WASHINGTON ā Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who became the courtās second female justice, died Friday at her home in Washington. She was 87. Ginsburg died of complications from metastatic pancreatic cancer, the court said. Her death just over six weeks before Election Day is likely to set off a heated battle over whether President Donald Trump should nominate, and the Republican-led Senate should confirm, her replacement, or if the seat should remain vacant until the outcome of his race against Democrat Joe Biden is known. Feeling very sad and overwhelmingly grateful. Ive always been so inspired by her strength, unwavering grace and the refreshing way shed talk about how being a mom, despite her incredibly demanding career path, gave her both respite, balance and a better sense of what life is. I read her words on what equal rights actually means, and how vital they are to a thriving society, and I truly cant think of a better role model for anyone. I look forward to teaching my 2 year old son all about a real life superhero who lived among us. š¤ -Stef #rbg #rip - @primbotanicals on Instagram

Tonight marks the first time President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden will square off on the state of the economy during this 2020 election cycle. What business owners want to know: Wheres the Phase 4 stimulus bill? Various stimulus efforts, which each promised to extend federal small-business aid like the Paycheck Protection Program, have been held up by partisan bickering over key sticking points such as greater liability protections for businesses and funding for states and localities. Faced with the prospect of continued hardship, small business owners want action, and theyre united about what should happen next. More than two-thirds of small business owners recently polled by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce said that it is more important for political leaders to compromise to get things done, rather than stick to their beliefs in a time of crisis. āJustice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the demure firebrand who in her 80s became a legal, cultural and feminist icon, died Friday. The Supreme Court announced her death, saying the cause was complications from metastatic cancer of the pancreas. - The court, in a statement, said Ginsburg died at her home in Washington surrounded by family. - Our nation has lost a justice of historic stature, Chief Justice John Roberts said. We at the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague. Today we mourn but with confidence that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her, a tired and resolute champion of justice. - Architect of the legal fight for womens rights in the 1970s, Ginsburg subsequently served 27 years on the nations highest court, becoming its most prominent member. Her death will inevitably set in motion what promises to be a nasty and tumultuous political battle over who will succeed her, and it thrusts the Supreme Court vacancy into the spotlight of the presidential campaign. - Just days before her death, as her strength waned, Ginsburg dictated this statement to her granddaughter Clara Spera: My most fervent wish is that i I will not be replaced until a new president is installed. - She knew what was to come. Ginsburgs death will have profound consequences for the court and the country. Inside the court, not only is the leader of the liberal wing gone, but with the Court about to open a new term, Chief Justice John Roberts no longer holds the controlling vote in closely contested cases. - Thats because Ginsburgs death gives Republicans the chance to tighten their grip on the court with another Trump appointment that would give conservatives a 6-to-3 majority. And that would mean that even a defection on the right would leave conservatives with enough votes to prevail in the Obamacare case and many others.ā #Signsofthemarch šøcredit: @sirpennypacker ā #rbg #ruthbaderginsburg #notoriousrbg #scotus #riprbg #ripruthbaderginsburg #ripruthginsburg #supremecourt #womenempowerment #prochoice #thefutureisfemale - @signsofthemarch on Instagram

The death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a fierce and revolutionary advocate for gender equality and reproductive rights, has left behind a complex legacy in the American judicial system. No stranger to sexism herself, in 1972 Ginsburg became the co-founder of the ACLU Womenās Rights Project, which pushes to end gender-based discrimination in institutions in the areas of employment, criminal justice, violence against women, and education. Despite Ginsburgās passionate advocacy for womenās rights, however, she had a complicated record with the BIPOC community when it came to race relations, diversity on her staff, Indigenous rights, and criminal justice. But even with Ginsburgās imperfections and complexities, her vacancy doesnāt mean we canāt try to carry on some of her core values, advocacy, and legacy. There are collective actions that can be taken to advocate both in the areas where Ginsburg fought hardest and where she fell short. People For the American Way President Ben Jealous and Executive Vice President Marge Baker released the following statements in response to the death of Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg: āJustice Ginsburg was a pillar of fairness, justice and equality on the nationās highest court. She inspired a generation of activists, especially young women, who only needed to look to her example for the courage to persist in the fight for justice and equality. No matter the odds, Justice Ginsburg never gave up. She believed to her core that America could be a more perfect union. She was quite simply the definition of an American patriot. While her right-wing peers on the federal bench attacked every aspect of social progress, Ginsburg stood strong and steady in defense of the gains made by the civilizing social movements of our time. She was a pathfinder toward a future of democracy, equality, and liberty. Though her death comes in troubled times, none have done more to plant the seeds of renewal. We have a duty to carry on her legacy and respect her final wishes regarding when a successor should be chosen,ā said Ben Jealous. āWe will be replacing an absolute giant on the Court. We are 45 days out from a critical election and people are voting as we speak. The American people must decide who will appoint her successor. As Justice Ginsburg herself urged in her final words, her āmost fervent wishā is that she not be replaced until a new president is installed. We are heartbroken at her loss, but more galvanized than ever about our responsibility to ensure her legacy is preserved,ā said Marge Baker. #SupremeCourt #NotoriousRBG #SCOTUS #RBG #RuthBaderGinsburg - @peoplefor_ on Instagram

The Innocence Project mourns the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died today from complications of pancreatic cancer at the age of 87. ā ā Justice Ginsburg was the second woman ever appointed to the Supreme Court.ā ā Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a brilliant and principled lawyer, scholar and jurist who dedicated her extraordinary talents to the work of forming a more perfect union,ā said Christina Swarns, executive director of the Innocence Project. āThroughout her extraordinary career, Justice Ginsburg owned her space and, in so doing, she inspired generations of women and girls ā including me ā to do the same. ā ā Justice Ginsburg famously championed womenās rights, calling it a fight for āthe constitutional principle of the equal citizenship stature of men and women.ā She cast important votes in support of reproductive rights, voting rights, and criminal justice, including against the execution of juveniles and people with intellectual disabilities. ā ā āIf I were queen, there would be no death penalty,ā she said during a Columbia Law School panel in 2018. ā ā Justice Ginsburgs relentless pursuit of a more perfect union and her unwavering commitment to justice will perpetually inspire us to pursue freedom for the staggering number of innocent people who remain incarcerated and to dismantle the systemic injustices responsible for such wrongful convictions.ā ā We hold her family, friends, and colleagues in our hearts as we grieve together.ā ā Read our full statement at the link in bio.ā ā š·: AP Photo/Charles Rex Arbogastā ā #RuthBaderGinsburg #RBG #Justice #Equality - @innocenceproject on Instagram

In a striking tribute to the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the iconic Wall Street statue known as the Fearless Girl over the weekend wore a white lace collar similar to one of several collars that Ginsburg traditionally wore as a āgauntletā over her robes, per The New York Times.ā ā The Fearless Girlās new accessory was part of an ad by State Street Global Advisors, the asset management company that originally commissioned the popular statue. In Sundayās edition of The New York Times, an advertisement for the company featured a photo of the Fearless Girl donning her new collar with the words: āHereās to the original.āā ā āWe created Fearless Girl to inspire and promote women in leadership,ā Cyrus Taraporevala, CEO for State Street Global Advisors, said in a statement. Adding a lace collar to the statue was a way to honor āthe remarkable life and legacy of Justice Ginsburg,ā he said.ā ā Ginsburg, a liberal icon and the second woman to serve on the Supreme Court, died on Friday at the age of 87 from complications of cancer. The legendary feminist began wearing her collars along with Justice Sandra Day OāConnor to highlight āsomething typical of a womanā on the male-dominated high court, Ginsburg once told The Washington Post. ā ā The standard justice robe is made for a man, designed to reveal part of the shirt and tie, she said. āSandra Day OāConnor and I thought it would be appropriate if we included as part of our robe something typical of a woman. When the topics for the first presidential debate were announced, climate change was notably omitted which seemed out of touch considering the persistent wildfires raging in California. As news breaks that President Trump will nominate Judge Amy Coney Barrett to fill the US Supreme Court vacancy left by Ruth Bader Ginsburg, we reflect on the enormous uncertainty over the courtās future role in the protection of fundamental human rights. A nominee for Justice Ginsburgās seat on the Supreme Court should be evaluated in terms of their likely impact on access to justice for critical human rights guarantees, including the rights to life, due process, free expression, privacy, health, freedom from arbitrary detention, and freedom from discrimination. The following areas of Supreme Court decision-makingāvoting rights, the right to health, the right to reproductive freedom, and the interaction between religious freedom and other rightsāare only some of the domains in which Justice Ginsburgās replacement could either help to protect or weaken basic rights, with particularly significant impacts on people of color, women and girls, and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. The stakes of the decision before US elected officials are tremendous. We urge senators to thoroughly review any nomineeās record on these and other issues and to question a nominee closely about key rights protections that hinge on the Supreme Courtās jurisprudence. #SCOTUS #humanrights - @humanrightswatch on Instagram

Today, FSFP filed a petition for review with the Supreme Court to begin the process of abolishing super PACs. Abolishing corporate super PACs is essential in the battle for democracy. Lieu v. The duty of the Supreme Court is to faithfully and fairly uphold the laws of our nation, free from political or ideological influence. Thus far, the nomination process for a new Justice has been anything but apolitical, and Judge Amy Coney Barrettās long-running ties to the oil and gas industry and prior record onĀ Ā issues relevant to environment protections make her a concerning choice for a lifetime appointment to our nationās highest court. The functioning of our democracy hinges on ensuring the court remains fair, unbiased, and uncompromised, especially in its judgments on critical climate legislation and its ability to uphold the authority of agencies like the EPA to regulate carbon dioxide as a pollutant. The Climate Reality Project ā and millions of people around the country ā believe we cannot uphold the Constitutionās most sacred promises without bold, ambitious climate action that meets the urgency of this crisis. - @climatereality on Instagram
Catholics are under enormous pressure to denounce Donald Trump. The Catholic vote can decide an election, and liberalsāincluding many high-ranking churchmenāare desperate to discourage the faithful from supporting the most pro-Catholic president in history. It can be difficult to separate fact from fiction when trying to vote according to oneās faith. Catholic āprogressives,ā hoping to advance an agenda at odds with much of Church teaching, try to blur our moral obligations. The famously pithy and provocative Austin Ruse offers refreshing clarity, exposing the dishonesty of liberal Catholics and explaining why the central commitments of the faith point Catholic voters to President Trump. In the book āThe Catholic Case for Trumpā youāll learn: ⢠How Trump has done more for religious freedom than any other president ⢠Why Donald Trumpās character protects Catholics in a culture hostile to religious belief ⢠The false arguments the Catholic Left uses to support the Democratsā radical social agenda ⢠Where the latest culture war battles are being fought and how they affect Catholicsā ability to live their faith ⢠Why supporting President Trumpās re-election should be a priority for all Catholics who take their faith seriously The Catholic Case for Trump is a rallying cry for the faithful and essential to understanding what is at stake for Catholics in the 2020 election. #CatholicConnect #Catholic #Catholicism #CatholicChurch #Jesus #JesusChrist #Faith #BibleVerses #BibleVerse #Christianity #InGodWeTrust #Prayer #Pray #Christians #HolySpirit #Love #Truth #Scripture #HolyBible #God #Church #Christian #Inspiration #JesusSaves #JesusIsKing #Katolik #GodIsLove #SpreadLove #GoodNews #ShowLove - @catholicconnect on Instagram

The casket of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is lying in repose at the Supreme Court on Wednesday and Thursday, a two-day event honoring a justice who was both a cultural and legal icon. As Ginsburgs casket arrived at the high court, former law clerks lined the Supreme Court steps. Supreme Court police officers served as pallbearers. Rabbi Lauren Holtzblatt eulogized Ginsburg as a path-marking role model for women and girls of all ages, who now know that no office is out of reach for their dreams, whether that is to serve the highest court of our land or closer to home for me as the rabbi of their community. Rabbi Holtzblatt, whose husband served as a law clerk for Ginsburg, said the justices lifes work was to insist that the constitution deliver on its promise, that we the people would include all the people. She carried out that work in every chapter of her life. Chief Justice John Roberts said that Ginsburgs life was one of the many versions of the American dream. Ruth used to ask what is the difference between a bookkeeper in Brooklyn and a Supreme Court justice? Her answer: One generation, he said. š·: 1: @claireeclaire Claire Harbage/NPR 2-3: @cheryldiazmeyer /Cheryl Diaz Meyer for NPR 4: @carolguzy /Carol Guzy for NPR - @nprpolitics on Instagram

The president has chosen conservative favorite Amy Coney Barrett as his supreme court nominee.Ā If the name sounds familiar, its because the former Notre Dame law professor has been here before. ⣠BREAKING: Wisconsin āMoversā Voter Purge List Errors ā 39,722 Face Loss of Vote for Moving Despite not Having Moved⣠⣠On September 29, the Wisconsin Supreme Court will hear arguments on whether to require the cancellation of 129,000 votersā registrations on grounds that they have moved.⣠⣠These voters were identified by a so-called āmovers listā and did not respond to a postcard sent by the state Board of Elections. This āmoversā list was obtained from a private entity, Electronic Registration Information Center [ERIC].⣠⣠Until now, no one had tested the list to ask a simple question: Had these āmoversā actually moved?⣠⣠We retained five consulting firms expert in the field of Advanced Address List Hygiene. They analyzed a list of 153,779 voters we obtained from the Board of Elections in June 2020. The list of 129,000 voters subject to the Supreme Court case is a sub-set of this list, but our findings remain, in proportion, unchanged.⣠⣠SUMMARY⣠⣠We found 39,722 Wisconsin voters who supposedly moved from their registration addresses, who, in fact, had not moved, a minimum 25.8% error rate based on the 153,779 āmoversā list.⣠⣠We identified a further 58,404 or 38% who had moved, but only within their county.⣠⣠If even half of these moved locally, the error rate rises to 45.8%.⣠⣠Note: Wisconsin law and the NVRA prohibit cancelling the registration of those who move within their voting jurisdiction.⣠⣠There is measurable bias against voters of color and low-income voters, and evidence of bias against young and student voters.⣠⣠REPORT: WISCONSIN āMOVERSā VOTER PURGE LIST ERRORS⣠⣠The Palast Investigative Fund has created a report of our investigation which has been submitted to the Black Voters Matter Fund.⣠⣠PURGE SEARCH WEBSITE⣠⣠Given that most Wisconsin voters whose right to vote is under threat will have no idea that they are on a purge list, the Palast Investigative Fund has created a website to allow voters to look up their names and addresses to see if theyre on the list.⣠⣠Are you on the Wisconsin Purge List?⣠⣠Find out at: SaveMyVote2020.org⣠⣠#SaveMyVote2020 #WisconsinPurge #VoterPurge #VoterSuppression #ElectionFraud - @gregpalastinvestigates on Instagram
