To our valued customers, One of our staff members has unfortunately tested positive for COVID-19. They are at home, feeling well, and we are in regular contact with them to make sure that they are ok. We have been assured by the BC Health Authority (BCHA) that the chance of transmission to staff and customers is extremely low. This is because of our strict adherence to all protocols issued by BCHA including physical distancing, stringent cleaning, mask wearing and providing hand sanitiser. Our staff member; • Did not interact with any customers • Had no symptoms while at work • Wore a mask, and practised stringent hand hygiene at all times. In the highly unlikely event that customers need to be contacted regarding this case, BCHA will do this via our contact tracing register. In the spirit of ending our @Kickstarter campaign with a bang, were thrilled to be sharing some big news! Weve been promising to share this announcement since we reached 400 backers, but that number was quickly surpassed and we were in the position of needing to catch up to you all. Enchanted Lion is pleased to announce the launch of a new imprint called Unruly, which will create space for stories that defy the rules and exist outside of the existing classifications of age group and genre within the childrens book world. We believe that the possibilities for the illustrated book are larger than these classifications, and have seen firsthand through our many years of publishing books in translation that picture books from other countries and cultures dont always fit neatly into them. Unruly will be a home for illustrated books that reflect on and respond to complex and subversive themes, and therefore may better suit older readers. The first title published under Unruly will be THE TRUE STORY OF A MOUSE WHO NEVER ASKED FOR IT by Ana Cristina Herreros and Violeta Lopiz (one of the illustrators of beloved title THE FOREST alongside Valerio Vidali). Last week, Violeta shared a preview of this conceptual and visually stunning tale, which explores themes of gender identity and feminism, here on our Instagram. In the midst of World Breastfeeding Week, we had our first, in person, socially distanced, Doula drop-in and parent support circle. Im so excited for the coming weeks. Amongst general talking and sharing of knowledge and experiences, we discussed about the challenges of breastfeeding, being pregnant and giving birth in a pandemic and some of the things we wished wed known before pregnancy and birth. I gave an impromptu breastfeeding session, I know, I simply cant help myself 😉 and four Emmas Diary packs were given out (we are hoping to have more in the next few weeks). Come, grab yourself a cuppa and, maybe even treat yourself to something nice to eat. Its every Thursday morning, with me, a fully trained, qualified and experienced Doula and Birth Coach, Im also a Breastfeeding Peer Support Worker. I feel like budgeting has such a negative connotation. People feel that it’s restrictive, time-consuming or only needs to be done if you are in debt. However, have you ever gotten to the end of the month or even year and wondered ‘where the heck did all my money go?!’ I feel like everyone has at some point. If so, it’s because you need a budget 🙃 While having a budget doesn’t mean cutting out everything, it does mean spending your dollars more intentionally. Don’t you want to make sure that your hard earned money is going towards things you actually want to go towards? I recently read an article that said Ed Sheeran only spends an average of $1k/month. He said that he doesn’t want to be wasteful and wanted to make sure that lifestyle creep did not happen to him. Can you imagine being worth over $250MM and spending only $1k/month 😱. Kristen Bell spent under $200 on her wedding...Mila Kunis got her wedding ring on Etsy. If some of the richest people out there can spend intentionally and on the things that matter to them, so can we😊 I spent some time this week building out a personal budget tracker that I want to share with everyone for free! I still need to work on how to get that little link in my profile, so feel free to send me any tips😂 While I do that though, let me ask – is there anything that you think would be particularly helpful in a personal budget tracker? Right now I want to say ‘Thank you’. We have honestly never had so many enquiries as we are having now. 🙏 The fires were a tricky time, so is COVID. The hardest thing to swallow during that time was watching my crew have to seek other employment for what was, as I call it, ‘The Pause’. Quite simply, I had no work for them and it broke my heart. 🙏 The Pause gave me personally, a lot of time to reflect. I watched (and still am watching) many local businesses close as a result of ‘The Pause’. Our town greatly relies on tourism to provide jobs and therefore to support our own little economy. With international (and interstate) tourism completely stopped for now, we rely even more on trade to local businesses to keep the cogs turning. 🙏 Spending local, means the buck stays here to support other businesses. The local chemist, cafes and corner store, newsagent, restaurants, hairdresser, gift stores, dentist, drs, florists, beauty therapist, trades ... the list goes on. It ensures more jobs are available locally. Ensuring that locals can work reasonably close to home, whilst still raising their families. 🙏 It has given me great pleasure and a huge amount of relief to be calling my crew over the past few weeks into work. I look at the calendar next year with a great deal of hope for the future of our town, knowing that as a destination, weddings bring jobs to other local suppliers, venues, caterers, hair and makeup artists, musicians, celebrants, photographers, florists ... the list goes on.... but essentially the result is the same, it keeps this town going. 🙏 With that in my mind, I am incredibly proud to say. Penny Lane Studio is a 100% owned and managed local Blue Mountains business. We employ local crew and recommend and support other local businesses. I am incredibly humbled to be able to support in my own tiny way our little economy and to provide local work to a damn lovely bunch of people.
