In 1960, Pakistan struck gold. . A young German missionary nun, Dr. Ruth Pfau, was supposed join her missionary group in India but couldn’t get a visa. She landed in Karachi to apply from here. The process was going to take some time so she decided to explore the city and went to visit McLeod Road with some of the other nuns. At the time, that area was known as “Lepers Colony”. . One visit to that colony and Dr. Pfau decided to make Karachi her home, vowing to bring leprosy under control in Pakistan. She founded the Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre (MALC). In 1996, The World Health Organization declared Pakistan had controlled leprosy making us one of the first countries in Asia to achieve this goal. She went on to open 157 leprosy clinics all over Pakistan and treated over 60,000 people. She even employed recovered leprosy patients who no one else would give jobs to. . In 2014, I rang up MALC with a request; I wanted to shadow Dr. Pfau. She was in her mid 80’s but still going on field visits! I was in awe of her and wanted to spend time with her, get to know her and photograph her. As luck would have it, she agreed. I spent the next several weeks following her around wherever she went and even ended up celebrating her 85th birthday with her. It was an incredible experience. She didn’t speak much, but her eyes and smiles spoke plenty. Everywhere we went, in any corner of the city, at any of her clinics, I could tell how much everyone loved her. Her warmth was undeniable. . After devoting more than 55 years of her life to fighting leprosy and being honoured with all the highest civilian awards Pakistan could bestow on her; Dr. Pfau breathed her last on the 10thof August, 2017. . Although Tobin Ost’s sketch is beautiful, thank God Tom Schumacher, president of Disney Theatrics, vetoed it. And during that journey he made a great picture of a group of horses… that picture is really great and I can’t forget it. What do I like about photography? For me, photography means „Capture Souls“! Distribucion de este fin de semana a las personas mas vulnérables - Compromiso por parte de Gypsea Market Este fin de semana, nos alegro mucho las entregas de despensas que hicimos con mucho amor y dedicacion porque una vez mas, nos comprometimos a ayudar a las personas quienes mas lo necesitan Este sabado hemos visitado a NUESTROS ABUELITOS DISPACITADOS, MADRES SOLTERAS SIN RECURSOS CON NIÑOS PEQUEÑOS Y ADULTOS DISCAPACITADOS de TULUM Se hicieron 2 distribuiciones : 1 en la zona de transicion, en Francisco Humay 1 en el centro de nuestro lindo Tulum. Nos gustaria realmente agradecer una vez mas al señor Presidente Municipal Victor Mas Tah, al Director del Desarollo Economico Mario Cruz Rodriguez y a todos su equipo por haber aceptado una vez mas apoyarnos en ubicar estos lindos abuelitos, adultos descapacitados y madres con niños pequeños, todos sin ningun recurso y tambien por haber apoyado a distribuir estas despensas aun que haya sido un fin de semana feriado.
