Uncovering this little 2017 adventure from Svinklovene, Denmark, while I #stayathome to #flattenthecurve. These wild horses live along the shoreline of the North Sea, within the Svinkløv Dune Plantation – a 700 hectare state-owned historical site and internationally protected EU wildlife habitat area. Until the 13th century, there was a sea passage here called Sløjen, that offered merchant navies and Viking ships access to the Limfjord and the North Sea. Over time the wind and smashing waves have closed the passage with shifting sand along the coastline. In todays age, this is now a rugged and stunning landscape, and its natural inhabitants are absolutely spectacular. • While I angled my camera for these shots, the herds black stud watched me very intently, as he claimed his territory. My friend Christina Pedersen (who took me to this special spot), also stood patiently in the grass with these beauties... until the light dropped low against the horizon and the horses drifted into the grass covered dunes. Afterwards, my friend and I both laughed in disbelief that we had spotted and photographed these danish wildies. #DerbyDiaries Sam Franklin- I remember getting up one morning with tears in my eyes because I was unsure if I was going to be able to keep riding. It was day 8 or 9, the back spasms, which rendered me breathless every time I moved during the night, had finally broken me. Molly and Rachel were so concerned they grabbed @TheIntrepidMedics’ Andrei but there wasnt much he could do at that point. Two summers prior, I was laying in a hospital bed, I’d fallen 40ft while rappelling down a rock face. I was lucky to be alive, but had managed to break my back, wrist and cracked my sternum. The derby was my two year anniversary from the accident and the biggest reason I signed up. Flash forward to the present, I told myself the pain was definitely not worse than falling of a cliff, but that was a lie. But I did what any person insane enough to do this race would do, finished crying, put a smile on my face, lit a cigarette and said fuck it lets go. The fun part of it all was the people I got to ride with, Molly and Rachel kept moral up. We’d spend 14 hours a day racing, laughing and getting to know each other. Helps also when you have a fast horse. One day, I pulled this beautiful chestnut stallion who only knew one speed, fast. The whole leg was through a desert with hundreds of goats, we had navigated to this sandy road next to a river so he had plenty of room to just haul ass. I remember at one point laying horizontal across his back trying to stop him so I could catch my breath after about 5 miles at a full gallop and he showed no signs of stopping. I dont think I will ever ride a horse quite like him ever again. I think the whole race for me was an adventure. Going across the world, never riding an endurance race in my life, not knowing anyone before stepping off the plane in Mongolia’s Capitol- UB, it was all definitely out of my comfort zone. The personal growth I experienced from the Mongol Derby could never be measured. I would say Mongolia as a whole changed my personality/self for the better. I came back knowing more than I ever did about myself and grew exponentially spiritually and as a person. *story continued in the comments below - @mongolderby on Instagram

We’re busy planning next year’s Supercar Fest ‘the Hill’ and thought that it would be a good time to celebrate our first visit to @shelsleywalsh Hill Climb in 2019. We had a fantastic day of demonstrations from all the Supercars, many of whom offered passenger rides to those brave enough to ask. Lets explore some facts - . • Turf houses or torfbaeir as they are called in Iceland were largely made up from wood, flat stones, turf and soil. A wooden frame is the first thing to be built, limiting the need for wood greatly. Secondly was the turf that would be laid down, often in a herringbone style and in two layers to seal the insulation. 🌎 . •The only additional wood to be added in a turf house would be for doors and doorways. . • the badstofa or the hall is a place where whole family gather for the night to eat, sleep and socialize. People often house a special chimney there so that the smoke from the turf houses’ only fire could escape. 🔥 . • Icelanders don’t live in turf houses anymore. You might still see an occasional grass roof but that has everything to do with architecture and Icelanders wanting to hold on to their beloved heritage. ❤ . • In the year 1890, over 87% of the Icelandic population lived in turf farms in the countryside. I tend to head out to the Yorkshire Dales rather than the Peak District but really it’s a very similar drive to both! The Dales is full of my favourite villages but the Peak District has some epic features 🤩 ... The sunset wasn’t particularly colourful because there weren’t really any clouds about but the sun was golden and catching all of the details of the valley where you can see all the way to Edale (although not in this shot!) ... Scottish Venison Day🦌 It was Scottish Venison Day yesterday. We’d like to join in by celebrating the local stalkers who are getting the deer from the hills for us. We use sustainably sourced local wild venison from our surrounding area. Wild deer roam freely in the Scottish hills feeding on heather, wild plants and grass. With no natural predators in Scotland, the wild deer population has to be managed by man to keep the numbers at a sustainable level. This is to protect the environment from overgrazing and starvation of the animals in a strong winter. Deer stalkers selectively choose the deer and cull them based on age and gene pools, resulting in a population of younger and healthier animals. Even nature is doing its part to be green...the waterfall is recycling its own flow!... 😅😅 . Tb over a month ago my first trip to the northwest after the lockdown, I took a detour of chasing waterfalls, I was really lucky to witness the phenomenon of the upflowing Devils Chimney, I was so excited that I posted it right after and only now I caught up with some of the editing of that trip. Here at Firepot, we love a path less travelled. When @marcusleachglobal decided to cycle the John O’Groats to Land’s End route, he did it a little differently. This was #JOGLE, ‘the scenic route’ - a striking journey via the west coast of Scotland and down through the UK’s main National Parks and most significant mountain passes. It meant that Marcus clocked up almost 1,000km more than the standard John O’Groats to Land’s End route, and over 38,000m of ascent.
