Als ich heute Morgen aufgewacht bin, hatte ich keine Erwartungen an den Tag. Ich habe mich einfach gefreut - auf mich, meine Kinder, meinen Mann, diesen Tag ohne Plan. Auf Geburtstagsmuffins und Pflaumenkuchen und darauf einfach nichts machen zu „müssen“. Keinen Kuchen zu backen, Essen zu kochen, Gäste zu empfangen. Und für die Feier (und für mich natürlich) das Haus zu putzen, zu dekorieren, den Tisch auszuziehen und einzudecken. Ich liebe das sehr - meine wundervollen Freundinnen und meine liebe Familie um mich zu haben - doch diese Vorbereitung bedeutet für mich auch Stress. Und klar, das liegt an meinen Ansprüchen an Perfektion und so. Ich habe es als Kind und Jugendliche erlebt, dass das Haus für Feiern immer hergerichtet wurde (da wurde teilweise sogar der Staub auf den Schränken gewischt 😂), meine Mama stand stundenlang in der Küche und hat Essen vorbereitet. Meine Brüder und ich haben geholfen, so gut wir konnten (und wollten). Am Ende waren es meistens wunderschöne gesellige Abende und der Mühe wert. Das habe ich so übernommen. Und ein wenig konnte ich da die letzten Jahre schon loslassen und doch bleibt dieses Gefühl von Hustle da, wenn ich dran denke „Gäste“ zu empfangen. Heute war es anders. Es ist eine andere Energie hier in den Bergen. Dazu hatten wir perfektes Wetter. Also so richtig. Kurze Hose und Shirt und nur draußen sein und das auf 1060m Höhe. Ein ausgiebiges Frühstück, ein Wildblumenstrauß mit Enzian 😍, Waldheidelbeeren, Vogelsang, Berggipfel, Almfeeling pur. Wir sind spät raus und langsam und achtsam gewandert, haben die Zeit einfach genossen, im Wald gespielt und auf der Alm getanzt. Ich hatte schon viele richtig schöne Geburtstage, doch dieser hier und heute war ganz besonders. Er hat mich ruhiger gemacht und mich so reich beschenkt. Mit Liebe, Lachen, Besonnenheit, Zeit und Aufmerksamkeit. Und einem klaren Sternenhimmel inklusive Milchstraße genau über unseren Köpfen. Happy dog day! This is a shout out to my dear Darby. This girl has been with me through hell and back and couldn’t be sweeter. These past couple of years she’s been slowing down and I can tell her hips hurt quite a bit so psycho mom made her Zen Zoo! - Closing out a 4 day trip in the North Cascades

After a week of virtual school (kids) and six interviews for the #forthelovepodcast (🙋🏼‍♀️), we rented bikes and went ham all afternoon yesterday. . At one point, the kids were all ahead of me (as I was batting cleanup in case anyone went yardsale) through a canopy of aspens just starting to turn yellow, all chattering and whooping and laughing, and I discovered that I was both grinning from ear to ear and bawling. These things can happen at the exact same time apparently. . We can be deliriously happy and unthinkably sad at the same time. We can be full of gratitude and full of sorrow. We can be carefree as a kindergartner and as burdened as we ever imagined. We can love God and be so mad at him. We can adore every single thing we are looking at while suffering over every single thing we are remembering. We can hold tight to impossible mercies and rage over impossible losses. . This is life! Apparently this is life. We get it all. We don’t get the good without the hard. We don’t get the love without the risk. We don’t only get the wins. We don’t only get the losses. We get it all. Our only choice is to hold our hands open to everything. It all gets to come in. It all has to be felt and lived and experienced. This makes up a human life. It also makes for good humans, the real ones, the ones who refuse to live an edited life, only the good half, because the other half is just as real and just as valuable. What a terrible system, but here we are. . Anyhow, don’t get too precious about these pics. I also broke up twelve fights, forced the posse off a steep trail against their will where Remy was just going to “walk her bike up a mile and a half instead of ride,” and brokered a complicated peace treaty over a hostile standoff about water and backpacks. . In late July 2002, a young couple set out on a road trip that would set the tone for the vows they had just taken. Last week @nelstana and I celebrated our 18th anniversary and once again hit the road to celebrate. COVID restrictions didn’t allow us to do the same trip we had done so many years ago but we had an awesome adventure. . First we climbed the Middle Teton, something Tanae and I had an exciting time attempting when we were much younger. This time we were joined by her dad which made the successful climb extra special. . We dropped off her dad and headed north, spent some time paddle boarding and visiting dear friends and family in Montana. They almost convinced us to stay! . The last leg of our trip was to climb Mount Borah, the highest peak in Idaho. It was so special for me to share time in mountains that I love so dearly with the woman I love more. . In the last several weeks Tanae has run 52 miles, backpacked in the winds, climbed the Middle, Borah, and run a 50k (in addition to keeping our three kids happy and healthy and wrangling my silliness as well). We may both be feeling the pressure of a 40th birthday coming up real soon and she has been setting the pace. . We may be more known for trail maintenance but forest restoration is a big part of our organization as well! Today we helped restore closed campsites on Peru Creek Road. This involves a variety of restoration techniques to bring the disturbed area back to life while improving stream health. Most of the campsites were closed due to camping/campfires less than 100 feet from water. We will never forget these times...We had an impromptu escape over to the mountains today, hiked in a quiet, peaceful area, saying beloved & once familiar “hello’s” & “how are you’s” to the few people we distantly passed, then found ourselves at one of the BEST vegan hole-in-the wall restaurants, located in the quaint mountain town. I’m always wavering on my relationship with instagram. Some days I think it’s a waste of time and other days it’s a place for inspiration. Whichever you believe is right. So I’m trying to figure out how to make this platform something beneficial and not just a space to say “look at me”. We all get to experience so much and social media provides a place to share and connect over ideas, passions, and dreams. For me, it’s those around me that fuel me and fill me up even when my cup seems full or empty. At times I can’t help but feel motivated to share my own stories and ventures, in hope that it will pass on the fire to someone else. These past few weeks I have had the opportunity to connect with old and new friends all craving and burning with a desire to do more good in the world. It brings much light to my life and inspires me to do more and keep going. And in the end, I’m not sure it always matters what happened on the journey but instead what you do with what you experienced. Chasing snow storms with friends and living in a van was a dream come true. First, I need to shoutout @adventure_lodge for giving me the opportunity to live out my vision and check another adventure off my bucket list. I am extremely grateful. Now let’s go over all the perks with renting out one of these vans. The van I rented out from @adventurelodge had a complete set up to comfortably live in the van while going on my powder chase. It had a queen size bed set up with underneath storage for mine and my friend’s ski/snowboard gear. Tons of storage! This Mercedes Sprinter had a little kitchen w/ a stovetop, & a mini fridge. The kitchen comes with pots, pans, and dinnerware. Need to shower? There’s even a pop out shower provided! AMAZING. Everything you need to stay comfortable while on the road adventuring! Big mountain free rider, Jeremy Jones, once said, “The attraction of snowboarding is the freedom it gives you. With a snowboard on your feet the sky is the limit. You can do anything and go anywhere.” This quote describes exactly why I love snowboarding so much. Having my feet strapped to my board while sending it through some fresh powder is one of the best feeling. Me & my friends traveled to Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and Montana. I can say the van fit up to three people at a time somewhat comfortably. At least comfortable enough for just hanging out inside a van. Also want to shout out to my homie @coremazmeals for taking care of me while I was on my trip by sending me his meals. Check him out for your meal prep needs!
