Our brilliant shero Judy visited the Marsden Families Program to give them donations collected during the August Dignity Drive 😍. Our volunteers work hard collecting your generous donations and distribute them to local charities to help those living in crisis. Most of our volunteers say this is their favourite part of volunteering with Share the Dignity, visiting charities and spreading the love of your generous donations. As part of #HungerActionMonth, the Bloustein School’s Graduate Society of Healthcare Leaders put their efforts toward raising donations for @ElijahsPromise Community Kitchen. They gathered food supplies, hygiene products, and clothing items. This past weekend the students met at a local park, donned masks and gloves, and packed more than 100 snack and hygiene bags, as well as bulk items and donations such as rice, pasta, oil, and clothing. They packed three cars full of donations to make the trip over and deliver the items to Chef Curtis and his team at EP. GSHL was also able to make a monetary contribution because of the amazing amount of donations they were able to raise for the #Give5forEP campaign. The mothers who are receiving the benefits of the Wordens green thumbs expressed their gratitude for the bounty. We all appreciate it more than words can describe. Times are very rough right now, and the boxes make a huge difference for our families, said one mother from the Kids Thrive program. Each box contains an assortment of organic vegetables, some of which are new to these families. One mother shared that she brought home vegetables that she had never even heard of before, but said, I cannot wait to learn how to make/prepare some of the stuff, and a peer echoed this, stating, It will be fun finding new things to cook. By getting good food into the hands of our most vulnerable we are providing that support they need to sustain their families through this crisis. When we meet people where they are, and assist in providing their basic needs, we will undoubtedly see them rise above their situation, said Angie Matthiessen, Executive Director of the United Way of Charlotte County. The Kids Thrive moms have already shown this to be true in rising above their past decisions and working diligently toward a better life for themselves and their children. The United Way of Charlotte County wishes to thank Worden Farm, their gracious donors, and the partner agencies that make up Kids Thrive for their dedication to the health and well-being of Charlotte County families. 23rd annual Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock ride was in Campbell River and the Comox Valley on Thursday. This years version looked very different due to COVID-19, complete with social distancing and the like. Normally the ride raises $1.2 million dollars every year for pediatric cancer research and sending kids with cancer to Camp Goodtimes. This year, the goal is $600,000. Huge thank you to individuals, businesses and various first responders for helping with this years event. Random mornings when I get off shift I stop and pick Echo up some of here favorite flowers. There is no special occasion or celebration going on, I do this because I know one of her love languages is gifts (receiving and giving). I also do this to show She is the first thing I think about in the morning when coming home, also Harrison sees his Daddy treating his mommy with love and as we all know kids don’t listen to what you say they copy what you do, so when we walk through the store together and he wants to surprise mommy with something sweet I see he is learning and will pass this on and treat someone else’s daughter like a Queen one day. It’s a simple 5 minute stop at the store that can make a huge impact on multiple people lives. So here is what makes me question the men in this world and how they are being raised and how we are failing. While checking out, there was a different check out lady than my normal I see this early (small town so usually same lady). As I walk up and place the flowers down she says “Long week I take it” I ask what she meant and she said “ Someone get in trouble?” I corrected her and stated no ma’am just some flowers for my wife cause I was thinking about her on the drive home. She said that’s sweet and rare and then finished ringing me up. As I was driving home I started to think about the situation and got a little worked up. It’s BULLSHIT that the history of men buying flowers is only when he screws up and is trying to apologize. This tells me that ladies only get flowers when their man screws up and that the men screwing up outweighs the men buying random flowers for their ladies! Why is it that we have allowed the symbol of love (rose) be know as “We have screwed up and done something wrong to the woman we love” shouldn’t this be completely opposite, shouldn’t we walk into a store as a guy and grab roses/flowers and others look at us and say that’s a good man or he treats her right. So my challenge to all the guys out there that don’t have the courage to buy flowers cause they’re too manly or to the guys that never buy their special lady flowers, Step up and help change the outlook of when men buy flowers. MEET THE TEAM - TESS GRACE 📸➡️ Tess is an architectural graduate who studied in Brisbane, and moved back to Townsville after finishing her studies to enjoy the more relaxed lifestyle. Tess is currently studying to sit the Architectural Practice Examination, and if successful, hopes to register as an architect in the coming months. Juggling study and work with a little one can be tricky at times, but she loves sharing stories of her work with her son Ollie, who is particularly fascinated with concrete mixers. Tess is looking forward to travelling again soon, so that she can tick off a few more of her buildings and cities from her bucket list. Some of her favourites shes managed to visit so far include La Sagrada Familia in Spain, Tokyos Nagakin Capsule Tower and the Colosseum in Rome. Our Manager Library Services, Lisa Keys, joined the Serpentine Historical Society recently at their Annual General Meeting. The Society works to collect, collate, record and preserve the history of the Serpentine, Hopeland, Keysbrook and Mardella areas. As part of the Shire’s commitment to celebrating our culture and heritage, the @mundilibrary looks forward to working with local heritage and historical societies in the future to develop a Community History Collection at the library. The last Friday evening before lockdown we were making Mother’s Day Bouquets. We had no idea how the pandemic would affect us, our gardeners or our social enterprise. We were scared. The tulips were just starting to pop open and we were looking at a field of flowers that would have nowhere to go but the compost heap. 2 weeks into lockdown a friend was desperate to buy some of our flowers, he wanted to help us but he also wanted to take some to Milton Keynes Hospital for the staff. We happily obliged and in that moment #rainbowposies were born! We asked people to nominate a Keyworker and make a donation, their choice and affordable for them. Over 10 weeks we delivered 250 posies. Every Thursday our two teens helped cut and prep the flowers, Friday they helped make the bunches, then my husband and I would deliver them all. From Olney to Buckingham, Wolverton to Woburn we went everywhere. We learnt how to make bunches in under 3 minutes, how to wrap them effectively, how to manage large orders and work out delivery schedules. Flowers had become an essential item after all. For carers, nurses, teachers, midwives, bakers, shop workers, chemists, nursing home staff, ICU staff, health visitors,... they showed how our community cared and valued our key workers. We must never underestimate the power of flowers to express love, to bring joy, to share the care and heal the pain.
