At 38 weeks pregnant, a lot of people have been asking me how I’m doing in the midst of everything that is happening in the world. There’s been some downs (my mom can’t come to be here for the birth) but mainly, my husband and I have been encouraged and still very excited with the imminent arrival of our baby. We’re so thankful that we prepared and have everything in order. What we didn’t have, friends have graciously provided us with (extra diapers their own babies don’t fit into anymore, laboring and post-partum supplies). 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬... ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ You know how people say their favorite part of weddings is to watch the groom at the end of the aisle as the bride emerges? To see their reaction to such awe-striking beauty?⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ It’s kind of the same at births. There are moments when I witness that partner holding their loved one’s hand, whispering “you can do this, you are strong” and shedding tears of pure pride and wonder. I’d be lying if I didn’t admit I cry in those moments too. It’s the most amazing example of love and support. You can literally feel the 𝘰𝘹𝘺𝘵𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘯 spiraling through the room and doulas are trained to understand the power of that hormone so oftentimes, we encourage partners to be close, intimate and bond through the birth.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ As a doula, if a partner is present at a birth, it’s our job to enhance their role - never to diminish it or replace it. It’s our job to make partners feel safe and supported to show that kind of love and express emotions in a space that respects them.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Doulas can be a source of knowledge every step of the way by describing whats taking place, helping partners make informed decisions if interventions are needed and reassuring them the normalcy of common aspects to labor such as pain, shaking or vomiting, which can be scary.⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Doulas will guide partners through different hands-on positions (i.e. hip squeezing, abdominal lifts, dancing) that will comfort the birthing person. 20 Weeks Bump Date🥰- • • • I have been feeling a lot better these days, although still having random bouts of morning sickness here and there. I’m thankful for this chnage🙏 My energy levels are higher and I’m able to function beyond just getting through the day.🙌🙌 I started feeling movement about a month ago and little E loves feeling mommy’s tummy for her little sister. We also had our 20week ultrasound a few days ago and it went perfectly! Healthy baby in there and I don’t have a Previa this time around. It feels really weird to be posting anything. I haven’t in over 2 months. So much has been happening in our world and in my life as well, and it’s been important for me to step back. For the past couple months I’ve been dealing with a severe iron deficiency and all of the side affects that come with that. Going from being spunky, active and super productive to daily headaches, constant fatigue, dizziness, passing out, losing a lot of my hair and having to have my mom, boyfriend and other family members drive me and my kids everywhere. 😣 Who would have thought the lack of one vitamin could do so much harm. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I have been looking at the positives in all of this, and learning to be still and quiet, which is not easy for me. I have been seeing how the people in my life (my mom especially! ❤️) have been showing up for me and my kids and going out of their way to make sure we have what we need and are doing ok. You all know who you are and I love you! ❤️ As of now I am having good days mixed in with the bad...but I’m seeing that as a good sign that I’m getting back to normal. Even as slow as it may be. ☀️ Learning to be patient with myself might be one of the hardest parts to all of this. 😕 Jaime and Derek! I was definitely concerned about mom shaming and mom policing when I found out I was pregnant. But I thought I’d have 9 months to prepare for it. Little did I know, the judging and shaming starts the second you announce that you’re pregnant. It was pretty shocking to me. So, to all the new moms and moms-to-be: I want to assure you that you’re doing great. You’re doing the best you can. You can do your own research, talk to your doctor and make your own decisions. EVERYBODY will have an opinion and some people will try and shove their opinions down your throat. If you didn’t ask for their advice and feel that it’s forced upon you, you are under no obligation to take it. You can let it roll off your back and move on with your day! I wish the mom shaming would stop and I really hope it will. But for the time being, let’s just support and empower each other. 🥦 In the midst of the keto and paleo diet revolution: I want to highlight this important fact. I personally am usually a meat and vegetables kind of person. Outside of pregnancy, I am naturally a paleo eater and mostly am in a metabolic state of nutritional ketosis. Pregnancy is a whole different ballgame, however and I’ve shifted my diet to adhere to what is healthiest and safest for baby. Low carbohydrate diets are not recommended during pregnancy and new 2020 research (swipe right 👉 👉 Daniels et. Al., 2020) highlights one of the many reasons why . . . 🧬 DNA methylation of placenta genes play a key role in neonatal development and are closely correlated to disease risk of baby. This study demonstrates that women who consumed adequate carbohydrates during pregnancy had better levels of DNA methylation. In order for DNA to activate it must methylate 🧬 🔬 . . . 💥 Of course we don’t want to load up on non-nutritional sweets as our source of carbohydrates (although very tempting, and sometimes certainly deserved for a treat!). Here are some of my favorite healthy fiber rich carbohydrates that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed throughout my pregnancy: 🍏 🍍 FRUIT! (I’ve had amazing cravings for all things citrus and pineapple), steel cut oatmeal, chia seed pudding, and I add 2 tablespoons of organic flax seed to all of the above and also to my morning whole-milk Greek yogurt as well. I recommend flax for a great source of fiber during pregnancy. NUTS! Go-tos to keep in the cabinet are Brazil nuts, walnuts, and sprouted almonds. I cried when I first saw my body in the mirror after I gave birth to Izaac (6 hours before I took this pic). It wasn’t because I didn’t like what I saw, it was because I was IN LOVE with my body & was in complete AWE of what it had just done. Throwback 😂💕🌸 Two years ago, I was in the final days of nesting and prepping my home-birth space! I was at the point where I didn’t think I’d ever go into labor, cranky and exhausted. SURPRISE I did indeed go into labor 3 days later. Marcus and I were taking walks every night with Mattie before her bedtime. We went team green and had no idea the sex of the baby. Fun fact I had the names picked out pretty early on but hadn’t shared them with Marcus yet in case he didn’t like them because I loved them 😂🤣 , So Marcus spent the final days of my pregnancy on baby sites searching for a boy/girl name. I vetoed all his ideas, and then the day before I went into labor, I texted him while he was at work “ Boy= Johnny Marvel + my girl option (which I’m not spilling 😂). He responded with YES DONE. That was easy!! Also keeping the name choices a secret from my mom was probably the HARDEST thing ever. I legit tell her everything 😂🤣 - @wearingmomjeans on Instagram

Half way there! Can’t believe I get to have another baby girl. Baby is then size of a mango now and I’m feeling her move more and more. ❤️ I have a lot more energy and my pain is lifting. ✨ Fashion & your comfort zone. ✨ For me, I’ve always preferred to wear things that I think ‘flatter’ me. I know that can be a problematic word in the plus size community, but personally I’ve never had a problem with it, and I don’t find the word offensive. When I was visiting my pal @jessontheplussize last week, we decided to have some fun and I tried on pretty much her entire wardrobe. Jess passed me certain items and without even trying them on I said to her, ‘NOPE! I’ll look horrible in that. It won’t suit my size 28 body. No thanks.’ This dress was one of those items. Jess urged me to try it on and I begrudgingly agreed. I slid the dress down my body, and instead of being repulsed by my reflection, I was the opposite. That’s when I realised I was still stuck in the mindset I had years ago when my body was my enemy and I had these made up fashion rules that I just HAD to abide by. Tight fitting dresses would have always been a no-no. Yes, my belly outline is more visible, but so is my bum, and dayumnnn! 😜 Suffice to say, I took the dress to borrow. I’m still currently mustering up the confidence to wear it out, but just the fact that I tried it on shows how far I’ve come. I don’t stare and marvel at my changing body. I just don’t have capacity for it. I feel like I simply exist day-to-day to find something, without a waistband, to hold myself together. ⁣ ⁣ But then there’s these rare moments. ⁣ Like this one gifted to me because my husband took a photo. ⁣ ⁣ A rare moment where I can pause. ⁣ Soak it in. Hello there week 29 🤍 so surreal that the third trimester is here! Where did the time go? 6 months done & 3 to go! Not feeling that great right now though tbh. Baby Brianna Faith Franklin made her debut this morning at 8:11am 6 lb 14 ozs. She’s very long, calm and absolutely perfect with a full head of hair. We face timed with baby Dre who is now lil dre.. the baby position has been passed on 😂 he blew a kiss to her on the phone. This whole experience was different from Deandres birth in more ways than one. Mainly that this time it was a planned csection instead of an emergency csection. The main difference with Covid is wearing the mask at almost all times when nurses are around, not having visitors, and no newborn photo shoot. I did get tested Monday for covid and it was negative. The restrictions for covid positive moms are a lot different. My support person is allowed to come and go but can not trade spots for someone else to visit. We are allowed to order outside food and have people bring us things but have to meet them outside. 35 WEEKS. I’m excited to meet this little girl but I’m SO anxious about losing it again. The recovery, sleep deprivation, feedings, 2 kids 17 months apart, a pandemic... It’s a lot. I know how lucky I am and I know each stage is temporary, but I’m still feeling stressed about how I’ll cope mentally. I think it’s important to share that I have always had help. I never want to pretend that I do it on my own (I am completely in awe of women who do). STORYTIME: I can’t even begin to tell you how happy I am to share these with you all. After walking 1.5 miles to the beach, through puddles and shaky bridges, only to have no space to shoot on this tiny ass beach, jumping over a security barrier to this little cliff spot, firing off 40 or so shots in 5 mins, with an audience of about 80+ curious beach goers, getting caught by park police… and walking back another 1.5 miles… ALL WHILE PREGNANT… I gotta give It up to my good friend @valeriaxelvira B. I think it’s funny that the second baby is on the outside, people stop celebrating a woman’s body. So here you go. 6 weeks postpartum. Still awesome. Still looking pregnant 🤣 but that’s okay. I could pose in a very specific way and not look pregnant... but it just wouldn’t be real. This is what I look like. Swipe to see my stripes, umbilical hernia and stretched out belly button piercing. I’m not ashamed of this body and I’m not putting pressure on it to look “normal” anytime soon. Yes, I’m super excited to be in the next stage, no more carrying babies. I’m excited to get stronger and healthier. But there’s no rush. I’m tired and saving my energy for caring for my babies right now. I need to physically and emotionally recover before I begin to rebuild. So mamas, take a big breath and remember there’s no race. There’s no rush. Take care of yourself in whatever way feels best right now. There’s no need to bounce back. There’s no such thing as bouncing back anyway.
