Theyre ok! Q Station is known for their scary ghost tours, but last night the fright was real with the North Head fire putting them under threat. It was a relief to hear theyve made it through the night: We are ok!. You may have heard there was a wildfire at North Head last night which came close to threatening Q Station. The wonderful NSW Fire & Rural Fire Service managed to contain the blaze and no damage was done to the property. A massive thank you... we are forever grateful for your service! This month, CMM celebrates its 50th Anniversary! To commemorate how far weve come, well be taking a look back at the museums history all month long.⁠ ⁠ Today, were starting where it all began...⁠ ⁠ The idea of a museum began as a shared vision of a group of local volunteers who recognized that the maritime heritage of their community needed to be preserved and celebrated. ⁠ ⁠ Supported by the Calvert County Historical Society, the museum committee met regularly, researched other maritime museums, sought advice from professionals in the museum field, and began collecting and preserving artifacts and archival items from the community. ⁠ ⁠ On October 18, 1969, the group broke ground for the 24 by 40-foot temporary museum structure on Solomons Island, between John Blusters Pier⁠ One Restaurant and the Solomons Post Office. ⁠ ⁠ One year from the groundbreaking, the museum was dedicated and officially opened to the public with a ribbon cutting ceremony on October 18, 1970. Present at the ceremony to open the museum were Joseph C. Lore Jr., president of the Calvert County Historical Society; William Dovel, volunteer curator of the museum; Jefferson Patterson, benefactor; and many volunteers and other supporters of the project. ⁠ ⁠ Volunteers operated and staffed the temporary museum, open to the public only on weekends. Admission was free, but donations were accepted. La vista desde el Opera House hacia el Harbour Bridge en Sydney. Esta foto es de 2015 (porque... pandemia) y me la topé hace unos momentitos. Fue del momento exacto que fui a esa parte de Sydney por primera vez y no sé si les pasa o soy la única ridícula que llora un poquito cuando va a lugares que realmente quería conocer. Estando ahí, me di cuenta de la lejanía y lo grande que es el mundo. No podía creer que estaba ahí tañ lejos de casa contemplando un icono de arquitectura mundial que tanto había visto en fotos. Se me salieron unas lagrimitas de emoción, como la primera vez que vi la torre Eiffel frente a mí.
