The 35mm film is the result of 18 southern filmmakers capturing their impression of the south in the fall of 1995. Swipe to see the article from the Georgia Film Newsletter and hear the backstory! (See link in our bio for the whole project.) 70 Southern Directors submitted their reels. 18 Directors were chosen. They selected their own crews. In one 24 hour period that shot in 27 cities and 134 locations across the South. The script was written by Mark Johnson. Johnny Cash recorded the narration in Fort Worth. In 2005 I had the opportunity to speak on the phone with @alanmenken, and it was a call that changed my life in more ways than I can say: lessons were learned, questions were answered, and wisdom was imparted. From that conversation, many of my lifes most pivotal decisions were made, and his words are etched in my memory and continue to guide me today. But perhaps the biggest thing I learned from him was not anything he said, but rather what he did. He, a globally-acclaimed multi-Oscar and Grammy award-winning composer, took 30 minutes out of his day to talk to an unknown 20 year-old aspiring composition major from whom he was several degrees removed. During our conversation he was kind, forthright, and fully present, asking me questions and offering advice. The big lesson: always be generous with your time. Whatever measure of success youre fortunate enough to achieve, you will never be too big, nor will anyone else ever be too small. Alan Menken taught me that. And today, he became an #egot winner 🏆🏆🏆🏆 Congratulations, Alan. Your music continues to inspire me. And so do you.
