Happy Birthday Brian! We all miss you so very much… Ten years ago, I pushed my brothers’ casket into the crematorium. He was a donor, so most of his body was already gone. One thing I’ll never forget though, is seeing just how flat his legs were, slit wide open, his shins were completely removed. However, the tattoo he got on his leg when we were younger to match each other’s was still very much there. As tears rolled down from my eyes, I put my hand over it and told him, “No one ever had a better brother”. My mother, father and I then identified the body and confirmed that it was, in fact, him. My mother could barely speak, and my father was choking up so hard he wouldn’t look anymore. But then two times my mother muttered, “That is my son, that’s my son”. The Funeral Director proceeded to ask if one of us would like to push him in. I replied, “I’m doing it, I am my brothers keeper”. I then watched my mom walk up to his casket, holding the baby blanket she had sewn herself while pregnant with him. She tucked him in to bed one last time, and said, “I’ll love you forever, I’ll love you for always, as long as I’m living, my baby you’ll be! Goodnight Bri-Guy, Mama loves you! “ The Funeral Director then instructed me to push my brother into the next room and to follow him. As he was chanting verses from the Catholic bible, he told me to push my brother all the way down into a very large silver trailer. He then said, “I want you to close the gate all the way down, lock the latch, and hold down that red button for three seconds until you hear it go click.” I must say, the sound of the gasoline hitting the spark and igniting the flames, knowing your only brother is about to turn into nothing more than ash, is something I don’t wish on my worst enemy. Hug someone you love today, knowing tomorrow is NEVER guaranteed. While working for the NY Post, I continued to look for kids playing creatively without adult supervision on the Lower East Side, a neighborhood nearby the newspapers headquarters. At the end of my shift, I often had partially-used rolls of film in my cameras which would be wasted so I tried to find photos to shoot to finish the rolls. そんな時だから、こんな時だから、LAST 2 DAYS SSZの仮店舗 明日は、９月13日日曜日、SSZ仮店舗の最終営業日になります。この仮店舗に対しては、色々な事を考え、思い、取り組んだ。 ただでさえ、厄介なコロナの存在を常に考えて前に進まないと行けない、普通が普通じゃなくなった時に、自分流を貫く事は、時として、自分以外の人に迷惑をかけてしまったりする。 ネット、WEBの販売が、今のこの状況下では、気軽で、便利で、凄く平等に感じる、とても妥当というか、適切な販売方法であると感じたりする時もあるが… 自分は、お店が好きで、そこで、感じる世界観や雰囲気、その場所に行った事で知り合い、出会う事が、意味のあるモノで、凄く好きで、その現場を守りたいと思ったりもする。 数字的、効率とかで、必要ではないような感じには、なって欲しくない。こんな時だから、自分と周りと、 万全の態勢と、思い合う気持ちを大切に、取り組み、 前に進んで行って欲しい。言葉で、書く、言うのは、簡単だけど、大切なモノ、場所は、自分たちで守らないと行けない。 普段は、ビームス 原宿店や、ビームスのSSZの展開店舗の一部にしかない、コーナーが、ビームスを飛び出して、実店舗を構えるぐらいのスタンスで、取り組んだSSZの仮店舗は、こんな時だけど、という思いに、いや、前に進んで行こうという１つのカタチになったと思う。また、自己満足な事を書いていますが、 SSZは、よく分からないモノだかキチッとモノ、コトを接客というか、自然な、会話の中で、伝えてたり、感じたり、考えたり、思ったりする事が大切で、SSZらしさや、よくわからないところを好きになってもらったり、着たいと感じてもらえたらって強く思うところがあって。それが、このインスタであったり、明日まで、営業しているSSZの仮店舗であります。 今は、人と人が会い、話す事にリスクがある。 1人1人が、自分の行動に責任を持ち、色々な人の立場で、考えて、思い合えば、前に進む事は出来ると思う。少なからず、前に動かなくては、駄目になってしまう。ただただ、1日でも早く、ワクチンが出来る事を望み、願うのだが… こんな時だからこそ、ほんの一部の人にでもいい、自分が作ったSSZが人の支えになれたら、 万人受けしない、よくわからないSSZでありますが、自分が、このSSZに対する情熱は、24時間情熱大陸。 そんな思いが詰まったSSZ。いわゆる一つのカタチで出現したSSZの仮店舗。あと2日間、そう48時間、そうなったら、特別に、もう少しでリリースされるSSZ No18collectionの第2弾の2アイテムを先行リリースします。 それは、SSZ BIG DRIZZLERとSSZ 3POP柄CHINO。 この2アイテムは、今シーズンのテーマであるNo18collectionにおいて、通常18番ホールで勝負を決めるゴルフからのSSZで、ゴルフの1ルック組み立てで見る的な、アイテムになる。 ゴルフとは、穴に白いボールを入れて競うジェントルマンなスポーツ。 男なら、人間なら、いや生物なら、穴に入れるという行為は、新しいモノ、世界のスタートであるようなぁ。 あと2日で、SSZの仮店舗は、終わってしまうのですが、ここからが、また、新しいスタートの始まりでもあります。 こんな時だから、そんな時だからこそ、SSZの仮店舗。 お時間ある方、ぜひ、宮下パークへ、 宜しくお願いします。 #ssz #sszの仮店舗 #宮下パーク先行発売 #sszの仮店舗は9月13日まで - @katoyasai on Instagram

Sending birthday prayers to Uncle Joe as he rests in Heaven with our Lord🙏🏼 Today he would’ve turned 97 years old, but God decided his time on this Earth was fulfilled and called him to join his Kingdom on March 6, 2020❤️ We met him and his beloved wife, Aunt Catherine, at the church when we first moved out here in 1997 and they immediately accepted us as family. I remember after every service he’d have us help hand out church flyers and would also have a bag of donuts and candy ready for my sister and I😂 Having served in WWII we would appreciate all the incredible war stories that you just don’t hear about nowadays from someone who’s experienced it. But most importantly, we appreciated his love, his gentleness, his humility, and the sacrifices his family went through as they came to this country from Russia in search of a better life. In that bigger picture he’s on top of an ME109 German fighter plane in 1945 during WWII after they captured their flight plane airfield. A lasting image for me has always been my father’s teeth. He lost all his teeth before he was 50. I think he said that the dentist saw a few loose ones, so he pulled them out. There was always the false dentures, top and bottom sets resting on the table as you ate boiled potatoes and fried liver. At night the Da took out his teeth and dropped them into a red, triangular container that smelled of chlorine. And, of course, one day those false teeth went missing, just the bottom set, the top set was still to be seen on the dinner table. The Da looked all over the house for the lost set but without any luck. He asked all of us “have you seen me teeth”. So, now when he put his top teeth in, the lower lip and jaw made him look a hundred years old. His face lit up with dread when the doorbell rang. He covered this mouth with his hand and said: “I’m not here”. He grabbed the top set of teeth and disappeared behind a door to hide. It was usually the local priest who we nicknamed Father Flash because I got the impression he was on speed. When the door was opened, a smile not like the father’s roared back at me. “A quick word with your Da” bounced out of his mouth. “Ah he’s not here Father, you just missed him” “Ok son, tell him I’ll call back tomorrow, it’s about the Pope’s visit. “Right Father I will” Up the Dubs, and keep the faith” he shouted as the front gate banged and he was off to see someone else. “What did he want, money?” my father asked “No, it was something about the Pope, he’ll call back tomorrow”. The teeth were finally found in Chloe’s box. Chloe was a Yorkshire terrier we had who must have climbed up on the table and then decided to store them for recurring needs. Qualche mese fa confidai ad una mia cara Compagna uninquietudine che nascondevo da molto tempo: Le ore trascorse in carcere furono le più angoscianti della mia vita finora; eppure, col senno di poi, ricordarne suscitava in me autentica nostalgia... Perché? Discuterne con lei mi rassenerò, ma ci volle ancora del tempo prima che la mia nervosa autoanalisi ne venisse a capo. Larresto mi strappò dalla realtà per gettarmi dentro un sistema, la prigione, che aveva come preciso compito quello di annullarmi come essere umano; comprenderlo mi portò ad una considerazione: Il Capitalismo non è un concetto, è un essere vivente e come tale ha un sistema immunitario, il quale aveva riconosciuto in me una minaccia. Mi avevano tolto tutto, pure il cielo, le emozioni ed i vestiti; e proprio da qui lilluminazione... A mancarmi era quella sensazione di riscatto da una vita vigliacca e viziata. Per la prima volta nella mia vita ero LIBERO dalle sicurezze. Finalmente la Lotta dava un significato alla mia vita e lodio nutriva un coraggio mai provato prima. Non avevo fame né sonno ma mangiavo e dormivo, volevo piangere e urlare ma non dimostrai mai emozioni, nemmeno alla telefonata con mio padre davanti a loro. Dovevo Resistere per riconquistare tutto ciò che mi avevano tolto. E poi, quando dovettero liberarmi, il mondo assunse un gusto diverso. I’ve been reflecting a lot about mental health this month...and felt unsure if I wanted to address my own difficulties in this imaginary space...So I will leave this here that during a really low low low part of this year for me mental health wise...of which there have been many...and of which I am not out of the woods...I acquired this tattoo to remind me of the soft and wild soul @hellhuny. She had ‘poet’ poked into her finger, and it’s an image burned in my mind. One I couldn’t shake during some dark days. Someone I think of so often when I want to face the world and be bold and take life in my hands...and especially on days when that feels like too big a task, it has helped me immeasurably in the face of my own oppressive thoughts to find ways to keep on...even if it’s to write a few words down in my notes. It’s the end of #mentalhealthmonth but please know it goes on far beyond these 30 days...check on your friends, tell people you love them, hold space for those that need it, and create healthy boundaries to maintain for yourself. We may not be able to help everyone we wish...but taking a step towards seeing invisible illness as valid is a start. - @realityleaves on Instagram

I have been working on drawings inspired by avoidance and encounter for some time now. I have always believed that people’s behavior in public spaces is more defined by habitual actions, than by the purpose of a space itself. Acting, in a larger sense, provides an opportunity to reshape this cultural background of ours in a more inclusive manner. One might say negative space is what drives us apart, but for me it is what could bring us together, where we could meet. Now the rules have changed and I hope we won’t fill the enlarged void with unease towards each other. Martha Cooper is one of the most important journalists and photographers of graffiti and hip hop culture. Cooper began documenting graffiti art on the streets of New York in the 70’s while working at the ‘New York Post.’ She shadowed the late legendary graffiti artist DONDI and iconic rapper Afrika Bambaataa as well as captured snapshots of Keith Haring and Futura’s subway art in the’80s. At the time, many considered it wrong to glorify vandalism. However, Cooper would take her photography out to the world and help elevate appreciation for graffiti as a form of art. Instead, the train took him in the opposite direction to Jacksonville, Florida. Days later he rode the same train home, arriving back where he started. Nonetheless, it sparked something in him and he began to wander across America by any means that were free – walking, hitchhiking, and train hopping. And the journey begins... I’m so grateful that @cbcpodcasts is supporting me in developing a story that I’ve been wanting to explore for a long time. Years ago, my grandfather shared with me that his mother had a sister whose Blackfoot name, Maa’tai’poyi/Kaa’tai’poyi, translated to “She Doesn’t Speak.” She was unable to speak and was placed in a couple of psychiatric institutions in Alberta because of her disability. We know very little of her time in these institutions and we don’t even know where she was laid to rest. In fact, we don’t even know what her English name was. This part of my great-grandmother’s life was very painful and she spoke very little of her sister. It breaks my heart to think about how isolated Maa’tai’poyi/Kaa’tai’poyi must have felt in these institutions where no one spoke Blackfoot or understood the sign language she used with her family. I hope to be able to do justice to her story and do my best to bring her home. . . I got tested on Tuesday in Standoff and want to give a shout out to the incredibly hardworking frontline staff of Blood Tribe EMS and public health, who are working tirelessly to keep our community safe. Working with the podcast medium for the first time in the era of COVID makes for an interesting journey. I’ll be masking up and doing interviews outside while practicing social distancing and disinfecting all the equipment before and after every interview. . . The first portrait is of my great-grandmother, Nellie Tailfeathers. The second is of my grandfather, Lester Tailfeathers. The third is of Calling First, who I’m told was Maa’tai’poyi’s biological father. She was Nellie’s half-sister so I am not related to Calling First. . . Yellow Belly by Omnipollo, Sweden – Imperial stout brewed with aromas of peanut and biscuit, 11% ABV. Cellared for a couple years. Makes for a nice dessert, but I can’t really recognize the peanut and biscuit aromas. It tastes more like liquid dark chocolate pudding with vanilla sauce. Medium to big mouthfeel with a soft sweetness, medium+ bitterness and light acidity. Lots of vanilla and chocolate aroma and a light alcohol sting. Flavours of sweet, lightly salty black licorice, the bitterness, sweetness and velvety mouthfeel you get in a dark chocolate pudding with vanilla sauce, dark roasted coffee, charred raisins, salmiak, bittering hops, grassy bitterness, resin, dandelions, nut syrup and a light alcohol sting, even after a few years in the cellar. The aftertaste is medium long with notes of dark roasted malts and vanilla. - @beernotes on Instagram
