When I was in my early twenties and lived in London (for the record I paid ALL my own rent when I lived here and elsewhere ... I even paid rent when I lived with my parents), I lived with someone for a short while who’s Dad owned the house and neither them or their partner paid any rent at all. It was actually a mega frustrating experience because they somehow also never had money for things like groceries either and would often eat mine even though they lived rent free. I was young and silly then. Today I would never be friends with such a person. Because they proudly told me that their parent was exiled from the US for helping rich men cheat on their taxes in the 80s. Today if someone told me that I would scream, “Oh my god your Dad is a criminal.” I really excused SO much when I was young. Partly because I was so desperate for acceptance. Once I stopped caring about that I was mad about literally everything. That was my first experience in realizing that the rich hardly pay their fair share in our society. But there was something in the casual nature in which that person would tell you that makes me feel a bit grossed out today. Someone asked me yesterday what an equitable future looks like. Well for starters it looks like one where the rich pay their fair share in taxes. Let’s like just start with rich people paying their taxes. You aren’t a loser if you pay your taxes, you’re an active citizen of a democracy. Can you imagine all the stuff America would have if rich people paid their fair share? So that’s a future I want to live in for starters. Question of the week is in stories, check it out. Antibiotic resistance is now considered a global public health crisis. Some researchers are predicting that by 2050 our resistance to antibiotics will cause up to 10 million deaths every year, outdoing cancer as the leading cause of death worldwide. Antibiotics are (over) used in animal farming due to the intense farming processes that exist within the meat industry. The practice of animals being forced to live in confined, crowded spaces; not being given enough time to recover in-between births; and baby animals being taken away from their mothers too early places a strain on the animals’ health, compromises their immune systems, and increases the risk of disease transmission. Due to this risk some countries use antibiotics as a preventive measure, meaning these medicines are given to animals as soon as they are born, whether they are ill or not. Other countries use antibiotics to make livestock animals grow faster, so that profit margins are increased. Every time we use antibiotics (whether in humans or animals) we risk the development of drug-resistant bacteria (a superbug). By using antibiotics in animals when they are not sick, we are adding to the risk of drug-resistant bacteria developing. Remember that saying ‘you are what you eat’? Because our health is closely linked with the health of our ecosystems, and the animals in it, the use of antibiotics in animals can affect humans as diseases can be shared between humans and animals through direct contact. This is not to say we should stop using antibiotics altogether. Antibiotics are needed to protect the health of humans and animals, but should only be used when the animals are already sick. While the vast majority of antibiotic resistance is still caused by overuse in humans, researchers continue to acknowledge that the use of antibiotics in animal agriculture does pose a risk to human health. Limiting antibiotic use in animals is therefore an important step in reducing the risk that antibiotic resistant bugs (that can ultimately affect our health) develop in the first place. - @no_meat_may on Instagram

Number 3 on my Top 10 Video game series is the Sonic the Hedgehog series! These games have a long history that got its beginning with the first Sonic the Hedgehog game on June 23rd 1991. I have such a long history with Sonic. Been playing ever since I was 3 years old. That’s 27 years with Sonic. I love the hedgehog to death. The fast paced gameplay, the colorful visuals and the music are just incredible in so many games. Favorite Main games: Sonic 1 Sonic 2 Sonic 3 & Knuckles Sonic Adventure 2 Battle Sonic Heroes Sonic Rush Sonic Unleashed Sonic Colors Sonic Generations Sonic Mania Favorite Spin-Offs: Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing Sega Super Stars Tennis The only reason Sonic isn’t my number one is due to the unfortunate inconsistency with the Sonic games over the years. When one good one is released a terrible one follows. Sonic 06, Secret Rings and Black Knight were all pretty bad games and then there’s underwhelming games like Sonic 4 that suffered from meh controls and Lost World that was a slow moving game that felt like a watered down Mario Galaxy game and Sonic Forces is just bad all around. Trust me when I say I do love Sonic but his series has been hit with some bad times over the years. That being said I have an undying love for Sonic. He’s one of my best characters in Smash, his video game music is catchy and one of the spinoffs is one the greatest racing games ever. I collect antique punch needles and LOVE seeing how the tool has evolved as inventors have worked to improve the design! Aren’t these cool? The Oxford Punch Needle was born out of this same desire. My dream was for everyone to be able to work comfortably without suffering from injuries caused by repetitive motion. Punching is a VERY repetitive motion! I was able to get two US patents because of my punches’ unique ergonomic shape. I’d like to thank all of my friends and followers who’ve reached out to let me know about new punch needles coming out. Many of you expressed concern that my design was being stolen. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your friendship and loyalty! Please know that I bear NO ill will towards folks designing there own new punch needles that look different from mine! It’s actually really fun for me to see these new punches and to try them out! It reflects the excitement for the craft and I gladly add them to my collection. My only complaint is against anyone who copies my tool exactly. You might come across a punch needle that looks almost identical to mine but has a different name. Due to international patent technicalities, there was nothing I could do to stop this company. Failure is inevitable. In fact, I personally think that if you never fail, youll never truly know what it takes to succeed. However, 90% of startups will fail. Its just up to you to decide whether or not the concept is worth revisiting. If your startup has failed,d here are some reasons why it may have happened to you: 1️⃣ You didnt have the right team. If anyone on your team is prone to saying, Thats not my job, you may want to rethink their position in your company. In order to succeed, everyone involved should be willing to pitch in where needed. 2️⃣ You made a product that no one wanted. This means you didnt do your market research or implement A/B testing to see what the reaction would be from your ideal customer. 3️⃣ You werent prepared for growth. You cant be stingy when it comes to growth. If youre seeing growth, you should reach out to an investor so you can build your team and provide more efficient resources and processes for your customers.
