My bronze artwork, which I renamed āLove in a Time of Coronaā back in March during Melbourneās first lockdown, is presented by Gallerysmith in this yearās online version of Sydney Contemporary. From October 1. Polished raw bronze gas masks with satin black patina. It stands 1 meter high and is based on a small porcelain dancing couple with vintage Action Man gas masks. I made this series in collaboration with the wonderful Urban Art Projects. Itās my Artist Proof, and is part of an edition of three titled āLove is a Battlefieldā Edition 1 is part of a private collection in Turkey, edition 2 is part of a private collection here in Melbourne and edition 3 was purchased by Warrnambool Art Gallery. āAlla scoperta del Museoā Ā Oggi vi mostriamo alcuni reperti rinvenuti nellāarea sacra del sito archeologico di Sa Carcaredda, che si trova nel territorio di Villagrande Strisaili (NU).Ā Si tratta di tre figure in bronzo rappresentanti un arciere e due offerenti, che dovevano costituire doni votivi posti nel tempio e poi conservati allāinterno di un ripostiglio, dove vennero rinvenuti durante gli scavi archeologici.Ā La prima figura, lāarciere, tiene lāarco posato sulla spalla sinistra e ha il braccio destro proteso in avanti in segno di saluto. Ha gli occhi āa globettoā e i capelli, resi con un tratteggio, che arrivano al collo. Porta un elmo dotato di corna e un gonnellino, sulle spalle si nota la faretra con frecce e pugnale e le ginocchia sono protette da schinieri.Ā Lāofferente maschile, mutilo di un avambraccio, ĆØ raffigurato stante con braccia protese in avanti. Ha occhi incavati e sopracciglia arcuate. Sul capo porta un copricapo, da cui fuoriescono i capelli, il collo ĆØ avvolto da una goliera e indossa una doppia tunica corta, sul petto pende una cintura coperta da una stola appoggiata sulla spalla sinistra.Ā La figurina di offerente femminile invece tiene sulla mano sinistra una ciotola decorata. Ross Campbell says he enjoys when people are puzzled by his work. With an intricate process for replicating the wings of real life beetles in clay, its no wonder that confusion over whether parts are real or crafted can add to the excitement. ā ā I work with clay because the instructions are easy. I simply like bugs for their looks and enjoy making them. The wings are made of very thin clay. I use a photo of a real insect wing, enlarge it to the size I need, and print a rubber stamp that I use to print a clay wing. They look like real bug wings. The clay insects are simplified, the wings not. A plastic insect like those found in natural history museums are so authentic that they look fake, like a toy.
