The artist statement is simple. “Stop killing unarmed black folks” no art degree is needed. This was really short notice, We had less than 24 hours to create our concept and an even smaller window to compete it. All I needed was 30 minutes though. The concepts aren’t hard when you’re living this stuff, that what 400 years of generational trauma has created, my interpretation. @jason_woodberry and I cancelled our whole Tuesday to show up, but it’s ok, because I’m always ready to show up when art intersects with activism and social justice. Artist and designers should always stay ready and be ready. HUGE shout out to everyone that made it out and even those that couldn’t make it out due to the time frame. But I’m proud of all the artist, from the the ones that helped with concepts, the ones that did fill in work, the ones that did the lettering , the ones that did prep work.. and there were thousands there in spirit alone.. this was a complete community effort.. even the people that kept us fed, and hydrated. This is what the intersection of community and art can look like and SHOULD look like. . Hundreds of creatives working together , no egos, we were only leading with love to send this message about black futures. That’s it. This Memorial Day, I ask Americans to pause for a moment and offer a prayer of thanks for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for you and every freedom-loving American. Unfortunately, many of us never take that important moment to really appreciate the sacrifice that was made. Let me tell you my story. A few years ago, as a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, I traveled to visit the American cemeteries in both Europe and North Africa. On that Memorial Day, our committee participated in the Memorial Day ceremony at Netherlands American Cemetery. It was a beautiful day, and the ceremony was moving. A Dutch men’s choir sang ‘God Bless America,’ the Royal Netherlands Air Force did a ‘missing man formation’ flyover, and local residents and their children placed flowers on each grave. Stories were shared of the heroism of American and Allied soldiers who defeated the Germans at the Battle of the Bulge. After the ceremony, my wife and I walked past every grave to pay our respects. The white crosses and Stars of David glistened in the sunlight. At one of the graves, I paused to read the inscription, and it brought me to tears. In simple black letters etched in the marble cross it read, ‘Private Roy C. Irwin, New Jersey, December 28, 1944.’ The day Roy C. Irwin died fighting for America was the same day I was born. All of a sudden, the meaning of Memorial Day became clear. On the day my mother gave me life, Roy C. Irwin sacrificed his life for the freedom I have enjoyed and cherished for 72 years. On this Memorial Day, I say, ‘God bless Roy C. Irwin, and God bless America’s veterans.’ - @senatorisakson on Instagram

After succumbing to a fever of some sort in 1705, Irish woman Margorie McCall was hastily buried to prevent the spread of whatever had done her in. Margorie was buried with a valuable ring, which her husband had been unable to remove due to swelling. This made her an even better target for body snatchers, who could cash in on both the corpse and the ring. The evening after Margorie was buried, before the soil had even settled, the grave-robbers showed up and started digging. Unable to pry the ring off the finger, they decided to cut the finger off. As soon as blood was drawn, Margorie awoke from her coma, sat straight up and screamed. The fate of the grave-robbers remains unknown. One story says the men dropped dead on the spot, while another claims they fled and never returned to their chosen profession. Margorie climbed out of the hole and made her way back to her home. Her husband John, a doctor, was at home with the children when he heard a knock at the door. He told the children, “If your mother were still alive, I’d swear that was her knock.” When he opened the door to find his wife standing there, dressed in her burial clothes, blood dripping from her finger but very much alive, he dropped dead to the floor. He was buried in the plot Margorie had vacated. Margorie went on to re-marry and have several children. When she did finally die, she was returned to Shankill Cemetery in Lurgan, Ireland, where her gravestone still stands. I seen this lady in the train station about two years ago when I was taking the train to Brooklyn. Went to the flower shop, then I came back. Some look at it, what’s a flower going to do? This is somebody’s mother, maybe somebody’s sister or friend. Everybody has a story, I don’t care what it is, everybody got one. Two years ago, seeing her face light up, after I gave her these flowers & money afterwards, that made me year, actually. Now, the big question is, “Jay, why do you do this? Jay, are you real, are you sure this isn’t fake”. As we watched things unfold, we decided to leave the city, because they thought the LNG Tanker, a main gas source to Boston, was in the harbor and may be a target. I lived in the North End/Waterfront of Boston at the time, across from Logan. We would take our dog Dooley to Columbus Park every morning and at night, we would bring wine and drink with our neighbors and fellow dog owners. The most haunting part of the 2 weeks following this terrorist act on our country, was the absolute silence. No planes taking off, no traffic on the streets. I will never forget that silence, COMPLETE SILENCE. Entre as muitas coisas potentes que me disse, guardei uma a respeito da proeminência do elemento fogo no meu mapa natal, ela disse: o fogo destrói mas é também o centro da festa. Eu sou uma pessoa do fogo, inventiva e explosiva. E essas não são qualidades historicamente oportunas para as mulheres. A nós, foram atribuídos os trabalhos de nutrir e sustentar, não os de incendiar e recriar. Silvia Federici, no Calibã e a Bruxa, fala acerca das Pétroleuses, apoiadoras da Comuna de Paris que, segundo o ideário da época, iam pelas ruas com galões de líquido inflamável alimentando os incêndios revolucionários. Federici chama a atenção para o fato de as representações dessas mulheres se assemelharem muito às das bruxas: mulheres velhas, com cabelos não alinhados e roupas consideradas impróprias. Pirei quando vi essa representação que está na segunda imagem porque nela, especificamente, a Pétroleuse tem um seio para o lado da fora, como se fizesse uma referência às Amazonas, guerreiras míticas que supostamente amputavam um dos seios para melhor portarem o arco e a flecha. Historicamente, a bruxa costuma ser representada como uma espécie de anti-mãe - a velha, a depravada, a que come bebês - justamente porque encarna potências femininas que não estão investidas em trabalhos reprodutivos. A Amazona com um seio só, simbolicamente, é a que reinveste parte do seu potencial nutridor em sua própria potência guerreira. Apresentei hoje esse meu desenho para a turma do @escritas.que.dancam e ouvi que essa mulher parece estar sustentando o fogo como quem pratica um cultivo ou uma jardinagem. Fiquei com essa ideia na cabeça: nutrir o fogo que transforma, materná-lo. Am letzten Wochenende hatten wir die Möglichkeit legal in die Schutzräume eines ehemaligen Großbetriebes in Magdeburg abzutauchen und uns dort eine vollständig erhaltene Telefonzentrale anzusehen. Es war spannend als der Eigentümer das dicke Schlüsselbund raus holte, die Tür nach Jahren das erste mal öffnete, wir uns durch die dicken Spinnweben kämpften..... ;-) Im 2. Weltkrieg wurden die Keller des Betriebes zu Luftschutz- und Splitterschutzräumen umgebaut, zu Zeiten der DDR blieb der Charakter weitestgehend erhalten. Hier die ersten Bilder..... Thoughtful Thursday. Thankful Thursday. Therapeutic Thursday. All of the above indeed. My maternal grandfather died on Monday at age 101 in Seoul, S Korea. These photos show the funeral process in S. Korea plus the #tbt photos of him (and my grandmother who died a few years ago) at my wedding in 1998. I’ve been processing all week what I’m feeling and able to share it now in words. It feels like the end of an era. He was the last of my grandparents to go, and lived a very long, fulfilling life! I am at peace not only about his death, but my upbringing. I am thankful to say, I am proud of my family, Korean heritage, and what my grandparents have done and signify in my life. Yes, I did struggle greatly with my identity and know that I was definitely not a favorite mainly because I was the third oldest grandchild, second girl and didn’t compare with the other two cousins! 😭 However, a poignant moment I will always recall was the time my grandfather told me in 2002, I was raising my kids very well. That. Was. A. Moment. The first, the last, the only positive affirmation I had ever received from my grandfather. We were in Seoul visiting over the holidays and my son at the time was only 8 months old and never cried. :). So, he called him an “angel” in Korean and acknowledged that it must be from my parenting. 😂. In all honesty, my son was just a really good baby. 🤣However, I graciously accepted the compliment and owned it because it was so IMPACTFUL. It was then that I realized I had finally come to a reconciliation in my self-identity crisis. Transformed from that day on, and so passionate about the work I do today in mental health. 🤗 Grandfather 왜 할아버지wrote a book last year and he chronicles his life and includes his grandchildren. Yes, me too! And, he makes me sound much more accomplished than I am. Hardi Ananda selaku Lurah Malaka Jaya menjelaskan, kegiatan tersebut dilakukan guna mengantisipasi terjadinya genangan apabila musim penghujan tiba.⁣ ⁣ Pengerukan dan pengangkatan sampah atau lumpur tersebut sudah dilaksanakan semenjak hari Jumat (25/9/2020), sampai sekarang Rabu (30/9/2020),” ujar Hardi, saat dihubungi tim Sudin Kominfotik Jakarta Timur, Rabu.⁣ ⁣ Ia menyebutkan, hingga saat ini sudah dilakuan pembersihan saluran dan tali air di 9 lokasi agar tidak terjadi penyumbatan.
