This morning, like so many, I posted a black square in support of Black Lives Matter. Upon further research and listening to black voices in the community I realized this action negatively impacted those very voices who I was trying to support. We don’t need silence, we need action. We need amplification and education. While I believe representation matters and it’s white peoples responsibility to support the black community, I believe this only works if we listen and learn from those voices so we can show support in ways that are the most meaningful, impactful and productive. I also believe it is our responsibility as allies to move forth with humility and admit when we are wrong. I believe I was wrong to post something this morning without doing the necessary research. In life education is everything and this is especially true now. So instead here’s a podcast, book, and film I highly recommend everyone listening to,reading and watching. These are just a few resources that have helped expand my world view and I hope they can do the same for y’all.
