As I was leaving the shop today, I looked back at our space, the one we dreamed of for four years, the one we literally poured blood sweat and tears into, and was overcome with gratitude in that moment. The building was full as I left. Our evening hours are back and it was so fun to see people meeting up with the girls, having date night and having family dinners. 🍻 ANNOUNCEMENT 🍻 I am super excited to announce that I will be a Content Creator for @disgruntledbrewing moving forward! After stopping by the taproom this past weekend on our way to Fargo-Moorhead and meeting brewers @disgruntledcyrus and @disgruntledkris, it was a no-brainer to accept once the opportunity was offered! For those who know me, I pride myself in being honest in what I post and share on Instagram. I wouldn’t be doing such a thing if I was not already a fan of Disgruntled beforehand. I would seek out their crowlers as they made it to the cities and have enjoyed many of the beers I have tried. I respect the fact that for being located in the small town of Perham, they are pushing the envelope with the beers they are brewing. I’ve been to 116 breweries in Minnesota and it’s not very common to walk into a taproom outside of the cities and see one or two sours, much less have a half dozen of them to choose from. Cyrus and Kris pride themselves in making great beer and they are not afraid to experiment in the process. There won’t be much that is changing in terms of what my account is about. I’ll still be visiting breweries and drinking craft beer from all over the place, but you’ll just be seeing more Disgruntled related content on my feed. My happy place for sure but somehow, it’s not the same when it’s just me, myself and I. Believe me I know how fortunate and privileged I am to have this space, but also must admit that my passion is sharing it with all those I love and rally for... Since March, I have been living out one of my greatest fears in life, living alone for long stretches of time. (Several years before my mother was killed, that fear was real and for whatever reason embedded in my childhood), but during my adult life, I lived with friends or partners. For the last six years, I have been living alone. And during COVID the silence, at times, can be deafening. But, I’m still here in one piece and continuing with one foot forward each day (not to mention the often five steps that so many of us are experiencing). Found a treasure trove of tour pics from 6-7 years ago. Been riding the river with these dudes for what seems like a lifetime now. The other day we were in Brooklyn at the Albany Houses again feeding over 65 families. This was a small project when it started out we raised some funds for the elderly and those raising children affected by the city wide shut down. As this program expanded I got in touch with @da_circle & @poisonpenbk to help me on occasion. Now I have been informed that we were contacted by several other projects and we will be coming through there in a few. I don’t want to jeopardize anyone so I won’t mention names but one of these public housing offices said that NYC has cut their food program so they’re relying on us. As with everything what we do is not just to service the community. It’s also in the hopes of inspiring other people to do the same in their communities. As you can see working in a senior center we want to protect the elders and ensure that they’re not forgotten. DeBlasio’s lack of clear leadership on the public housing system is something I could go off on right now. But we are solution orientated when attacking these problems. We have to step up. So far the program has fed over 675 families and it has been my honor to serve the community. This Monday we will be back in Harlem at Grant houses. Thank you to everyone who participated in helping. Most of the residents are elderly Black and Latin American immigrants. Poor white peoples live in the projects too though, I’ve seen Asian people in line. NO ONE will be turned away until we have given everything we have. We go through the Senior center but you don’t need a card to receive a 2 week food pack. Many of these seniors also have had their benefits cut. Some are veterans, all are survivors of a much tougher New York than I ever grew up in. Today would have been my moving day for Movement weekend. I would have my bag packed and probably freaking out about things I forgot (or thought I forgot). I’d be getting ready to set up media check-in, fielding endless requests and questions, and working with our social media, photo and video teams to capture every possible moment of the weekend. It’s pretty surreal that I won’t be doing any of that today or this weekend. I’m missing the anticipation before gates open on the first day, seeing friends and industry colleagues that we work with year-round, and doing my daily walk through the Plaza to check out the performers and watch attendees immersed in pure bliss, dancing and having the time of their lives - this is by far my favorite part of the weekend and it never gets old. Most of all, I’m missing being on-site with the team and our extended crew. It goes without saying that they are some of the best people in the world and hardest working individuals I’ve ever met.
