@rap.analyst As you guys may know, Im not the biggest fan of the Southside. But I acually like Goodie Mob, they are such an underrated group. Their first record (also my favorite record by them) is a milestone for the southside Hip Hop scene. Their raw and dirty rapping style is rather unique, and in combination with their punchlines a very great recipe for a classic album. I really like the chemistry between each group members and every feature on here (my favorite being Big Boi of Outkast). Happy release day to me. Companion Rises is officially out. The process of making this one was a bit different than recent 6 Organs records in that I did everything myself, sort of like those early jams, even down to the the photos on the cover and inside. Mostly this was just to show myself that I can still do this thing solo, just as I imagined the project when I first started. That said, I still drew on experiences I’ve had over the years making music with so many of my friends. I thought of @randallbdunn telling me years ago, “you gotta get some varied pre-amp sounds when you record to make the sound more diverse.” I thought of one of my oldest friends, Utrillo (who I’ve played in countless bands with, including Comets), and how he might play drum fills to these songs as I programmed the beats. I thought of another dear friend, Rob Fisk, and how he is able to conjure up the most hidden sounds from just a few strings on his guitar. Just a few examples of folks I have been lucky enough to make music with over the years who’s ideas flow through me, even if I’m not conscious of it at the time. So even though the credits say everything by me, really this record is a plane of convergence where many inspirations and ideas shared or learned from friends meet. And it is a reminder to myself that I’ve been very lucky to be able to share those experiences with so many amazing people. - @6organs on Instagram

It’s hard to believe it but last month marked 10 years since the original release of @thestuyvesants’ “Brooklyn’s Finest” album. I can’t really put in to words how much this record means to me. I started working on it at a time when I was struggling and seriously considering quitting making beats. But putting this album out completely broke me out of that mentality and lead to countless accolades, music opportunities and personal connections that I could have never anticipated. So many amazing memories were created around this project. When ever I listen to it now, I’m immediately transported back to the Brooklyn summer of 2010, and all of it’s Black culture that we intentionally tried to capture in the music. The entire project is completely art-directed, produced and released independently by @darienbirks and myself—no label or marketing campaigns at all. It’s entirely a labor of love and up to this point it has only existed in a digital form but it’s always been a dream of mine to have it exist in a more permanent format. To commemorate a decade of the original release, we started a campaign to fund a small vinyl pressing run so that both us and our fans can have something tangible to hold on to and remember the good times. Nous’klaer & RE:VIVE present two scores by Thessa Torsing (upsammy)and Tammo Hesselink. Torsing’s is a 27-minute piece, composed for a collage of archival footage of the Dutch ship MS Oranje. The short film explores the lifecycle of the ship, from production to usage and to the fire that ultimately destroyed it. Hesselink’s is a 17-minute piece for the pioneering short film, Ballet Mécanique (1924), a rigid composition of sharp notes and twisted drum patterns that hypnotically evolve accompanying the film’s staccato rhythm. 13 years today. Made it in a bedsit on Upper Clapton Road. Quit my job in a pub about two weeks after it came out. We couldn’t get a distro deal with ST holdings because some absolute tool there didn’t get it. We did sale and return independently to every small record shop in the U.K. I think. Post office everyday sending records all over the country. Bill Dolan at Cargo Records took the final 200 from us and we sold out of our first release. The A side, Please Say, was originally released via a scare pressing on the groups own Magic Label and has since been reissued on several CD compilations (Psychedelic States, Teenage Rebellion to name a few). The track was recorded at the infamous Gateway Recordings in Pittsburgh, and penned by singer, John Golden - and if the name sounds familiar thats because it is thee John Golden of Golden Mastering fame. The track is a moody, angst ridden slice of teen rock that was ahead of the curve with regards to the proverbial garage rock explosion of 1966. The B side, Daydream, originally released as the B-Side to their insanely rare debut single on the obscure WAM records label (Youngstown, OH), is a sublime instrumental ballad whose breezy feel and gorgeous guitar melody will take your mind back to the carefree summers of adolescence. In a time when every garage in the country had some kind of racket blaring out of it, Johnnys Uncalled Four were one of the few groups whose undeniable craft elevated them beyond the cement confines of their suburban home, and into the year 2020 for a whole new generation of rabid rock n roll fans to devour. I released Them Spirits a year ago today on my birthday 🕊 The songs came out of an incredibly dark time which I had never imagined writing about, let alone sharing.
