#throwbackthursday to this cozy hotel library in York, where I stayed exactly 1 year ago because just-released DUKE had been shortlisted for the British Romance Novel of the Year Award. Fun Fact: my mum (= trusty travel buddy) and I arrived before the room was ready, but we had to get ready for the ceremony. So they kindly locked the library and we changed and did hair & make-up between the bookshelves 🤪 🌟So much has happened since that day: DUKE became a bestseller, I published a second book, finished a third, started a fourth, and signed a contract for 2 more books with Berkley. Im also planning a novella or two (Lucie & Tristan romping their way across Italy, anyone?) There were other plans, professional and personal, but a global pandemic happened and brought much to a screeching halt, which alas is probably the case for all of us. STOP TRYING TO SHORTCUT THE SYSTEM AND/OR GAME THE APP! Hey guys sorry for the caps lock but its time to discuss a topic that we see a lot with the app. Thats people who are impatient and instead of letting the app do its thing, they try to game it and finagle it into giving them the macros they want. Look, I get it. If youve tracked macros for any period of time you probably have a decent idea of what your macros might look like for fat loss or muscle building, etc. Sometimes, the app may give people a different result than what they thought they might get... but isnt that why you bought the app in the first place? To coach you? Regardless, the initial calculation of the macros is only ~1% of the value of the app. You can find macro calculators for free and they are a dime a dozen. Wed like to think ours is better, but any macro calculator is simply going to be taking a shot in the dark to a certain extent based on the data you enter. As much as wed like to imbue the app with a crystal ball that can know EXACTLY what you should be taking in, thats just not realistic. The app, like any COACH is going to take TIME to get to know your metabolism and how you respond. STOP TRYING TO SHORTCUT THE PROCESS! Give the app time to see how you respond to the initial macros, even if it gets it completely wrong during the signup phase, it will only take a few weeks of COMPLIANT check-ins to get you dialed in. Lets say the app calculated your macros way too low (or at least you think it did). If you hit those macros, you will end up losing more weight than the app predicted and it will increase your calories. If the app calculates you too high, then you will gain more weight or not lose as much weight (depending on your goal) than the app predicted and the app will respond by adjusting your calories down. This only takes a few weeks for the app to really dial it in. But instead of doing that, people fiddle around with multiple goals, sign-ups, and macro calculations trying to get what they want. I’m reading news incessantly, obsessing at times, but want to shift some of my energy towards spreading positivity be it through sharing a recipe, a memory or a good pair of shoes. I don’t post much on IG. I rarely if ever post a pic of myself. But hell, this is the community we have right now. In the past few weeks I have been in touch with many people who are struggling with their businesses. I don’t know when I will work again. We are all in this together. Getting dressed in the morning has made a big difference to how I feel during the day. And as silly as that may sound, even though I spend my day cooking, cleaning, homeschooling and acting as an executive assistant to my 6 year old, it helps get me through my day. So here I go. {Silenced Masterpiece} Poem in caption When I cant write, I write about that. Blending colors of letters like paint, Im a masterpiece that needs to create. Blurred lines and edges, that I cant seem to place. As the spilled ink dries, Im forgetting its taste. Encased vexation; a rope around the waist. Wrenching me backwards, watching the lines erase. Facing blank pages, with no colors to stain, Like wild children asking for the words to come out and play. Tapping a nail against the glass in my head, but the thoughts stay silent, just listening instead. The mouth on my brain has been shut and stitched, my words trapped behind the hush on its lips. Dripping inside my bones and boring flesh, lay dormant the colors, I seek to mesh. A muffled voice lingers between the threads, and dead cold fingers are being forced to bed. Silent cries hidden in the hollow of my eyes, planted behind sight and imprisoned inside mind. Declined access to express the darkness and light, night after night burying my imagination alive. Creative sighs and anxious screams; diminishing inspiration and dwindling dreams. Fleeing words that escape through teeth, Breaching my lips, then pressing delete. Concreted feet; I sink alone, Ripping the script as Im stripped to the bone. ANNIVERSARY 🎉Hi 🥰 how are you? I’ve missed you! Yes, I’ve taken a social media break for the last few weeks to take care of me. I’ll fill you in here shortly.☝️ But first, I wanted to celebrate my one year “no chemical hair die” celebration 🎉 with you. 🎊 I am an Autoimmune Warrior afterall😘 It was one year ago today, September 19, 2019 that I last colored my hair to make sure I had no grays showing for “The Dr. Gundry Podcast” @drstevengundry. 🥳💜 . . At that point of PP, I healed my painful esophageal erosion, extreme mucus, distended abdomen, a raw throat, cystic acne, chronic migraines, hair loss, helped lessen the FM, eliminated depression & anxiety AND stabilized my TSH and lowered my TPO to 1! I still wasn’t perfect though. As I had discussed with Dr. G, I still struggled with muscle recovery and leg and muscle pain. Finally, I recently found out why. The RMSF (Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever) I contracted 23 years ago was at an active level again. My muscles have been very painful and tight. Long story short, it’s been hard for me. Just like a Lymes patient, we struggle with muscle pain. I’ve been in physical therapy 3 days a week for several weeks to stretch and strengthen the muscles with tender and painful knots & trigger points. I have yet to take the prescription of #doxycycline sitting on my bathroom sink. I know I have to though. Hold my hand as I open the bottle on Monday. I’m already feeling the pain of the gut side effects of the doxy. It might be a necessary evil though. 😑In the year since, I’ve added more animal protein than the 20 grams I was eating since my MRI revealed degenerative issues in the C-Spine & back. Physical therapy and additional animal protein is already helping my condition immensely. I know that I have to have an hour minimum of stretch a day to my routine. Strengthening as well. I’ve also added dance 💃 and I’m having the time of my life! It makes me happy and doesn’t stress my muscles too much. Still makes me sweat 😓 all the while laughing & helping with my memory.
