Daniel Boyle had been working on groups of forms from mugs, beakers and bowls for every day use to more one off individual pieces for Ceramic Art London. ⠀ ⠀ Sharing how he makes his pieces, Daniel told us The firing technique I use is always evolving creating fluid glazes and textures in the firing cycle. NEW ARRIVAL!! - Ceramic Drinkware⠀ +⠀ +⠀ Matsuda Mitsuhiro was born in Osaka in 1962. Before starting a career in ceramics, Mitsuhiro-san worked at a museum, working his way up to curator. In 1995 he decided to follow his father’s footsteps and become a potter. He returned to his hometown to work with his father and build his own kiln. Ceramic artists in Japan give their Kiln (Kama in Japanese) names and this becomes the name that their work goes by. Mitsuhiro-san’s Kiln is called Kumano Aiga Kama. It is named after the region where it is located in a very mountainous part of Wakayama prefecture. It is these mountains and their vegetation that are the source of his clay and glaze. He digs all his own clay and experiments with locally sourced wood and vegetation to make his glazes. Using traditional methods and striving for beauty, his works are meant to blend into and become an integral part of their users lives.⠀ +⠀ We have commissioned some sake pieces from Mitsuhiro-san specifically for Black Market Sake. These are all one of a kind clay & glaze combinations in shapes created specifically for the Australian market. a friend from work asked if i could make a vase for a present.i was reluctant, because i am terrible at deadlines, under pressure and when i have to make something to order ... but i said i would try .. whyohwhy have i said that?!? .. i managed to completely forgot that i am a complete amateur! (whyhow does that happen to me?? i look at beautiful stuff people make every day and everyday i see how much i still suck...a little less every day,but nevertheless still) ... im not not an artisan or an artist. .. i dont make stuff that i want to make, i make stuff that accidentaly happens... but i try. so here is a work in progress from this weekend.. now they only have to be trimmed and decorated and hopefull at least one will survive and be pleasing (luckily and wisely, i told her that she should find some gift as a backup...) ... and of course i ran out of clay that ive been throwing with last month. as much as i like this betongrau clay its not very elastic. (i tell myself its its fault that i cant throw higher than almost 30.... Flat white coffee cups, this time in dark grey, moss green and forest green. These colours seem appropriate for a day like today 🌧 the second photo is actually the dark grey before firing, so its a pretty dramatic change in colour! Ive been working on a number of pieces recently for orders, so have put my new project aside for a couple of weeks. When Im trying to squeeze it in around commission work its becoming stressful, and I dont want to lose the fun and exciting aspect of the making by rushing it for no reason. Najdete nás mezi stovkou keramiků u stánku č. 82 v samém středu prostranství před Průmyslovým palácem, oba dny od 10 do 19 hodin. This work is in the Christie’s auction - ‘Art of the Kiln’ (swipe left for details) I painted it in 2018 as part of the Ink Blue series, using chinese calligraphy brushes laden with cobalt oxide. I don’t think I will ever tire of exploring painting with this extraordinary pigment whose tonal range moves from a deep saturated blue to soft light washes. The first of its kind in an Australian gallery, this historical moon jar encapsulates Korean traditions of art and minimalism. Unique to Korea, moon jars have gained their name from the round and gentle shape of the moon and the white glow of the moonlight. Appreciated for their slightly asymmetrical shape that allude to the beauty found in nature’s imperfections, a moon jar’s unadorned white surface is regarded as a manifestation of restraint and anonymity, devoid of greed or selfishness. Their simple yet all-encompassing ambience represents the Korean Joseon dynasty virtues of purity, honesty and modesty, Buddhist meditative practices and Zen philosophy and encapsulate the minimalist aesthetic that is paramount to Korean historical and contemporary art. The inquiries addressed in the book on “whether or not repetition is possible, what significance it holds, and whether something is gained or lost in being repeated” provide insight into the principles of Alev Ebüzziya Siesbye’s ceramic art, which she has been producing since the 1960s. 🔲 The exhibition brings together stoneware bowls the artist created in 2019 specially for this exhibition. Our new Arm Vase in production. The vase and arms are slip cast separately and then manually joined. When we first visited our ceramic factory a few years back, we were surprised to find out they are primarily a figurine manufacturer.
