The Practicum Guide is full of useful tips to stay organised, important things to remember, planning checklists, lesson reflection guides and prac expectations. This was so beneficial in preparing me for my professional experience. My practicum planner was my go-to for everything. I noted down my goals, lesson observations, tips and tricks I learnt from the teachers, class information, weekly plans and reflections. Yesterday I wrote two of my very, verrrrry favorite words! 🍂 This is the longest book I’ve ever written…in the shortest amount of time. It clocks in at around 100,000 words (though plenty of them will be trimmed out by the time you guys see it*) but over 93,000 of those words were written in the past two weeks…in just 11 days actually. Year 2020 is opposite than what I thought it would be. This year was supposed to be filled with weddings, instead I was getting emails from my clients how they decided to postpone their wedding date for next year. Just till August I was jobless. Then I started to get inquiry after inquiry... This year I might not have that many weddings left to photograph, but Im so blessed to take on sessions I wasnt thinking of doing this year. Not everyday our works get to appear on the newspaper @straits_times though this time it’s about pandemic weddings, we are thankful that we are still able to do what we love during this difficult times. I overheard someone sharing once that “pandemic weddings are special” and I couldn’t agree more. It hasn’t been an easy few months and we see so many of our peers, colleagues in the industry suffer and it breaks our heart but I also saw many local companies coming together to pull each other along, to support one another. We have (still having) our bad days but it’s during these dark that we had to force ourselves to find that bit of light. As parents we prepare for the arrival of our new baby(ies)...⁣ ⁣ And if you’re like us, you take every single prenatal class to be “prepared” for the real thing.⁣ ⁣ You (or maybe many of us) take virtual online classes and read pregnancy, pre-baby books.⁣ ⁣ We purchase all the essentials (and non-essentials) for our little one(s) because we want them to have everything they need.⁣ ⁣ And when we lay down to sleep we think about how wonderful our life is about to be with our new bundle(s) of joy and when that time comes we realize that we didn’t prepare for it all.⁣ ⁣ We realize we never prepared ourselves to all these new responsibilities that we now have.⁣ ⁣ We didn’t prepare for long and tired nights.⁣ ⁣ We didn’t prepare for someone to depend on us 100%.⁣ ⁣ We didn’t prepare to give up most of our “US” time.⁣ ⁣ We didn’t prepare for a different relationship with ourselves.⁣ ⁣ We didn’t prepare for losing our privacy.⁣ ⁣ We didn’t prepare to miss out on social events.⁣ ⁣ We didn’t prepare to give up our routine and adapting to new changes every single day.⁣ ⁣ We didn’t prepare for our expectations of a new parent to be thrown out the window.⁣ ⁣ Suddenly our bubble bursts and reality stops by to say “welcome to parenthood”.⁣ ⁣ Parenthood marks an unmistakable loss of parts of our life and ourselves. It’s a mixture of beauty and chaos.⁣ ⁣ Parenthood can be a lot of things, including grief- and it’s okay. It doesn’t mean you’re a bad parent. My life, my love, my best friend, my soulmate my beautiful angel. Words cant even describe how I am feeling right now. Never in my life would I have thought that our little family would be going through something like this. This all feels like a bad dream that has no end and can never wake from. I wish there was something I could have done to have prevented all this or at least got to say our goodbyes one last time. My heart aches with each passing day. The boys are equally in as much pain and tears me up inside to see them like this. We miss you terribly and no matter where we turn, there is something that reminds us of you. I hate that our wonderful boys and beautiful Millie wont get to grow up with such an amazing momma in there life. You were the rock in our family and always encouraged us to be our best selves we could possibly be. Our memories of you will forever be in our hearts from our baking sessions to our heat exhausting photo shoots. No matter what we did or where we went we were always together. I tried taking our boys for a drive like we used to do and the atmosphere wasnt the same. There was no one to bad-mouth my bad dad jokes, or tell me that I was going the wrong way (long way to me). Moments like those would seem insignificant at the time but will be the ones we cherish the most. I love and miss you so much baby with all my heart. You were such an amazing person inside and out and made an impact to everyone you encountered. I wish I could have one last moment with you to tell you how much I love you and how you were such amazing wife, mother, friend, sister, and daughter. Before I became a recruitment consultant, I was so sure that the key to a successful hiring process was to make sure that my resume had punchlines and passed through any form of algorithm on the AMS. Boy, was I wrong! Every hiring process starts and ends with a PERSON. Not a computer, not a machine, but a PERSON with actual feelings, emotions, ideas, values and opinions and at the end of the day they want to connect with a fellow person who fits the idea of what they have in mind. Hiring is truly an emotional process for the hiring manager and at the end of the day, what truly sticks out for them are soft skills and emotional connections. Why do you think hiring managers are impressed with candidates who have worked in one company for a while? They don’t celebrate the years of experience gathered, they actually celebrate the loyalty. So before you decide to change anything about you career personal brand, remember that we also like the natural, innate personal characteristics and strengths that make you YOU and this can sometimes compensate in areas you’re lacking. Your dedication and team collaboration spirit can sometimes be way more valuable than your ability to use a particular software. And yes, sharing your genuine passion and enthusiasm for your career can make a greater impact on an interviewer than being an Office 365 guru. We want to know YOU. We want to meet YOU. We want to see the soft skills that make you stand out. One of my absolute favorite trips so far has been to New Zealand where we spent our time traveling in a camper van and hiking the coast. My best memory from that trip was the night we slept on a beach under a panoramic view of the Milky Way. 2. My minor in college was studio art and in my pre-therapist life I actually sold a couple of paintings. Art continues to be a necessary part of my self-care and I love exploring new mediums and artistic concepts. 3. Aesthetics are so important to me and I love creating interior spaces. One of my shelter-in-place projects is my studio/home office. I love that it is a comfortable and creative space to relax and see clients on Telehealth when needed. 4. I took a year off between agency work and private practice to attend Parker University for massage school. It was something I started thinking about after undergrad and decided it was finally time to explore a new avenue of wellness. It also taught me that if something has been speaking to you for a long time it is probably a good idea to listen. 5. I am more of an introvert and thrive in one-on-one settings or small groups of people. It took time to understand this about myself and now it is something I embrace! I got coffee with a friend I haven’t seen in 6 years. we ended up talking about our past + how we’re not defined by our past scenarios. my friend + I confided in each other regarding addictions + how we work on overcoming those addictions day by day. ironically enough, I had a friend call me during my coffee date + long story short, he brought up the topic of addiction. he proposed a question that changed my view on how I face my daily addictions. for instance — if your worldly addiction is sex or alcohol, what does it do? sure it brings instant gratification + makes you feel good in the moment. however the really good question he proposed was 𝕨𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕕𝕠 𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕤𝕖 𝕒𝕕𝕕𝕚𝕔𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟𝕤 ℕ 𝕆 𝕋 𝕕𝕠? they don’t benefit your walk with christ, they leave you feeling empty, the list goes on. I went back to my friend inside the coffee shop, with a big smile on my face + proposed that question to her + it made a world of difference for the both of us. the list of what they do for us is nothing compared to what they don’t do for us. addictions are real + they don’t have to be extreme. whether it’s drugs, sex, alcohol, pornography, social media, television, food, etc., they’re real + the enemy wants you to cave — however, my question to you is this: what do those addictions you have in your life N O T do for you? @__nishhhhha it was so good seeing you, my girl! 🤍 - @faithmabraham on Instagram

Many of us (including me!) are adjusting to new roles this month - and with new responsibilities come growing pains! One of those is being the one to call a consult. @drscopeswithguts has put together a great #whatdoisaytomyconsultant campaign and I wanted to jump in. 📱 first and foremost - PLEASE call, unless your hospital has a policy to put in an order only. Be available for a bit after you page or call to give the consultant a few minutes to call you back and have the chart pulled up to be as efficient and effective for you as possible. Have basic information like name, age, location, and MRN available to you. Have a call back number available so that we can relay recommendations after we’ve finished the consult - this ensures that you get the help you need as quickly as possible. ❓What’s the question? We are here to help and want to make sure we are addressing your concern! If you’re not sure, don’t be afraid to clarify with your attending or senior resident. Similarly, if you get pushback from a consultant - don’t be afraid for hand the phone over to someone more senior on your team. For peds GI (@physicianallyfit did a great post on this): ❗️how long has the problem been going on for? If it’s not new, what has changed? ❗️recent labs (CBC, CMP) are really helpful, and imaging if applicable to the problem ❗️what other medical problems does the patient have and what medications are they on? ❗️if a GI bleed, please check CBC, know baseline/most recent hemoglobin, and any evidence or history of liver disease For peds hepatology: ❗️All of the above, especially comorbidities, medication changes, prior labs PLUS: direct/fractionated bilirubin, GGT, and markers of liver function like INR, albumin, and glucose ❗️I will almost invariably ask for an abdominal ultrasound with Doppler ‼️ for Jaundiced babies: - gestational age and current age - Other medical problems and medications - Feeding and growth - Any evidence of hemolysis - What does their stool look like? How do I look? Does it matter? . . I wish it didnt. Recently, in my dermatology clinic Ive had patients coming in with complications from using products trying to change their appearance. One lady wanted to lighten her skin and used a product which caused a severe rash and left her with patchy pigmentation. Another with problems following using a tattoo type treatment. . . My patients tell me they wish they were lighter/ darker/ less hair/ less redness etc etc. Its mostly women but men have these issues too. . . I help where I can, but the solution is wider? Why is society so hung up on appearance? Im guilty of it too and try and post pictures where I look half decent. When younger I also wanted to fix so many things about my looks and I usually wear make up when out to hide flaws. . . Surround yourself with people that make your light shine brighter. ✨ . Today we had a suuuuper long photo shoot, the first shoot I’ve done since February. A lot of things were different today, and my confidence level was askew due to the fact I pretty much haven’t seen many humans outside my household since March, let alone having to be in front of a camera - with my gained weight I’ve been trying for years to achieve. . When this photo was taken, and for YEARS beforehand, I struggled mentally with HIGH anxiety and about a month after this photo I had a mental break and lost concept of reality. I have lost many, many friends since last fall because of my inability to reach out as well as other reasons. . Today was immensely different. . Today I showed up comfortable with my body and mindset, even if I was nervous. I spent the day with two amazing friends who only simply want the best for me and have been so supportive through the ups and downs. When they say it takes a village, it’s the truth. I have my flaws, my limitations, my inexperiences, and so much more. But at the end of the day I have found myself surrounded by people that love me and care for me, even when I’m not at my best. Today felt like the first shoot where *I* showed up. Jessica. No pink hair, food in my belly, and a peace in my mind knowing I didn’t have to have all of the answers. . Thank you, all, for being with me on the journey, even if you didn’t know this was the path I was on. We recently took on a new studio in our home city of Sheffield. Moving to this space was a big step for us, so to document the space we asked the best person we know for the job, @jimmarsdenphotography . Our new Glossop Road studio has enabled to grow our in house team, be closer to the creative community and spread out both physically and mentally. This year has definitely been a turn your world around kind of a year. I was let go from my corporate job in October of 2010. I wish I could say it was my plan to quit, but it wasn’t. Hi friends! I know as Mother’s Day quickly approaches you have many wonderful local options for floral deliveries (really! Spokane is so lucky!). I wanted to share a little about myself as the owner and creator behind HoF so you can get to know me a little bit and what your business means to me. My name is Amanda Dixon and it’s usually just me at HoF and sometimes my awesome help @mama_bird_simonsen. I primarily offer wedding and special-occasion floral design with an emphasis on organic free-form design with lush gardeny vibes. I use locally grown and foraged blooms and greens as often as possible. I am a co-owner if @fellowcoworkingspokane and used to be there on the daily until I made a shift to be home more with my sweet almost-three year old named Ryatt (and yes. He totally lives up to his name!). As the daughter of a small business owner I know I want to involve my son in those aspects of our life. He comes with me to the wholesaler and on deliveries. I work downstairs during his naps and after bedtime. Speaking of which- I’m a morning person but not when it comes to design. My best work comes very late in the night while listening to Post Malone. My husband, son, three dogs, cat, and I live in a renovated barn on my parents property as we save up to buy our own land and house hopefully someday soon. I think the smell of lilacs and peonies heals what winter breaks and that everyone would be better off with more flowers in their life. Thanks for being here. Truly. If you’ve been feeling foggy, unclear, or bummed out about your creative project, then most likely, you are misaligned personally and/or in your creative career.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sometimes alignment can be tricky to spot. It’s easy to forget to be grateful when we’re feeling 100%. But if you’ve never really felt totally aligned in the first place, then it may be easier to point out the traits of not being in alignment, so you can make some parallels to your own life.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Thats why in Episode 50 of Creative Brand Sessions, I’m talking about what YOU look like when you’re misaligned, as well as what your CONTENT looks like when you’re misaligned.
