this poem is at large about trying to reconcile with being separated from “home” while constantly exposed to reminders of it. personally, i’ve been sitting on this feeling for awhile, and found myself constantly in a deep sense of nostalgia and grief— but for what, exactly? i asked myself this, and the clearest answer is “i miss my life.” the way it used to be, however messy, dramatic, painful. it was by no means perfect, but it was mine. i built my life in clinton, and it was entirely taken in a flash when the pandemic hit. my life in college, my friends, the town i grew to love (and at times, hate, which i learned is a form of love.) now i’m in a different country and don’t know when it’ll be safe to return. it’s a surreal feeling to see people reunited again in college, because that feeling seems so far from me now. i’m still trying to navigate this separation and reconcile with it, even when there are constant triggers. that’s where the last line comes from— it literally feels like i have been ejected from my old life, and am now watching it happen without me. this forced removal from the narrative is indescribable. there’s a constant emotional power struggle between hoping to reunite with the past, and knowing that even if i did, it wouldn’t be the same; an imitation of the past is not the same as having it back. this will likely be something i continue to explore through poetry in the coming months. - @heidiwongofficial on Instagram

I guess you could say Im a hoarder of memories and flashbacks and the things that happened, and the things that could have happened, as well as the events that I wish did not happen. Leading a very troubled and problematic life, coined by many periods of serious depression, Eckhart Tolle found peace overnight, quite literally. Vipassana meditation has helped me deeply with letting go, but I know that different things work for different people. Every individual has unique conditioning. I have been delving deep into self-healing for a long time now, recently I had an overwhelming feeling that I was ready for more, that I needed guidance on a spiritual level. As life, god or chance would have it, I met someone who had just started seeing a spiritual/energy healer. I have had a few sessions so far which have been incredibly powerful, revealing new truths and insights which I hope to slowly share over time. The words above, I wrote yesterday after having a guided meditation with this healer. The meditation was to get me in touch with my inner wisdom, basically to help get me out of my own damn way. After the session a pen and paper were waiting for me to write. These words, along with a page full of words from myself, to myself, flowed out and they were exactly what I needed to hear; the reassurance I needed. Not only this but I feel compelled to share these because I feel that someone else out there needs to hear these words too. If that’s you, let me know if they resonate.💗 Whatever your beliefs on energy, intuition, the divine, god, things we can not see and may never quite comprehend… I think we can all agree words are powerful, the stories we tell ourselves shape the person we become.
