Today is my last day of a Trauma informed yoga teacher training. It’s not my first one and won’t be my last but by far the best one I have taken! Being trauma informed, not only in yoga, but in life is a huge game changer! And I can only encourage everybody, wether Trauma has affected you or not, to seek information about it. For me this is just a little part of becoming a trauma therapist. And from what I have learned over the past 10 years I can truly say, I have never known myself more intimately then I do now. Being able to sense what is arising in my body before it leads to suffering and being able to care for myself with compassion and stay in control of my experience is truly such a deep experience. Trauma is always physical. And that’s where it needs to find healing. 80% of all humans will experience trauma in their lifetime. 1 of 4 women and 1 of 5 men will have experienced sexual trauma. The results are often experienced unconnected to the event. Depressionen, struggle sleeping, anxiety, numbness, shame, feeling unsafe, chronic diseases, auto immune diseases, eating disorders, substance abuse... it’s much closer to you then you think. And it’s crucial to understand how our bodies handle it and how to help ourselves and others on the healing path. We lack a big part in our education and that is how the human experience is shaped through hormones, the nervous system, gut health, brain health and physical diversity. You would be surprised how much we can change if we take charge. And how much of us is just a normal reaction of our nervous system to outside stress. Natural mummification is very rare, requiring conditions of extreme temperatures and dry air to preserve the body. Most mummies that we’ve seen (in textbooks and museums) were mummified with a chemical process called embalming and then wrapped in linen. But Buddhist monks of Japan and Tibet have a unique method of mummification. When the monk is alive, he begins a slow process of starvation and ceases to eat barley, rice, and beans, which add fat to the body. Also, in preparation for death, he runs candles along his skin, drying it out. The monk dies of starvation in a seated pose. Fat putrefies after death, and by removing the body of fat, the monk can be better preserved. Following his death, he is then placed in an underground room for three years, to continue drying out before again being treated with candles. The monk becomes a statue in prayer. Less than thirty of these monks have been found around the world, most on the main island of Japan, Honshu. In 1975 an earthquake in northern India opened an old tomb containing the mummified body of monk Sangha Tenzin. In 2004, the local police excavated the tomb and removed the mummy. The mummy is remarkably well preserved, with skin intact and hair on his head. He died in the seated position, with a rope around the neck and thighs (an esoteric practice recorded in few Buddhist documents). Local lore claims that he asked his followers to mummify him during a scorpion infestation in the town, and when his spirit left his body, a rainbow appeared and the scorpions disappeared. The town is about 30 miles from the Tabo Monastery that dates to 996 CE. The mummy of Sangha Tenzin is now on display in a temple in Gue, two miles from where he was excavated, in the Himachal Pradesh region of India, bordering Tibet. Controlled by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and isolated in the Himalayas. The temple where the mummy rests is open to the public. RishikeshBharat Mandir (Temple) is the most ancient, most sacred, most famous temple in Rishikesh. Temple is located in the heart of the city (middle of the city). Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya reinstalled the presiding deity in the temple on the day of Basant Panchmi in 789 A.D. On this day every year the Shaligram is taken for a holy bath in the scared Mayakund and then carried in a grand procession through the city to be taken back to the temple for the symbolic reinstallation. It is also believed that if any pilgrim on the day of Akshya Tritiya takes 108 parikarmas (rounds) of Lord Shri Hrishikesh Naranyan at this temple and seeks the blessing at his feet (it is only day when Lords feet are uncovered), all his wishes are full filled and it is equivalent to the pilgrimage to Badrinath.The temple is mentioned in Vishnu Puran, Shrimadbhagwat, Mahabharat, Vaman Puran and Narsingh Puran. Lord Hrishikesh known as Shri Bharatji Maharaj is different from Lord Ramas younger brother Bharat. He is known by the name of Bharat because he is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu in Kaliyuga, the preserving force holding Shankh, Chakra, Gada and Padam in his four hands. It is said that the five Pandavas along with Draupadi visited here on their way to heaven. Having stayed here for some period and performed worship of Lord Hirishikesh Narayan.It is sait thet the main temple is named after the Bharat Ram’s brother who meditated here at the time of the Tretayug along wth his other brothers. There is in fact a belief that in the kalyug, Vishnu will be worshipped as Bharat. “The Great Crossing” Would you cross the ocean for your love ? To find the one who’s light holds a dying tree in the courtyard of maladies ? Would you let the stones defy their nature ? raise them to be afloat over these titanic waves ? Will you disturb the entire ocean and force it’s beings to comply to a personal desire ? A voice brimmed from the man, who’s face was calm, washed in a blue hue. It was hard to tell if it was the ocean which gave him the blue glimmer or was it him, which made the ocean looked blue. He spoke in his mind, but everyone who remained in their inner calm could hear it. There’s no “I” in Love. There not even me or you in it. It’s all of us and beyond us, it ties us to an eternal bond of energy, a life force, which moves unhindered between life and death. In that eternity the oceans are so vast that you are but a mere teardrop. A drop fell on the warriors hand, just one, just on him it rained. That’s how they’ve talked in their separation, through the clouds, the rain carrying their hearts messages. The waters started to tremble, the turtles came first and even bigger tortoise, like many kurma’s had come to support this unimaginable feat. Then came the fish, the crabs, scorpions, eels, jelly fish, and rocks and corals which moved freely. Then emerged the great beings of the sea, the dolphins, whales, sharks and giants luminescent squids and Yali, even the rarely seen “prachetas” and the ocean trees “kalpas”in deep meditation rose. The Vanara’s who were setting the rocks over the waves, chanted the ancient hymns of the vasus, the ocean currents. Her light breached through the sky now, she was there in the stones, making them weightless. The ocean had agreed, the bridge had been laid. In reverence of this site the entire army of the forest bend their knees. Some sat in dhyana, in deep meditation. In Love indeed there was no I No me or you, nor this or that. When we are confronted by an ocean, cross it in the name of Love. Kamsa Maya: Raja Ravi Varma, one of the most celebrated Indian artists of the late 18th century has been a huge inspiration for me. Looking through some of his work with the available resources, Kamsa Maya just got me hooked. With the expression of Kamsa, it was hard for me not to give this painting a try. . By this time, I figured out a grid method in order to scale a painting. Being a self-learner, I still remember the maths I did in scaling this painting from a small photographic reference, it was tiring. I think, what really takes me back is the sheer enjoyment and the will to copy his work, to learn from the master. Reflecting on my thought process, I see a theme that was incepted way back in my early teenage. Growing up in a religious household, my fascination with gods was only just, and little did I know that today I would love to embark on the journey to explore Hindu Mythology. This was my 2nd painting in oil, at the age of 15. Apologies for the reflection on the glass, this is the best I could source form the current owner of this painting. . Let us sing Him and play Ammaanaai ! ~ Manikkavasagr’s Thiruvasagam, section 8- Thiruvannamalai, poem 8. In this poem, he sings the praise of the Divine God’s grace making the Vaigai river flood, when the Pandya King punished him to stand in the hot sand of dried up river bed. Thus, God Sokkanathar commanded the river Vagai to flood. Hence, Pandya king has to order his subjects to build flood defenses along the river bank. But, Vandhi( semmanachelvi) an old lady survives by selling puttu ( steamed rice flour dish) in front of the Madurai temple gate, she prayed to the Lord to help her out since she doesn’t have the strength to build, nor have any help. Thus, Great Lord Sokkanathar came as a laborer and made a deal with this lady to build the flood defenses. However, deciding to help both of his devotees, Sivaperuamn ate the puttu, but instead of building anything, decided to take a nap. As the Pandya king came in the evening to inspect the project and saw a small section of river bank was defenseless. Thus, he inspects and find out about the deal made etc. With raging anger, intending to teach a lesson for the lazy laborer strikes him with a cane. To everyone’s astonishment, the entire world, the King, his Queen, his minsters, and the old lady and Mannikkavasagr everyone felt the cane on their back!! The Kedarnath temple is not directly accessible by road and has to be reached by a 16 kilometres uphill trek from Gaurikund. Pony and manchan service is available to reach the structure. According to Hindu legends, the temple was initially built by Pandavas, and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the holiest Hindu shrines of Shiva. It is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, expounded in Tevaram. Pandavas were supposed to have pleased Shiva by doing penance in Kedarnath. The temple is one of the four major sites in Indias Chota Char Dham pilgrimage of Northern Himalayas. This temple is the highest among the 12 Jyotirlingas. Kedarnath was the worst affected area during the 2013 flash floods in North India. The temple complex, surrounding areas, and Kedarnath town suffered extensive damage, but the temple structure did not suffer any major damage, apart from a few cracks on one side of the four walls which was caused by the flowing debris from the higher mountains. A large rock among the debris acted as a barrier, protecting the temple from the flood. DAKSHINA KALI The term KALI sounds so little but carries a huge meaning in it. Kali comes from kala which means time as well as black. She is the one who controls and destroys time. This painting depicts the form of Dakshina kali which we get in her Dhyana mantra(spritual chantings). Later the form in which we worship her today was developed by Sri Krishna-nanda Aagambagish (he first brought the Tantra Sastras in single book named Brihat Tantra sar, he was also the Guru of very famous poet saint Sadhak Ramprasad). Here Kali seats on Mahakala(time, popularly known as the other form of shiva) and as we can see she is engaged in sexual activites. As I told in my earlier posts that like this Kali creates and sustains the world. She carries the universe in her womb(shown in my painting) many texts also says that she is only the universe. Under Mahakala there is Sada Shiva the one who resides on Kailash mountain. He is situated here as a Corpse or dead body, it is the touch of Kali which makes him superior and she is the goddess who makes him God. Even when we worship Shiva Linga(the sex organ of shiva) we find the it emerges from a yoni(vagina) this represents that the strength of Shiva comes from Kali or Devi. Now its time to describe Kali : Kali is black or midnight blue. The colour where all colours blend together. All manifestations desolves in her. Sri Ramkrishna once said u all r far away from kali thats why kali appears black to u Like the water in a lake looks black or dark from far away, get closer and take the water in your hand and its colourless, Kali is just like that she dont have a shape, gender, colour or anything i.e Nirakara(one who is shapeless). If we see Kali in a philosophical way, her red tongue points at us or the society which makes sex or nudity as a taboo or dirty thing where as this is a very natural process and most important for creation. In recent past the feminists found kali as Sexually liberating as instead of massaging her husbands feet she danced upon him(according to the folk stories). . . आदिलशाही राज्यात लपविलेली करवीरनिवासिनी अंबाबाईची मूर्ती छत्रपतींनी पुन्हा मूळ मंदिरात स्थापन केली. पातशाह्यांच्या काळात कोल्हापूर प्रांतावर आदिलशहाचा ताबा होता. या काळात सर्वत्र धामधूम माजलेली असायची. राज्यव्यवस्था स्थिर नव्हती. युद्धप्रसंगी मंदिरांची नासधूस केली जायची. अशावेळी देवीच्या मूर्तीस काही अपाय पोहोचू नये या हेतूने करवीरनिवासिनी अंबाबाईच्या पुजाऱ्यांनी देवीची मूळ मूर्ती मंदिरातून काढून नेऊन कपीलतीर्थाजवळ गुप्त ठेवली होती. पुढील काळात कोल्हापूर प्रांत स्वराज्यात आला. छत्रपतींचे स्थिरस्थावर राज्य स्थापन झाले, तेव्हा वेदशास्त्रसंपन्न नरहरभट सावगावकर यांनी करवीर राज्याचे अधिपती श्रीमंत छत्रपती संभाजीराजे (दुसरे) यांची पन्हाळगडावर भेट घेऊन महाराजांस हा सर्व वृत्तांत सांगितला व आपणांस साक्षात्कार होऊन आई अंबाबाईने आपली मूर्ती मूळ ठिकाणी स्थापन करावी, असा दृष्टांत दिल्याचे महाराजांस सांगितले. यावेळी छत्रपती संभाजीराजेंनी आपले सेनापती सिदोजी घोरपडे - हिंदूराव गजेंद्रगडकर यांना अंबाबाईच्या मूर्तीची मूळ मंदिरात विधीवत प्रतिष्ठापना करण्याची आज्ञा दिली. महाराजांच्या आज्ञेनुसार सेनापती घोरपडेंनी सन १७१५ साली विजयादशमीच्या शुभमुहूर्तावर करवीरनिवासिनीच्या मूर्तीची मूळ मंदिरात विधीवत प्रतिष्ठापना केली. ती तारीख होती दिनांक २६ सप्टेंबर १७१५. तोच हा आजचा ऐतिहासिक दिवस, जेव्हा एक शतकाहून अधिक काळ गुप्तपणे लपवून ठेवलेल्या अंबाबाईच्या मूर्तीची तिच्या मूळ मंदिरात पुनर्स्थापना झाली. छत्रपतींच्या स्थिर व सुरक्षित राजसत्तेचे ते प्रतीक होते. मूर्तीबद्दलची माहिती देऊन आपल्याकडून हे शुभकार्य घडवून घेतल्याबद्दल छत्रपती संभाजीराजांनी नरहरभट यांना काही पेठा व वतने इनाम दिली व देवीच्या नित्य पूजाअर्चेसाठी सावगाव हे गाव इनाम दिले. . छत्रपती संभाजीराजे (दुसरे) म्हणजे छत्रपती शिवरायांचे नातू व छत्रपती राजाराम महाराजांचे सुपुत्र होत. संदर्भ : करवीर रियासत, पान २६४ सेनापती घोरपडे घराण्याची कैफियत. छायाचित्र - करवीरनिवासिनी अंबाबाईच्या मूर्तीचे शंभर वर्षांपूर्वी टिपलेले ऐतिहासिक छायाचित्र. - @kolhapur_darshan on Instagram
