Candle Study II 24x30 acrylic on board, 2020. I finally finished this newest candle halftone painting, done with exactly 7 colors. All the shading is created entirely with the carefully modulated line widths. Thanks @misspixelperfect for the high quality photo of it. A good portion of my time during covid was spent chiseling this out, and being in such a dark time was motivation for me to keep going. Although the subject matter is simple, creating a smooth circular gradient with a non-circular fractal pattern made this one of my most technically challenging pieces yet. Part of what made it such a challenge was the small size of the lines... Id love to paint this as a giant mural someday if someone knows of a good tall wall!
