So it all started a little over a year ago.... A 100+ year old piano that needed a home but repairs to keep it as a piano would be too much. 💡 After many, many, MANY hours disassembling (gutting) the rebuilding started. A new desktop, copious layers of primer, shelves, bottom storage (with careful attention to leave the feet peddles😉), and of course some shiplap😍. Then the perfect chairs were stripped of layers of paint & FIVE disgusting layers of fabric😖, re-padded , reupholstered & repainted. Taking some time to complete our own projects has been nice & this is one thing that wasn’t finished for our homeschool year last year but with some reprioritizing we’re ready for this year!! Im not expecting a miracle my client told me at first, I just want it to be a usable piece of furniture Challenge accepted ✔ This piece originally belonged to my clients grandmother, and had fallen into a state of disrepair while in another family members possession. My client said she remembered the piece from her childhood, when her grandmother would use it daily. The before pic is a little misleading...because this thing was literally in pieces. All the drawers and the door needed to be rebuilt, as well as the mirror support and the frame. Bubbled and cracked veneer on the sides needed to be repaired, and hardware was missing. My client told me that if her grandmother could see it now shed probably cry. I love doing restorations, and I consider them the heart of my work. After hearing this pieces backstory, this project became extra special to me and I really put alot of effort into seeing it fully restored. And although my client wasnt expecting a miracle, I think I gave her one. So I met Lynn from @_fringeboutique_ (a well established women’s boutique in Hanover) a week before quarantine. We hit it off and became friends immediately. During COVID we talked daily and it was so nice to have another boutique owner to vent to. No one knew if retail would ever be the same. Quarantine made us realize so much! What we definitely knew we needed was more time with our families, which meant we needed to stop working 6-7 days a week. So we brainstormed. We talked a lot on the phone 🤦🏼♀️I prayed. I prayed again. And then again. Finally I decided 2500 sq feet is so big for us, why not share a little bit of our space? Cape Kids now has a store inside our store called Fringe! They will be open this Tuesday at 10am! So while your shopping for your special someone you might want a little something for yourself as well!!! We hope you all love Fringe as much as we do!! Keep in mind we are still Cape Kids and Fringe is still her own entity. This is a store within a store!! I loved sharing my space with 16 other women for a clothing swap! It was astonishing to see how many piles of clothing we had all acquired. The best part was connecting with women who share a passion for reducing their environmental impact. Swapping instead of shopping is an important way to do that! ♻️ Several ladies walked away with cute “new” items and our leftover clothing will be distributed to the following 3 organizations. 1- Harvest Compassion Center which provides food and clothing to underserved populations in Phoenix. 2- American Textile Recycling Service who will sort and donate our textiles to secondhand shops and/or companies that use textiles for insulation projects. A portion of our proceeds will benefit Phoenix Children’s Hospital. 3- For Days, a company in LA, who will break down our shirts and find new uses for the cotton.
