It is something to be a free black woman in America; a woman with her own thoughts and resources and command of her life and time. And it is funny now, looking back, that it didn’t take a lot of years in the execution but preparation; the planning, the re-tooling, the re-imagining, that took lifetimes inside of this lifetime. It took finally telling the truth about what happiness looked like; even when all I knew was that it didn’t look like what I was doing or being. The kind of free I am now comes from entering into a sweet darkness where I understood that everything - anything - was possible because I finally understood that it was all me; all potential, all power and all I had to do was choose fully what was in line with the present version of me. I had to listen to the instruction that bellowed from my center and then lean into that thing until it Became...until I Became. That is was this life is, what you see; a woman willing to lean into the darkness and magic of Gods great universe and let things and people and myself Be. 🤍 It has been a ROUGH week...I’d love to be dressed up looking like the first photo but the reality is the second 😂 (SWIPE to see me doing my favourite thing in hospital - permanent mood lol) 🤍 From calling the ambulance out to multiple blood tests to the struggles of getting an IV line in to the constant trial & error of pain meds to insomnia and last but not least, PAIN - I am tired. 🤍 Every time a crisis comes it just knocks me back completely, I feel like everything I was making progress with in life has been pushed back to square one. It’s a harsh reality. It’s not easy to consistently get hit in this way - I am tired. 🤍 One thing I know, is that I will always get up. It may take me a few days, a few weeks or a few months even but I will get up and continue fighting to live a full and purposeful life because it is worth it. 🤍 Here’s to a weekend of me trying to get my energy back, becoming stronger, & not being breathless after walking up the stairs 😅 Oh and of course watching Netflix with my cup of hot sarsaparilla ☺️ 🤍 It’s Sickle Cell Awareness month (you will hear me talk about this a lot over the next few weeks ☺️) Awareness is so needed and I will always do my best to talk about the effects of living with this condition ♥️ - @trustmytears on Instagram

Happy #WorldAfroDay! I may not have an Afro anymore but my hair journey is a real emotional one for me and I’ve learnt to love Black hair, MY HAIR! I remember my mum telling me when I was young I asked if I could be white so I could have long hair 💔 I was made fun of for my hair styles and told my hair was nappy, I was always compared to my cousins with long hair. In my early 20s I tried every extension and weave style to not have to show my own hair. I wouldn’t leave the house without my hair done, only to go to the hairdressers. If my appointment was cancelled I would stay home until it was rescheduled and that could be days 🙄 smh. But I finally decided to to get my hair cut by the one and only @vicksenstyles in 2017 and it was the first time I felt like I had found MY LOOK for my hair. I know not everyone likes relaxers but it’s helped me love my hair, I treat it better. the growth has improved... it’s all a journey.
