Atharva hates my laziness. he made sure to point it out every time he could. When summer would roll around, he would wake up at 5:30. Here’s what he would do: 5:30- wake up 5:45- turn the lights on in my room and pretend to look for something 5:50- take a shower 6:10- turn the lights back on in my room and comb his hair for a solid 15 min 6:30- take all my blankets and hid them in his room. It became an everyday routine. Every time he came in my room I’d wake up and finally at 6:30 I’d end up chasing him. He successfully managed to wake me up at 6:30 everyday he was home. He always said mornings were the most productive hours. He said I’d see a change in my life if I woke up earlier. I finally listened to him for a bit. And I definitely have noticed it. I can’t remember where this story was going, but I do know words can’t describe how much I love you and how much I already miss you. It breaks my heart to have to make this post for you. Slow Decay is out. And honestly I didn’t realize how many emotions I had surrounding this release until midnight last night. This is our second record in a year and yet again we all poured ourselves into this one. I’m so proud of what the 5 of us created, along with @randyleboeuf to help keep our heads clear and to reassure us the entire way. Now allow me to get emotional for a moment. . In a weird way, I think I’ve experienced some level of imposter syndrome in this band until now. I felt like I couldn’t confidently refer to myself as a piece of the legacy that is TAS because I still only viewed myself as “the new guy” or someone who was just there to play guitar. And that’s all my own thoughts, the rest of the guys have treated me with love, respect, and value from the second I first practiced with them over 4 years ago. Hell, from the second I met everyone during Above/Below. While It Comes In Waves taught me personally what I was capable of, I knew that record was a sonic change for TAS. Slow Decay was different though. We took on the traditional sound of the band and updated it. Knowing we wanted to honor our roots but show that us 5 in 2019 and 2020 had something to say and prove. This changed these feelings about my place in the history of this band. To have sat in a room with 5 of my best friends and to create what many are calling our best record to date is monumental to me. I can not thank my band mates and the metal/hardcore community enough for allowing me to live this out. Slow Decay is Vincent, Kevin, Devin, Griffin, Tom, and Randy. We did it boys. I could not be more grateful for these experiences. . Thank you to everyone who helped us make this possible. It was a lot of writing and photographing and editing and more editing—catching misplaced hyphens and colons and photo credits and photo choices. Back and forth between these beautiful people for months and months and months. It was a long haul through the summer, but so very worth the effort. So very worth the connections. So very worth the time, and so very worth the product that you will soon have in your hands. Okay, well if ‘soon’, means the end of October... All good things take a long time. Semi-annual is perfect for us, even though it’s been months of saying ‘end of October’ for a release. Most days, I walk through these doors absentmindedly. But for some reason this week, I am extra thankful for these four walls. I’ve done the nine to five. At a desk, in an office, at a secular company – miserable, discouraged, and purposeless. I got the full ride, I earned the two B.S. degrees, I was on my way to med school. But at the end of each day, the only thing that mattered was, “Am I in God’s will?” Don’t let this world (or your small, personal world!) pressure you into feeling unsuccessful because there are not 26 letters following your name and six digits following a dollar sign. The most successful person in the world is a child of God in the center of His will. It doesn’t matter what comes my way, how hard Satan fights, or how bad a week can get (and trust me, there are some doozies!), there is peace + new mercies every morning in His will. #FollowChrist (And if there’s someone in your life who gave up their path to success for Christ, encourage them. The smoke in Vancouver – coming from USA climate fuelled wildfires – has been relentless for 7+ days. Its unnerving to think Vancouver is currently sitting on the frontlines of climate change, with some of the worst air quality in the world. It feels apocalyptic, to be shuttered at home, looking out at the dense smoke & knowing outside is a deadly cold & harmful air. It’s hit my mental health, bringing on panic attacks & intrusive OCD thoughts. I feel existential dread, & AT THE SAME TIME I feel gratitude. I am lucky. I have a place to shelter, I live right by a grocery store, I can work from home, I have money to escape the city, I am healthy. I feel guilt. Other people in Vancouver aren’t so privileged; homelessness, addiction, colonialism against indigenous peoples, social neglect – often a combination of these - make COVID & smoke disastrous & downright dangerous for many in Vancouver. & these feelings are combined with relief. This is temporary. This smoke will pass. The city will again have crisp clean air. But there are cities where poor air quality is a near-constant. The permanence they experience, without a respite in sight, must be overwhelming. I feel glad to bt here, not there. I feel fear. Is this our future? I’m scared that one day we will not be able to take a deep, satisfying, joyful breath of fresh air. Every time I think about this, & the next time I can breathe clean air, I cry – experiencing both fear & comfort. I feel helpless. I have tried to exert a semblance of control with online activism & organizing. It doesnt feel enough. The issue is still at our door. In truth, its made me question my faith in our ability to change the course of climate change. I share this rambling, b/c I need an outlet to air my thoughts, but also to show that even activists & organizers don’t hold a 100% positive outlook, especially for those of us who live with mental health illnesses. This week, organizing, working full time, socializing, being away from family & friends, & trying to come off of mental health medication while wading through this complex sea of emotions has been an unwelcome strain. - @lowwaste.plantbased on Instagram

Happy Wednesday everybody!!! Hope you’re having a stellar morning. 🤙🏽 So yesterday.... was one of those days. I couldn’t seem to focus, my neck was hurting, couldn’t seem to get locked in and productive. I tried everything from drinking some coffee, going on a walk and just sitting there for a few hours trying to work but just not feeling inspired. Yes some of you may think “Nate just shut up and work hard anywhere”. “Nate you shouldn’t need to be inspired” true true. I had the best preceptorship experience! Thankful to have met my lovely preceptor ❤️ She definitely welcomed me with open arms as well as challenged me during my preceptorship in the Emergency Department. It is normal as a nursing student to have feelings of not being accepted or a burden to the nursing staff, the whole “nurses eat their young”. I definitely did not experience that, I connected with everyone on this floor and did not want to leave (did more hours than I needed to). I was taught so much and they all believed in me and my skills to help out. I am truly blessed for this experience! Life Update #3 We did a thing. We bought our forever home. ♥️ It was not a house I expected to fall in love with. I wanted a turn-key house (to be honest - a McMansion🤣🤣). But this is 2020 and I’ve learn to expect the unexpected and this historic house built in the 1930s on over 9 acres on a hill with a barn feels like HOME. It’s our slice of heaven. We moved in over the weekend and it’s been non-stop. We are exhausted but so excited about all the upcoming projects. Interior design/renovations is my secret guilty pleasure. And Jon is especially excited about renovating the barn and silo. Now does anyone know the people @hgtv? *sap fest* In middle school I started day dreaming about living in California, driving up the PCH and working in fashion. TODAY I’m celebrating my 5th year as an Angeleno! This city gives my soul purpose and makes me believe all is possible (and that you can have anything organic) It hasn’t been easy—I’ve worked 27 days in a row, watched my nephews grow up via FaceTime, and held three jobs at once. haven’t had a layover since MARCH so here’s a pic of me and the only shoes I brought for my 3 day trip. Also, I forgot face wash so me and my skin are crying. And no, I haven’t been on a leave I just forgot how to properly flight attendant for anything other than a turn. Honestly I’m just happy to be flying while I still can so if I need to wear these shoes down to the hotel lobby and get some weird looks or only ‘wash’ my face with the makeup wipe (yes, add that to the list of things i forgot) the hotel provides then so be it.
