After what’s seemed like the absolute longest week ever, I’m thankful to have made it to Friday! R u okay?? Just three simple words to ask anyone around you. Please do! Always ask! Not everyone will answer truthfully but hopefully that one person will open up and it can save there life. Loosing my mum at a very young age to suicide I know a lot of the questions the family members have when loosing someone to suicide. As to why and what goes on in there mind? And why could they do that. And why is it such a taboo to talk about. I have come to terms with it. Suicide is an illness just like any illness you can die from it. With the right treatment and if you can catch it early enough someone could and I say could because not every case is the same that person can be saved like any other illness. THIS IS NO PANTOMIME is an urgent wake-up call. It’s about theatre and the communities it entertains. It’s about cancellation and closures. Without our government providing ongoing sector-specific support, we are witnessing the collapse of our world-leading culture industry. Built up over centuries, killed off in a matter of months. / Despite the government’s announcement that theatres can now re-open, indoor productions and live performances are just not financially viable whilst social distancing is in place. With Christmas on the horizon, and the majority of pantomimes also now cancelled, theatres will be falling desperately short of the revenue required to see them through 2021, and will soon be left facing even more redundancies and closures. / The impact on the 200 000 self-employed theatre workers is even more devastating: 33% have received no government support at all since lockdown began in March, and there are few prospects for work for the remainder of this year and long into 2021. Many of those doing the hundreds of jobs on our poster are leaving the industry right now, and these skills will take years to rebuild. / 34 million theatre tickets were sold in 2018. Around 3 million of those tickets were for a pantomime. It is too late for this year’s Dames and Sleeping Beauties. You won’t have to wear it whilst at your table, just when you arrive and depart and if you need the loo! We have to be strict on this so if you aren’t willing to wear a mask we won’t be able to serve you *unless you are exempt. . We also need to ensure that everyone has left the restaurant by 10pm, so we will be getting in touch if you have a table booked past 8:15pm and will endeavour to offer you an earlier slot. We will have to bring your bill to the table at 9:45pm to allow everyone enough time to pay and leave before the curfew and appreciate your understanding on this. . We are all brothers and sisters. We are all one people. I grew up with strong racism in my family. From a very young age I would hear the nasty comments and remarks. From a young age I new it was wrong. I’ve been called names, teased, judged and made fun of because of my race. That doesn’t even come close to the abuse that our Black community has suffered. I can’t even pretend to say that I can relate. The oppression of Black people needs to end. Yesterday. Too many have died unjustly so. The death of George Floyd will not go in vain. As part of iheART Main Street Art Challenge, Downtown Yonge BIA commissioned sidewalk decals to support wayfinding in the area from @thepatchproject artists @ves.illustration and @jennkitagawa! Vesna’s inspiration comes from the scenery and activity this bustling square has to offer for locals and tourists alike. You can shop at the mall or watch a movie at the theatre; grab lunch at any of the delicious restaurants nearby, or visit a museum like @agotoronto and @textilemuseumofcanada! Jenn’s artwork is a reflection of the diverse Downtown Yonge community. Community members stroll through downtown Toronto happily supporting local businesses. The scenes feature beautiful flowers, a hot coffee, comic books, a camera, and fresh fruit, all from local businesses in the Downtown Yonge area. The playful composition encourages passersby to experience the work from many angles. With the support of RBC Royal Bank @rbc, we were able to bring 42 activations to life in collaboration with 25 local creatives and 11 BIAs. Spellings - Day 1 Now Sophie is in Year 1 she has started to get spelling homework. She had a go at writing her spellings in a little notebook this morning. I made a note of the ones she already knew and the ones she needed to practise. I set up this magic word activity for after school. I chose 4 of her spellings and wrote them along the top of the page. Then I wrote them on the page in white wax crayon. She painted over the paper using water colour paint to reveal the words. I got her to guess which word she had found by looking at the letters as they were revealed. She knew she had found time and not they because it started with ti not th. This is a good way to introduce the spellings because they start to look closely at the letters in the word. Once she found them all she had a go at writing each word using the paint. She really enjoyed doing this and even made some for Benji to do. I set up the same activity for Benji but his shapes on his page so that he could join in with us. - @miniwritersclub on Instagram

Our wedding industry is predominantly white, straight, thin and conservative. From representation featured on mainstream wedding blogs you can see just the tip of the iceberg of racism and homophobia in our industry. Since I first began working in the wedding world, I have made it my goal to do my part to diversify it and create content that always features LGBTQ and BIPOC people. I have seen these shoots featuring diverse couples rejected by the mainstream blogs over and over again because they are “just not a good match.” We know exactly what they mean by that. They mean the couples are not straight or white enough. As a queer Latinx person I have often felt pressure to downplay my identity because it didn’t fit into the rigid heteronormative whiteness of the wedding world. This has been my experience as a straight-passing and white-passing person in the wedding industry. I cannot even imagine what my black and non-passing POC/LGBTQ friends and colleagues experience. I want to challenge our industry to do better. I want to challenge our world to do better. Hire BIPOC vendors. Cater to BIPOC clients. Listen to BIPOC voices. Feature BIPOC couples. ⚫️ut N⬛️W 🖤: ABC Maxi is a heavily-engineered yet warm and witty type system of spaghetti movements and angular lines. Its familiar shapes, informed by the long history of the International Style, can be newly exaggerated and emboldened by way of variable font technology. With an underlying skeleton referencing mid-century and post-modern Swiss designs—including Josef Müller-Brockmann’s CWS word mark (1958) and Marlyse Schmid and Bernard Müller Swatch logo (1981)—Maxi’s forms can by altered and animated by the user, stretching from Hairline to Black to everything in-between. While designing the font, we were interested in how subtle manipulations in shape could affect the tone of the overall typeface. To explore this further, we created two stylistic variations for emphasis, rather than a standard Italics. Four subfamilies of the font are therefore available: Round, Round Mono, Sharp, and Sharp Mono. ABCs Sharp and Round subfamilies have a basic monolinear, rational, and geometric style, gesturing to 1920s experiments in “universal typography” by Herbert Bayer and Jan Tschichold. The Sharp families melds transitions into solid, boxy joints—a futuristic look, some might say, that creates subtle tensions in longer texts. ABC Maxis Round subfamilies go a step further: Inspired by Max Bill’s 1960s theories of legibility—in particular, the notion that emphasizing vowels eases readability—the font’s own vowels and diagonal shapes are rendered disproportionately bold and blocky. The first iteration of Maxi emerged through digitizing Bill’s own experiment in 2016, and we used the initial design for our Dinamo logo and our special packaging tape. The following year, we combined this skeleton with ABC Favorit lowercase letters for the opening titles of @jojikoyama’s film KURO (2017). ABC Maxi evolved further in 2018 in collaboration with our intern Risto Kujanpää; its latest iterations have found themselves on posters by common-interest and as the headline typeface in @studio.ard’s design for London’s #TateETC magazine. 💜 #Repost @mumologist • • • • • • Weirdly I don’t think we had a single lecture on working with couples when I trained as a clinical psychologist. We talked a lot about families, and parents- but that foundational relationship of a couple was so rarely discussed. Yet when we become parents for the first time our couple relationship comes under the most tremendous amount of pressure. If you scroll down my page you’ll see a graph on marital satisfaction after children which is both shocking and reassuring if you’re in the thick of it! So how can we survive? One of the real difficulties for many couples is that parenthood - starting even before conceiving- can be a stark lesson in the differences that were hidden before. Differences in biology, your different experiences of pregnancy and birth, social messages, history, family background and values. Things that used to be adorable become intolerable. Differences bring resentment. And throw a lot of sleep deprivation in too and it’s easy to walk around feeling full of anger and wondering who this person is and why you thought it was a good idea to have a child together? Those early years of parenting can be just about survival- and how you can get through the worst of it together so you can enjoy the easier times. Yet we so often don’t have a model for this. We of course can’t remember our own parents or caregivers raising us as babies, and often these are the bits missing from the fairytales. No one read you a story that ended in the prince and princess (or prince & prince/ princess & princess!) trying to figure out who would be the one to do the night feeds. It means we don’t ask the questions before we become parents- again because we have the expectation that it’ll just all work itself out.
