Finally there is some color on this page 😅 This is my first year of growing #tinytimtomatoes and I’m in love. It’s a dwarf tomato which does not occupy so much space but yields quite well. Couple of notes for next year; - Install tomato cages around them: Since they are small and mighty the branches can barely handle the weight of fruit, it can definitely use some help. - Try not to prune much (it is an indeterminate variety) but cut off lower branches to allow air circulation. - do not plant too close to each other as they tend to bush out pretty quickly. Il nostro orto ci regala sempre grandi soddisfazioni. È un piccolo orto ma per noi basta e avanza per avere dei prodotti buoni e freschi. Faccio le melanzane sottolio, i peperoncini al tonno, la marmellata di cipolle o di peperoncini, olio al peperoncino e mangiamo tanti tanti pomodorini; ma iniziavano a diventare parecchi e allora ho fatto la 🍅 #passatadipomodoro 🍅 Finalmente ho trovato una ricetta perfetta per fare una passata con il mio #bimbytm31 : 📝📝📝 Un kilo di pomodorini lavati bene anche con un po di bicarbonato. Versateli nel Bimby e frullate 30sec da 7 a turbo. Adesso cucinate 25min Varoma vel 1 con il cestello al posto del bicchierino. Poi omogenizzate 30sec da 6 a Turbo 30sec. Ed in ultimo, ma solo in ultimo, aggiungete qualche foglia di basilico, sale e olio (Proprio lolio va aggiunto per ultimo perché ossida il pomodoro e lo fa diventare arancione). Versatela calda in un vasetto sterilizzato. Chiudete bene e lasciatelo capovolto e coperto da un canovaccio finché non raffredda, anche tutta la notte. Sandy soil, iron well water, high winds, extremely hot and dry weather, gophers, rabbits, squirrels, birds, mice, pack rats, dogs digging, part time first time #farming at this scale, infant in care, teaching college, unstable market due to stated virus, 5 goats, 40 chickens, puppy dogs, faulty tractor, wasps, very low budget, riots and masks ... as well as deep commitment to do it like nature does, chemicals free, on farm fertility, protecting and enhancing the native ecosystem, joy hope and love in our hearts for working with mother earth, help from friends and community members, excitment to see nature expressing its unforseen evolution as a response to our stewardship, cool evenings, star filled night skies, quiet mornings, magestic owls and hawks, happy chickens and goats, excited neighbors, full bellies, cold outdoor showers with views, grandiose sunrises and sunsets, happy bees, home cooked meals, acknowledgments from true supporters, learning about life and living, freedom, independence, experiencing the divine, family, love ♥️ . We did it, not all of it perfect or according to plans (life throws curveballs so we can learn how to thrive and become resilient). We did not flinch once, we kept going, courageously and confidently, asking for help when we needed and being detached from dissapointments. If you’re growing veggies in limited space and think you don’t have room for tomatoes - I highly recommend growing Tiny Tim Tomatoes! 🍅 Tiny Tim is a dwarf tomato - max height is about 2 feet. They produce LOTS of yummy snacking size tomatoes for about 2-3 months and can be grown in a 5 gallon container. 🌱 They are fun to snack on right in the garden, but one of my favorite ways to eat them is to cut them in half, mix with chopped cucumbers, basil, squeeze of lime, salt & pepper for the tastiest garden fresh salad ever! 🥗 I usually start seeds indoors - then transplant seedlings outside to a 5 gallon CaliKim @smartpots when they are 4 weeks old or 4-6 inches tall. Though stuck underwater for a week, being burned by the sun, almost swept away with high winds, our tomato trial survived. 💪🏼 . . In the days before everything shut down here, together with our partner farmers and a leading Rutgers plant biologist who specializes in tomato varieties specific to NJ, we planted seeds that we hoped would be better suited to the changing climate in our region. All while being open-pollinated, and without GMOs. 🍅 . . We’re a few years in on this trial, and we have been waiting for these weeks of harvest to see how they fared.
