Today we stand with the live events industry in a global day of action to call for more government support with #WeMakeEvents. To make one Bodega show happen, we rely on artists, tour managers, sound and lighting engineers, venue management, bar staff, ticketing teams, security and loads more that work from early hours until late into the night. Multiply all those staff members by thousands, with venues of all sizes scattered across the country. Without these venues, bands like @arcticmonkeys, @thexx, @wolfaliceband and @easylife might never exist, as well as the thousands of other amazing bands that have passed through our door in the last 20 years. Without major and immediate financial support there will be more job losses, businesses lost and catastrophic damage to the industry as a whole. The war of attrition waged between my daughter and I is a lively and ongoing affair. Today, a simple request, “Turn off the TV” met with a roll of the eyes so pronounced I questioned whether her pupils would ever see daylight again without ophthalmological intervention. This was followed by the usual chorus of “I’m boreds” and “What am I supposed to do nows”. Knowing that in her more even-tempered moments she likes to make little books, I said “Write me a story. About a cow. That’s your brief.” She stormed off in a huff, an air of vindictiveness about her. Approximately four and a half minutes later she returned with this magnum opus. It’s a very emotional time for me leaving Lonely Kids Club’s home after over 4 years and moving somewhere new. When we moved in here the brand was still only about 10 products and now it’s over 100.. It’s weird to leave the place it all started but it’s an exciting new chapter in our story. We will be able to finally expand to bigger and better things there like faster production speeds, and have our own photography studio! Above all though we will have a long term home for the future. I never really spoke about it but part of the agreement of our current space was we could essentially be kicked out with 2 weeks notice at any moment with impending potential demolition always looming over my head. Thanks so much for accompanying with me for this journey all these years, it genuinely means the world and you guys are why I continue to do this. Two nights ago, I was suddenly overcome with being homesick. The funny thing was, I was missing my family in California AND I was missing Chicago and my family of friends there. All at the same time. It was a weird feeling for sure. Two be homesick for two places at the same time. This photo is of my first small house/store front/found space theatre production of Lysistrata Jones with a dream artistic team @justin_brill_prof and @shannavdance and @annabelleleerevak and an incredible cast. It truly was one of my favorite theatrical experiences because that show taught me so much. I grew as an actor, I embraced and gave life and meaning to a character that was probably the hardest character I’ve had to play thus far, and the cast of Lyssie J became family. California is my home, and Chicago will always be my second home. I will always be grateful for the career I had in Chicago, for the friends I made, and the memories shared. I hope to go back and visit soon or even do a show! But until then.. I’m excited for the opportunities that await me in NYC, even during a pandemic. Jeśli ktoś się kiedyś zastanawiał jak powstaje ilustracja, to służę odpowiedzią (przynajmniej tak to wygląda w moim przypadku, kiedy robię nie-projektową ilustracje). . Wszystko zaczyna się od szkicu na kartce. Mimo że Photoshop daje nieograniczone możliwości do korygowania szkicu na bieżąco i nie trzeba rysować wszystkiego od nowa, rysowanie na papierze daje zupełnie inny feeling. Kompozycje wydają się bardziej organiczne i nabierają w tajemniczy sposób pewnej duszy (to jest bardzo skomplikowana akcja, wytłumaczenie tego to jakieś dobre 10 minut) . Następnym krokiem, po dojściu do harmonijnej kompozycji i sensownego rozkładu ciężaru, jest przeniesienie tego programu. . Po wymyśleniu designu postaci (też zazwyczaj na kartce) trzeba go dość żmudnie zastosować, kontrolując czy od początku nagięta anatomia nie zaczyna się walić. . Później następuje kolor, a po nim tuningi i detalingi . Mam nadzieję, że zaspokoiło to czyjąś ciekawość, pozdrawiam serdecznie #workinprogress #illustration #process - @bartoszsiejak on Instagram

🎐🍱Strange Weather in Tokyo Review - ⭐⭐⭐️.5/5 🍜⛈ Ive been wanting to check out more Japanese literature so I was excited when Naomi offered me the chance to lead two readalongs for Kawakami month! Strange Weather - where to start? First of all, I should mention that Ive never been a fan of teacher-student romances, and yet Kawakami managed to lull me into the slow-burning love story of Tsukiko and Sensei. Upon some reflection, my upbringing probably has something to do with this aversion. Social hierarchies are more prominent in Asian cultures whether by age or social position so you can imagine what cross-hierarchy romances do to this set up - in the case of Tsukiko and Sensei, both apply. Weirdly enough, it was this discomfort that drew me deeper into Tsukikos narrative: all the hesitations, the confusion, the denial, the semi-existential crisis in the identity department - I get it. It seems very realistic to me! How Kawakami managed to convey such complex feelings through a simplistic and withholding writing style I have no idea, but I guess this is the beauty of Japanese literature. They seem to be the master of subtlety, expressing lots in so little. (Or maybe this is just a side effect of translation? If you read Japanese literature in the original language, please do let me know!) One of the things from this book that is having a lasting impression on me is the concept of a relationship based purely on the premise of love. As an idealist, I have always stood for these kind of values, however Strange Weather has definitely made me question how far I am willing to go to uphold them, and honestly, I think Ive been humbled. Standing by the cliff edge, I dont know if I would have it in me to make the same leap that Tsukiko does, but I guess with uncertainty comes a whole world of possibilities too. Oh, and the last few lines of the book absolutely destroyed me. 💔 Thank you @tandemcollectiveuk and @grantabooks for my #gifted copy! Will tag the wonderful bunch who shared this ride with me below.
