ausgegangen dass sich dieses Problem irgendwann von alleine löst. Ich hatte/habe so viele Freunde aus allen möglichen Teilen der Welt und konnte mir einfach nicht vorstellen dass wir uns wenn wir mal erwachsen sind Aufgrund unserer Herkunft ernsthaft diskriminieren. Naja, man wird erwachsen... Mittlerweile leben wir in einer Welt in der sowas wie die Geschichte in dem Video gestern, in ein paar Wochen leider schon wieder vergessen wird. Wer denkt das im Jahr 2020 Rassismus kein Thema mehr ist lebt in einer Blase oder ist noch nie ernsthaft damit in Kontakt gekommen. Ich bin grade in einem Alter in dem viele meiner Freunde Kinder haben die bald in das selbe Alter kommen das ich damals hatte und die Vorstellung dass sie in 20/25 Jahren die selbe traurige Erkenntnis haben, weil immer noch Menschen sterben müssen weil Sie anders aussehen, macht mich unfassbar traurig und wütend... Sept 10, 2018 will always be a day I’ll never forget. As we were leaving our studio, four guys decided they wanted to try and rob us and when we went to get in our car to get away from them, they fired 8 gunshots as they ran away. Two bullets barely missed our heads and went through our neighboring company’s entire van, two barely missed my leg and went through the bottom of my car, ricocheted off the ground and went through the entire back of @sydneycummings_ ankle, shattering her calcaneus, as she jumped in my car. In less than the blink of an eye, I almost lost my best friend and my fiancé. I’ll always miss the blissful ignorance we had before that night. I was so inspired over that next year to watch as Syd literally gave zero excuses and worked out with a hole the size of a golf ball in her foot every day. From December 2018 through July 2019, before and after every single daily workout, we had to pack the open hole in her foot with medicated gauze and ruined hundreds of socks due to all of the blood and fluids that she lost during working out. I saw some comments come through saying “this workout is too easy”, “she looks out of shape”, etc. and instead of Syd getting upset, in typical Sydney fashion, Syd’s words were always, it’s not my job to feed into negativity, it’s my job to motivate and show people anything is possible. This is the first picture we’ve ever shown of part of her wound, but this is what was hidden behind her sock during workouts. Not to mention, she had another hole on the outside of her foot that the bullet came out of. I don’t know how I got so lucky to deserve this gift of her, but I’m beyond grateful. To think that out of two and a half years the only days she has taken off were the ones that she got shot and was recovering are beyond inspiring. Syd, I knew from the moment I saw you on camera years ago that I had to figure out how to get your positivity, knowledge, and heart to the world and I just want to say you have never proven that thought more right than the way you carry yourself every single day. As he gets older, he gains a new sociological perspective and eagerly shares with me how he, sees the world differently.” He is surprisingly conscious about the daily challenges some people face just to survive. I can recall a time just before the Pandemic, back in March, we met a sweet woman outside of the Barnes & Noble in San Mateo. She was homeless, so Isaiah kindly asked her if he could get her breakfast. She was apprehensive at first, but Isaiah was able to convince her to allow him to treat her to breakfast. After the lady let Isaiah know what he wanted, he hurried inside to the cafe to place her order (& included a hot chocolate for himself😊) She was so grateful for his sweet gesture and as she began to eat, she noticed the book Isaiah had in his hand. She asked him what the book was about. Turns out she was a book worm herself. One conversation led to another; they exchanged reviews about books; they offered each other book recommendations; and they both were pleasantly surprised to discover their mutual passion for Astronomy. Whenever we go to that Barnes & Nobles, Isaiah established a routine to look for her and treat her to coffee, pastry & a conversation — to name a few things, must read books📚, life updates🌅, colors of the recent moons 🌕🌖🌗🌑 Isaiah effortlessly disregards her social - economic status, gender, and age. He sees her for the person that she is. Isaiah has taught me many lessons at his very young age of 12, but the most important lesson Ive learned from him is that you are never too young (or too old) to help people and constantly reminds me that giving back doesnt have to entail a monetary donation; you can give your free time to those that need your help; you can have a heart felt conversation with those who feel discarded. What a week, everyday you never know what to expect at work.
