No surprise given that #theking sold out every single performance in their Las Vegas showroom. Shoofey’s daughter Teri Lyn (photo 2) was only 4 years old when Presley first opened there in 1969, but she has special memories of a childhood involving Elvis’ residencies in the entertainment capital; “He’d let some of the hotel executives’ kids build forts in his closet and we would crawl around all the clothes with the sequins and rhinestones. I remember him bringing me a giant teddy bear, about 6 feet tall, for my birthday. And he would have candy bars set up, like other people have alcohol bars, with big jars of candy, every kind you could imagine. Having had two grandfathers both in the entertainment business they couldn’t have been more opposite in character. When you looked into their eyes one had a precious gleam that you could never refuse; you immediately felt a kindness and gentleness that connected to your soul, he gave every being a chance to feel his love and deep empathy. He looked at his children and family with the utmost love… he gave everyone a chance… he helped those who were less fortunate… he guided those who were troubled and handed them an opportunity for a better life… he never gave up on people… he saw the good in them when no one else could… he built a village in Italy for refugees and saved the lives of many, despite contracting a major medical condition himself, he continued to help the village survive and live prosperously. During all that he contributed to the world, he also managed to be one of Hollywood’s most respected movie stars. He chose movies that he thought to be ethical and that would educate the audience and inspire them to become activists for whatever they believed in. Not once did he let fame corrupt his mind or heart in any way. This man is known as the real father figure to my family even to those not related by blood. Don Murray has been my inspiration and still is to this day. When you looked into the eyes of my other grandfather you felt some kindness but it would soon fade. He took a not-so-similar approach through life, he decided to change the world through music… and that he did but he sacrificed all things worth living for; like a relationship with his children. He was able to appear to be involved with those who loved him for a short time. Those who knew him knew his songs were all he could fully give. I would like to thank him for producing some of the most incredible people in my life. My father, who is my everything, despite not having his dad around ever, taught himself how to love and care for me and my mother. His nature is so drastic from that of his biological father that was Ric Ocasek.
