Last night Cleveland hosted the least dignified, most dispiriting debate of the modern era of American politics.⠀ ⠀ Donald Trump’s strategy appeared to be one of constant interruption to prevent Joe Biden from finishing his sentences. “Will you shut up, man” was the most memorable quip of the evening, coming from an exasperated Mr Biden. But his responses lacked force.⠀ ⠀ Neither candidate landed a knockout punch. Amid the bluster, the most worrying episode was Mr Trumps attempt to sow doubt about the legitimacy of the election.⠀ ⠀ Tap the link in our bio to read The Economist’s analysis of the most significant moments of the debate.⠀ ⠀ Credit: Olivier Douliery/AFP via Getty Images - @theeconomist on Instagram

Tonight marks the first time President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden will square off on the state of the economy during this 2020 election cycle. What business owners want to know: Wheres the Phase 4 stimulus bill? Various stimulus efforts, which each promised to extend federal small-business aid like the Paycheck Protection Program, have been held up by partisan bickering over key sticking points such as greater liability protections for businesses and funding for states and localities. Faced with the prospect of continued hardship, small business owners want action, and theyre united about what should happen next. More than two-thirds of small business owners recently polled by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce said that it is more important for political leaders to compromise to get things done, rather than stick to their beliefs in a time of crisis. There’s an avalanche of tributes to the legacy of #RBG ... here’s my contribution at @ms_magazine and what she meant to me as a GenX Jewish law student and lawyer. I started my career at the @aclu_nationwide women’s rights project back in August 1993 — truly the House of Ruth — which happened to be the same month and year she was sworn in at #SCOTUS. In this essay, l highlight three favorite anecdotes she’s relayed about her ethos ... not only on account of their stand-alone brilliance, but because when considered as a collective, they offer a blueprint for success in the mighty trio of life, love, and the law that she exemplifies. Capped it off with a favorite text from my dear colleague @heysharnold when she had the rare opportunity to hand off to her a copy of #periodsgonepublic and drop some #menstrualequity. Rest in power. These past few days I’ve been honored to see my photographs accompany many stories on the passing of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Five years ago I found myself in the U.S. Capitol building’s grand statuary hall with all three female justices of the Supreme Court to celebrate Women’s History Month. It was the same year that Ginsburg’s vote helped overturn the ban on same sex marriage, and the year before she helped strike down the Texas law restricting access to safe abortion. But this day, she spoke of the first woman to argue before the court, Belva Lockwood, who later went on to run for president of the United States. “Once the door is open, there is no stopping us,” said Ginsburg, who incidentally, had also brought to share a box of home-baked chocolate chip cookies the size of soccer balls. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a towering women’s rights champion who became the court’s second female justice, died Friday, Sept. 18 at her home in Washington. She was 87. Ginsburg died of complications from metastatic pancreatic cancer, the court said. Chief Justice John Roberts mourned Ginsburg’s passing. “Our Nation has lost a jurist of historic stature. We at the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague. Today we mourn, but with confidence that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her — a tireless and resolute champion of justice,” Roberts said in a statement. Her appointment by President Bill Clinton in 1993 was the first by a Democrat in 26 years. She initially found a comfortable ideological home somewhere left of center on a conservative court dominated by Republican appointees. Her liberal voice grew stronger the longer she served. Ginsburg was a mother of two, an opera lover and an intellectual. At argument sessions in the ornate courtroom, she was known for digging deep into case records and for being a stickler for following the rules. She argued six key cases before the court in the 1970s when she was an architect of the women’s rights movement. She won five. “Ruth Bader Ginsburg does not need a seat on the Supreme Court to earn her place in the American history books,” Clinton said at the time of her appointment. “She has already done that.” Link in bio for more on her life. 📸 = Patrick Semansky/AP File Photo #rbg #ruthbaderginsburg - @aldotcomnews on Instagram

For all of you that elected Donald Trump or didn’t vote for Hillary in 2016, I just want you to know that you deserve what is about to happen. And the sad part is you will be fine. Those that need Ruth Baden Ginsburg the most will suffer. ‼️UPDATED POST BELOW POST-RAGE‼️ @magdalenaonfire It feels like losing the real life General Organa. And it *fucking hurts.* But how many of us grew up in the shadow of Leia and grew into our confidence and strength inspired by our Princess General? And how many *more* of us (and our daughters and nieces) grew up and will grow up inspired by The Notorious RBG? I dont think theres any better legacy than a woman who spent a lifetime guided by intelligence, compassion, and justice to be remembered as one of the most important voices of her generation. I know one thing to be absolutely certain: nobody would be more disappointed in us for sitting out or giving up than RBG, especially when so much is so hard right now. Not this year, not next year, and not ten years from now. She was 87 years old and spent her lifetime working to better the lives of others. May we all take that eloquent lesson and make it our own story. #riprbg #ruthbaderginsburg - @glassbattles on Instagram

Protesters opposed to replacing U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg before the presidential election marched through downtown Salt Lake City on Saturday.⠀ ⠀ The march — from the federal courthouse near 400 S. West Temple to the federal building at the corner of 100 South and State Street — happened hours before President Donald Trump announced his latest nomination to the Supreme Court. Protesters took aim at Utah’s two senators — Republicans Mike Lee and Mitt Romney.⠀ ⠀ “What do we see? Hypocrisy!” the marchers chanted as they walked on 100 South.⠀ ⠀ Multiple speakers pointed out how the Republican senators plan to vote on Trump’s nominee before Election Day but refused to do likewise for President Barack Obama’s nominee in 2016.⠀ ⠀ “The only thing worse than fabricating a rule to serve yourself,” said 24-year-old Abby Draper, one of those who took a microphone to address the 75 or so protesters, “is abandoning that rule four years later to serve yourself!”⠀ ⠀ Visit our profile link to learn more about the protest and Trump’s new Supreme Court nominee. 5 inspiring things you may not know about the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg:⁣ ⁣ ◽️ She was the first Jewish woman to serve on the US Supreme Court and, for a few years of her 27-year term, was the only woman of the 9 justices.⁣ ⁣ ◽️ Before becoming a Supreme Court Justice, she co-founded the Women’s Rights Project at the ACLU and argued 6 gender discrimination cases before the Supreme Court between 1973 and 1976, winning 5.⁣ ⁣ ◽️ She was an advocate for equal pay, gender discrimination protection, and for women making their own health choices.⁣ ⁣ ◽️ Her death on 9/18/20 coincided with the eve of the Jewish New Year.⁣ ⁣ ◽️ When asked how she wanted to be remembered, she said as someone who “helps repair tears in her society, to make things a little better through the use of whatever ability she has. - @delunecare on Instagram

Today I woke up thinking, “What would RBG do?” Keep waking up. Do something outside yourself. EVERY DAY. Let us honor her not by thinking of filling her seat today but by honoring the feats she overcame. (And then make sure her seat is filled with a heart as big as hers.) Our decisions, our actions can create a positive revolution and therefore celebrate her legacy. It will take time but we can do it! “Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time.” And, although, it feels like the hits keep getting harder🥺💔 it is true that TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER. Corona look of the day: or my homage to Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Dissent in power. Seated in my manual wheelchair in the dining room studio with a white backdrop, I have on a black 3/4 length sleeve wiggle dress with black gloves and a silver collar. The @uniquevintage black dress is a favorite because it looks fabulous hugging my curves while also providing stretch to be comfortable to wear throughout the day. I’m wearing a silver choker unhooked to form a dissent collar in honor of the life and work of Supreme Court justice #RuthBaderGinsburg. As she wore gloves daily on her dainty hands, I rocked the same. To complete my #RBG aesthetic, my hair is parted hair and pulled back, my make-up is muted with nude lip #PureHollywood by @anastasiabeverlyhills, and I have on @sarapalmer4747’s old slim square metal frames glasses. I’m tired, my heart is tired from the loss this year. Tonight, I’m sending my love to #RBG, a profound legal scholar who shaped the way I thought about constitutional law as a law student. Her dissents brought life to law in ways that are validating and humanizing to many. She devoted her life to law. Though she was not perfect with her white feminism showing, her overall opinions have opened doors and created protected rights for many marginalized people. As is the state of 2020, I’m honestly terrified of what’s next. An expeditious confirmation process of a disgusting human would not surprise me. We need to organize and vote and ensure this monster stops. It’s all too much. #covidart #disabiltystyle #disabilityfashion #disabilityrepresentation #cripthevote #ruthbaderginsburg #ripruthbaderginsburg #dissentcollar #ableism #coronaeugenics #eugenics #bodylove #bodyliberation #lovedisabledbodies #lovedisability #loveisresistance - @disabethany on Instagram

President Trump is set to announce his nomination to replace Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg today. Last night, our board of directors adopted a resolution urging the Senate to delay a vote on the Supreme Court nomination until after the next president is inaugurated. This isnt about any particular nominee, but the Senate’s process to assess a nominee for confirmation. Any Supreme Court Justice will have a lasting impact on civil rights and liberties for decades. An adequate vetting process of a nominee requires time and careful deliberation. Under the circumstances, that cannot be accomplished before the election. Rushing the Supreme Court Justice nomination process could threaten the legitimacy of the Court’s crucial role in our democratic system.  Head to aclu.org/delay_scotus to join us in urging the Senate to delay this vote. - @aclu_norcal on Instagram

Thank you, #RBG. You are a true legend. ・・・ The death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg today represents a devastating loss. The 87-year-old was an icon of women’s rights, a bulwark protecting abortion rights and a wide range of other progressive ideals on a conservative Supreme Court. The Brooklyn-born jurist became one of the nation’s foremost advocates against gender discrimination as a lawyer for the ACLU, decades before President Bill Clinton appointed her to be the second woman to sit on the high court.⠀ ⠀ “But her passing less than two months before the presidential election also tosses one more lit match into the tinderbox of national politics in 2020: It will surely inflame a deeply polarized country already riven by a deadly pandemic, a steep economic downturn, and civil unrest in its major cities,” Russell Berman writes.⠀ ⠀ “President Donald Trump will be eager to fill Ginsburg’s seat immediately, seizing an opportunity to rally his base before the election and to cement his legacy in the event that he is defeated in November,” Berman continues. But Ginsburg made her own desire clear in the days before her death, NPR’s Nina Totenberg reported today. She dictated a statement to her granddaughter that read: “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”⠀ ⠀ Read more at the link in our bio. ⠀ ⠀ 📷: Charles Dharapak / AP⠀ - @oldtowntap on Instagram

Just before midnight last night, the Administration narrowly submitted a proposal for a FY21 refugee ceiling of 15,000. This will be a new record low for our nation. Unnecessary delays in continuing the U.S. refugee resettlement program in FY2021 means families will remain separated, religious minorities will continue to live at risk of persecution and unrest and displacement will continue to exacerbate vulnerabilities for women and children in particular. WASHINGTON — Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who became the court’s second female justice, died Friday at her home in Washington. She was 87. Ginsburg died of complications from metastatic pancreatic cancer, the court said. Her death just over six weeks before Election Day is likely to set off a heated battle over whether President Donald Trump should nominate, and the Republican-led Senate should confirm, her replacement, or if the seat should remain vacant until the outcome of his race against Democrat Joe Biden is known. Do you see the Josef Albers painting behind RBG? When I taught Color Lab at Parsons I always told my students about how the Justices can choose any artwork from the Smithsonian to hang on their chambers walls. Ginsberg chose an Albers. The square paintings are about how colors change in relation to other colors, how color is never in isolation. It is the same with people, with the law- there is always context, we live in community, not in isolation. Rest In Peace And Power Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the demure firebrand who in her 80s became a legal, cultural, and feminist icon has died from complications from cancer. Just days before her death, as her strength waned, Ginsburg dictated this statement to her granddaughter Clara Spera: My most fervent wish is that i I will not be replaced until a new president is installed. Architect of the legal fight for womens rights in the 1970s, Ginsburg subsequently served 27 years on the nations highest court, becoming its most prominent member. Her death will inevitably set in motion what promises to be a nasty and tumultuous political battle over who will succeed her, and it thrusts the Supreme Court vacancy into the spotlight of the presidential campaign. “Justice Ginsburg personified the best of what it meant to be a judge. She brought a deep intellectual and personal integrity to everything she did. Her powerful and unyielding commitment to the rule of law and to equal justice under law place her among the great justices in the annals of the Court. She was also one of the most impactful lawyers of the twentieth century, whose historic work advocating against gender discrimination and for equal rights for all opened doors for countless people and transformed our society. She was an inspiring and courageous human being. We have lost a giant.” —Dean John F. Manning ’85 - @harvardlaw on Instagram

Judge Barrett has a strong record of commitment to the rule of law and carefully considering the text and history of the Constitution. When Judge Barrett was first nominated by President Trump, she expressed her view that judges are not policy makers. I couldn’t agree with this more. Judge Barrett’s record backs this up and she reiterated this to me today during our meeting. It’s personally gratifying to me that we have a nominee before us who is a strong, female jurist and a working mother who is able to successfully balance her life. Judge Barrett is exactly the kind of role model our daughters and our granddaughters need. Ultimately, the most important factors in my decision to confirm a Supreme Court nominee are whether the nominee is well-qualified, has a record of applying the original text of our Constitution, and has the support of my fellow West Virginians. While we are still in the beginning of the confirmation process, Judge Barrett meets the criteria. She’s a fair-minded individual that understands and respects the responsibilities of a Supreme Court justice, and I look forward to watching her confirmation hearings in the coming weeks. In the meantime, I implore my colleagues—and really the rest of the nation—to consider this: while Judge Barrett has traveled a journey that not many of us have had the chance to do, we should use this as an opportunity to inspire that next generation, and we should be proud of the fact that we have an accomplished woman to consider to serve on our nation’s highest court. 🏛 - @sencapito on Instagram

OK guys, before you read on and before you swipe, Do you know who this couple is??!!. . . Their names are Mark and Patty McCloskey! If that doesn’t ring a bell, then I’m sure the iconic picture that made headlines of them protecting their house with guns will! Swipe⬅️! On June 28 they were having dinner with their family when hundreds of BLM and Antifa protestors approached their house. And just like the God fearing, gun toting people that they are, they went outside to protect their family and home. Because of the incident, they made news and headlines everywhere!! Well today I had the opportunity to meet them in person and listen to them speak! They told the whole story of that eventful day and the days that followed. I was gonna video it all but my phone died, hence the reason for this late post. I’ll talk about it in stories! But they are two really great people and I have so much respect for how they stood up to evil that day. They took full advantage of their 2nd amendment right and the right to protect themselves, and were told they were wrong for doing so. They have been slandered and ridiculed, charged with all kinds of felonies and face up to 4 years in prison..........for protecting their home and their family😡. How screwed up is that? But this could happen to any of us. This could happen at any of our homes. We need to be ready and prepared. We need to fight to keep our 2nd amendment and vote the right people if office to do so! . I’m so glad I went today! I honestly had so much to do but when I got word of this, I was like it can wait! I’ll never get these moments back. I’m so thankful I’m living this out and not just watching it on tv! It’s all a part of history! Also thankful I got to meet two normal people that are fighting the good fight and being true advocates for our 2nd amendment right! . “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸. @bowlife_levi @donaldjtrumpjr @realdonaldtrump #2ndamendment #america - @samantha.jo.morgan on Instagram

- @guvern.ro on Instagram

As my interpreter of daily politics @maddowshow would say: ‘Eyes Open’ Have been feeling that heavy feeling for days since the news broke of Justice Ruth’s passing... and I’m not exactly a religious type... but I’m praying her legacy lives on, and that somehow, a worthy successor will be appointed. #justiceruthbaderginsburg #notoriousrbg #women #womenarepower #womencreatingchange - @hickeyhardware on Instagram

💔I think so many women don’t realize that the freedoms they have is all because of RBG. Without her we wouldn’t be able to have our own checking accounts, debit or credit cards. We wouldn’t be able to sign leases, own homes, pay rent or purchase cars. If you’re a single woman, never married, divorced or a widow, imagine how difficult life would be right now. And it’s not just the women, RBG championed for everyone. Fathers who are solo custodians of their children also have many rights that they would not have if not for her. And this is just the very tip of the all of her accomplishments... but suffice it to say, 90% of us wouldn’t be where we are right now without her. And so, no matter where you stand politically, this is about all of us and basic human rights... 💔 Image Regram from @mallyskok - @gimletstyle on Instagram

President Trump has nominated Amy Coney Barrett, hailed by religious conservatives as an ideological heir to Antonin Scalia, to fill liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s Supreme Court seat. ⠀ ⠀ Here are some things to know about Barrett:⠀ ⠀ At just 48, Barrett would be the youngest justice and her tenure could last for decades. Barrett was considered to be a finalist in 2018 before Trump nominated Justice Brett Kavanaugh for the seat vacated when Justice Anthony Kennedy retired. ⠀ ⠀ Liberals say Barrett’s legal views are too heavily influenced by her religious beliefs and fear her ascent to the nation’s highest court could lead to a scaling back of hard-fought abortion rights.⠀ ⠀ Barrett has worked as a professor at the University of Notre Dame and first became a judge in 2017 when Trump nominated her to the 7th Circuit. ⠀ ⠀ Barrett was raised in New Orleans and was the eldest child of a lawyer for Shell Oil Co. She has seven children, including two adopted from Haiti and one with special needs.⠀ ⠀ Click the link in bio to read more. ⠀ #APPhoto Alex Brandon @alex_brandon - @apnews on Instagram

A brilliant women who was first in her class...but, initially, couldn’t get a job because of her gender...tirelessly worked towards and was the architect of a whole new way of thinking...equality under the Constitution. A tireless advocate of civil rights...women’s equality...voting rights...and all the while, known as a bridge builder with others who were ideological opposites. She used the law as a liberating force and represented the very best of the American tradition. She believed that this country was best when we extended a hand rather than a clinched fist. Her passing is a loss for this nation and all who believe that American history can be redemptive. Rest In Peace Supreme Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Words can’t possibly express my incredible sadness for this heartbreaking loss. . Justice Ginsberg said she would like to be remembered as someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability. . Shell undoubtedly be remembered for that, and as a trailblazer, an icon, and an American shero whose commitment to justice and historic legacy of devotion to equality and the rule of law must be cherished and protected. . Her passing is devastating on so many levels, but tonight we say thank you, thank you thank you Justice Ginsberg, and rest in peace. - @sheilakuehl on Instagram

#RBG #RestInPower #feminismo #feminism - @womens_link on Instagram

May her memory be a blessing. May her memory be a revolution. Regardless of what happens in the Senate the next week, we fight like hornets now, and in the future to honor the ferocity of Ruth Bader Ginsberg. Throughout her career her tenacity and intellect advanced the cause of dignity and humanity for all people, and fair treatment under the law. May her memory be a revolution because we can’t control what others do, but we can control what we do. How hard we fight pushing forward an agenda which benefits all our neighbors. Voting is the start, helping others vote, joining campaigns, giving money, volunteering to get the message out. All these things first, but voting is not enough. It’s the beginning, not the ending of what we do now. Get involved, read, listen to and learn from others, use your platform to advocate for all your marginalized neighbors. Use your platform to advocate for positions which strengthen your community. Use your platform to protect the people who need protecting. May her memory be a blessing. May her memory be a revolution. - @icecreamgracies on Instagram

Yesterday, I said goodbye to Justice Ginsburg. It was a true honor to know her & a privilege to argue cases before her on the Supreme Court. Because her incisive, piercing, penetrating questions cut to the core of the issue, I can tell you that I respected nobody more on that court. Honorable Supreme Court Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg aka #notoriousrbg . Her image captured leadership, elegance, poise and a never give up attitude. We all should be as bold - stand for what you believe and fight for what matters. Remember the impact you have on others and how you make one feel will always outlive what you said and what you did. Repost @nytopinion with @get_repost ・・・ “It helps sometimes to be a little deaf.” That advice, given to Ruth Bader Ginsburg by her mother-in-law, helped her succeed in both life and law. “When a thoughtless or unkind word is spoken, best tune out,” the Supreme Court justice wrote in a 2016 Op-Ed. “Reacting in anger or annoyance will not advance one’s ability to persuade.” Ginsburg died on Friday at the age of 87. I’m back in D.C. this week to continue fighting for a Payroll Support Program (PSP) extension. Yesterday, airline leaders stood on Capitol Hill to ensure our voices are heard, and this morning I underscored the importance of this extension with @morningjoe and @flyingwithSara. Congress is rightfully focused on honoring the remarkable life and legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and how to move forward. But we know that isn’t the only challenge our country is facing. This is a high-stakes moment for our nation and our government. Congress has one week left to come together and take action to pass a COVID-19 relief package and extend PSP.
