How’s everybody doing out there? The world has significantly changed since the last time I posted! I hope you are feeling safe & have everything you need to hunker down. . I’m excited to share one of my favourite custom projects from 2019! This is an engagement ring created for the lovely @m_bielu. It’s based off of a human spinal column, which, having survived a spinal injury myself, I was really excited to make. . This was my first venture into the world of 3D printing for jewellers & I’m excited to explore ways of integrating this newer technology w/traditional goldsmithing techniques. . I know many of you, like me, are experiencing the stress of financial uncertainty. As a self-employed artist, small business owner & teacher with disabilities, I feel in a particularly precarious situation rn. . Unfortunately, all the classes I teach at the local community college have been cancelled. Because I’m a contract worker, if my classes don’t run, I don’t get paid. I have a vv part-time job as a goldsmith’s apprentice but it’s not nearly enough to make ends meet. . The good news is, I still am able to work from my home studio to fill your jewelry orders! . As if 2020 wasn’t enough of a shit storm - a wildfire (CZU lightning complex) has impacted our mountain neighbors and many of my close friends directly...and it’s not yet fully contained. So in an effort to make meaningful donations - i, along with over twenty fellow Santa Cruz makers, have come together to raise funds for our community. -We will be giving away FIVE carefully curated gift sets: including local jewelry, body products, swimwear, ceramics, loungewear, prints and paintings, home goods, and more. Each slide above shows what’s in each set and we will post photographs of the complete gift sets soon. (Note: the Heart set is specifically intended to be a care package for a local person/ family. Please only enter for this if you are local or would like to gift it to a local family that’s been impacted) - Donations are $10; they’re available to anyone in the US and you can donate towards as many sets as you’d like by sending payments to the Venmo handle @SC-Maker-Fire-Relief-Giveaway under the name Sasha Turrentine. - Upon donation, please give your email AND name a gift set in your comment on Venmo.
