💜 September is Craniosynostosis Awareness Month! Join us in turning social media purple! 💜 . Huey was diagnosed with sagittal craniosynostosis shortly after birth & when he was a few days shy of 6 months old, he underwent a nearly 8-hour-long surgery called Cranial Vault Reconstruction at @mottchildren to help reshape his skull & give his brain room to grow. You can learn more about his cranio journey by visiting my Cranio highlight 💜 . Craniosynostosis occurs when the sutures that connect the bony plates in an infant’s skull close prematurely, resulting in problems with normal brain & skull growth. Surgery is the main treatment in effort to make sure a child’s brain has enough room to grow & to prevent a buildup of pressure on the brain. As surgery typically occurs early in the first year (~6 months of age on average), early diagnosis is critical. However, many medical professionals know very little - to nothing at all - about craniosynostosis which can lead to a misdiagnosis/no diagnosis at all until a child begins to suffer from serious, sometimes irreversible health consequences, that were often preventable. . La infancia es mágica. 🌿 Hoy en stories os contaba qué tipos de sesiones hacemos, ya que el miércoles pasado recibí una pregunta repetida sobre esta cuestión. La respuesta es: No, no sólo hacemos bodas. Trabajar con personitas pequeñas que juegan mientras haces fotos, que se imaginan los mismos mundos que tú les describes, es un regalo de la vida. 🌿 Como las bodas dan tanto trabajo, no puedo hacer tantas sesiones familiares o infantiles como me gustaría. El lugar donde más disfruto hacerlas es Soria, porque la gente, al conocerme, me trata con muchísimo cariño. Porque la provincia está tan llena de tesoros, que tardas 30 minutos en llegar a un bosque encantado y 10 en alcanzar un campo de trigo como el de esta primera foto. 🌿 El motivo por el cual sólo hago 10 sesiones al año en Soria es porque ahora mismo vivo en Buenos Aires y sólo paso unas dos o tres semanas en mi tierra. Suele ser en el mes de julio, y sólo hago una sesión por día, para usar la luz del atardecer, que es la más bonita. 🌿 No me gustan las prisas, soy muy perfeccionista, y también valoro mucho que os dejéis guiar. Que no caigamos en prendas de ropa sexistas ni en roles sexistas al hacer las fotos. Que una niña pueda jugar al fútbol si le da la gana, o ir en moto con su padre. Que ellas y ellos se sientan muy a gusto conmigo, incluso si eso al principio significa que tengáis que darme un espacio a solas con su compañía. 🌿 Si no soy su amiga, no puedo hacerles fotos, no van a pasarlo bien, y eso es lo más importante. Porque si queréis un recuerdo familiar, tiene que ser divertido. 🌿 A veces es difícil, pero ésto es muy importante: No gritéis a las niñas y a los niños cuando estamos haciendo fotos, si se portan distinto a las expectativas que tenéis. No tengáis expectativas. La fotografía documental no puede ser planeada y no hacemos fotos de estudio. Esto es la vida y es imprevisible. Some will say that photo editing is a deception. It creates images that are not real. But I prefer to see it as a photo “finishing”. It’s true that Photoshop editing can be used excessively to edit body proportions. This can lead to people viewing their bodies more negatively, as heavily edited photos can lead to women aspiring to have the impossible-to-achieve ‘Barbie’ figure. But it’s not the “finishing” that is to blame. It’s the ones who do it who are to blame As the saying goes, “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people”. In the right hands and with the right technique, it is perfectly possible to make any good picture into a real piece of art. But it does not happen by magic. It requires a lot of learning and training. Just like painting, drawing, or writing. Some will take the editing to simpler directions, with slight color corrections and perhaps a small amount of cropping. Some will build whole worlds of dreamy fantasy. Everyone has their own view of how to deliver the message and emotion. If my posts, these images, and the story behind them helped you to open up about the condition then I a can’t tell you how touched I am and proud of you for speaking openly. I only spoke about my experience to print vide context for this work. Please don’t think that by finding a way out of Anxiety that I have achieved something extraordinary. It is still with me lurking in the background but I have managed to recognise it, manage it and overcome it. YOU can too! Anxiety and depression CAN be overcome. Help is out there, share what you’re feeling openly and open up to accepting help. There’s no more weakness in anxiety and depression than there is in toothache or a migraine! Я, конечно, давно немасенький, но один туда ни ногой. Помню, папа несёт по просеке на огромных своих плечах. Я про всё задавал вопросики, он доходчиво отвечал. ⠀ Это лето неповторимое: слепни, блёсны, улов плотвы, а с годами — непоправимое чувство грусти и теплоты. ⠀ Дни кружили, как крылья бабочки, и трещали поля цикад. Я собрал насекомых в баночки и поставил в длиннющий ряд. ⠀ Мама мяла клубнику с сахаром, заливая всё молоком. Деревенских пугают страхами, только я с ними незнаком. Поговаривали, на кладбище на Купалу горят огни, я, конечно, не верю в россказни, но без взрослых туда ни-ни. ⠀ Всё черешнево, дом в порядке, и у бабушки много сил: генералит шеренгой с грядками, может всё, что ни попроси. Жаль, что дед не увидит этого, вот однажды доем лапшу и открою его планету я, и в деталях нас опишу: ⠀ — Дед, смотри, какой я ракитовый, лазуритовый и большой! На двери деревянный щит прибит, не волнуйся: всё хо-ро-шо! ⠀ Я по плечи стою июльевый — повелитель лесных дорог, мы решили с соседкой Юлией разузнать, где курячий бог прячет солнечные колёсики, чтобы временем управлять. Groupthink Music Video BTS SNEAKY SECRETS! All images except the last one are by Belen Garcia (@mabelengg) 1. Playground scene that didn’t make the cut. This was at 6am but I was very happy. 2. Before moving locations, Belen shot some stills of us in the marshiness while the crew got set up. I like this one but it never got used for anything. So here it is!! 3. Crossing my arms AGAIN. I need to find a better waiting position that is less rude. 4. We called this dance move the West Side Story. 5. There was a basketball scene?! Didn’t make it in. I ran around and “intentionally” missed the hoop over and over again. 6. During this scene, Mayumi played Crazy in Love by Beyoncé so that we could channel some hot fire. Ha! I did actually feel pretty hot. But I also found it very humorous because my song is nothing like Crazy in Love by Beyoncé. 7. Changing some choreo on the day of because I am a monster. 8. The beloved shopping cart scene. The first few takes I was pretty stoic and calm and then Mayumi asked for us to have the time of our lives. So what made it in was me pretending that I was in labour and needed to get rushed to the hospital, while simultaneously yelling “GET THEE TO A NUNNERY!” Upon reflection, i have questions about what I deem to be having the time of my life. 9. Ok this is a BIG secret so if you made it this far you are in for a spoiler treat! This is not my hand! It was so windy and I am also not great with lighters. I tried a few takes and couldn’t get the flame to hold, then Luna tried to no success, and finally, Belen nailed it. Belen was wearing long sleeves (rightfully so, it was very cold) and I remember saying “your sleeves! your sleeves!” Because I was wearing a tee shirt and if she didn’t roll hers up, it would be clear it wasn’t my hand. The two flickers of flames was a happy accident due to the wind, because it lines up so perfectly with the BG vocals that Nach so delicately edited. I love that part. Hope you enjoyed these secrets. This is one of my favorite photo tricks: Day for Night! In this High School Senior Portrait we took Lauren out to the woods in Payson Arizona and shot in the shade of a the mountain with an hour and a half of daylight left. Lots of time to enjoy open shade, which allowed us to create anything we wanted. So we underexposed the forest, used a tungsten white balance and added warm gels to the #Profoto strobes. The #EOSR was stabilized on a rock (could have used a tripod). We used three lights: the #profotob10plus #profotoa1x and the #profotoc1plus (all which fit nicely in my assistant’s small Atlas Pack together with all of their modifiers and stands). A few little masking maneuvers in Photoshop in post removed some stray light and my assistant. Flip through the images to see each stage of the photo @profotoglobal @canonusa @profotousa @tethertools @atlaspacks Why have the light so close? Well, to make the scene believable the light from the lantern could only hit a few trees close to the subject, so the light had to be close. The girls rescued this butterfly from the lake. They nurtured it, talked to it, and blew on it for a good 10 minutes before it “passed on” as Leah put it. The loss was hard for Maddie. LEAF SHADOW DRAWING 🍃🌞 We did this last week on a sunny afternoon. I pegged the leaves up on some string between two chairs and Miss 4 carefully drew around the shadows. It was a great fine motor challenge for her and good for concentration and observational skills. 🎗September is pediatric cancer awareness month. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🎗Today, 43 children will be diagnosed with cancer, and, sadly, 7 children will die from this disease. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💛 The causes of childhood cancer are unknown and can not be prevented. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💛 Due to lack of research, some pediatric cancers have a zero percent survival rate, either at diagnosis or recurrence. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💛 All 16 different childhood cancers receive 4% of the national cancer institute’s nearly $5 billion dollar budget, while other cancers receive much more. ⠀ When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the whole family is affected.
