Artistic Practice in a Post Great Depression England The Great Depression and the economic slump that followed changed how art was thought of within a social dimension. Between the years of 1929 and 1934, the slump created a crisis for the cultural consumption of modern art. The economic crisis saw a re-evaluation of the value of art within society and its contribution toward the economy. The Depression saw two significant immediate effects on British art. Como todos sabéis, la Asturias Tattoo Expo es una convención que tiene lugar en la ciudad de Gijón dentro del marco del Festival Metrópoli en el Recinto Ferial Luis Adaro. Dicho festival en su formato habitual, tiene una duración de una semana y un público asistente aproximado de 20.000 personas diariamente. Debido a la delicada situación que estamos viviendo a raíz de la crisis mundial por la COVID19, el Festival Metrópoli ha adaptado su formato y regresa a la ciudad de Gijón convertido en el Metrópoli City, una edición totalmente distinta que se extenderá durante los meses de julio, agosto y la primera quincena de septiembre, donde los conciertos tendrán lugar en distintos espacios más pequeños y con aforo limitado, diseminados por toda la ciudad. Nos encontramos ante un escenario muy diferente, con un cambio de recinto, así como muchas restricciones que afectan doblemente a un evento como el nuestro. Para nosotros la seguridad y la salud tanto de los profesionales que trabajan en la convención como del público que pueda venir a visitarnos o a tatuarse, es lo principal y en ningún caso interpondremos esto a nada. Por todo ello, hemos decidido cancelar nuestro evento para esta edición 2020. Esta situación es tremendamente complicada para nosotros ya que nos vemos afectados todos, desde profesionales del tatuaje, distribuidores, proveedores, staff, la organización del Festival Metrópoli y por supuesto el público, no pudiendo realizarse tal como se plantea en este nuevo formato. James Reynolds captured the drama, excitement, action and even the chaos of a buffalo hunt by a group of mounted Plains Indians who display both their horsemanship and prowess as hunters using bows and arrows. Reynolds has created a scene of intense action and movement, but he has also been careful to include authentic details of the period, such as the handprint on the leading Indian’s white horse, a sign that this individual has touched an opponent in battle. The action is set against a parched and rolling prairie landscape underneath a cloud-filled blue sky. While the dust cloud from the riders and herd obscure the trailing Indians and animals, the leading players are shown in clear detail. Like many of his predecessor artists, most notably Charles M. Russell, Reynolds found in the buffalo hunt a subject that has universal appeal illuminating both the bravery and skill of the hunters and the magnificence of the hunted. This piece was first exhibited at the Prix de West Invitational held at the @nationalcowboymuseum in #OklahomaCity and subsequently found its home in The Eddie Basha Collection. - @bashacollection on Instagram

Im an East Coast girl, but I am loving painting the landscape of the West. This image is from 1954, but I dont know where it was shot. It has taken me a very long time to learn how to paint landscape, and I am not done learning. One helpful insight was to create atmospheric perspective by placing brown in the foreground, green in the mid-ground and blue in distance. I did the art for @jefferyself’s short film that he released yesterday. It’s so funny and goofy and it’s raising money for @bailproject. I did a lot of the work on this during the big rainstorm two weeks ago, while listening to Broadway musicals. It looked like Vancouver (my hometown) through the windows, and the whole scene transported me back to a childhood filled with rainy Saturdays spent drawing and listening to musicals. Connecting with that version of myself reminded me that I’ve loved to draw my entire life, and also that I am still who I have always been. I’m turning 30 in two weeks, and I feel more lost now than I have ever felt; I knew who I was and what I wanted, drawing at my kitchen table as a kid. I guess all of this is to say that I love to draw, and I want to do more of it, and I’m so happy that I got to do this project not only because it is joyful but also because it was a little wormhole to the past that helped me wave at myself as a kid, and she waved back with a confidence and a faith that I love. - @lulukrause on Instagram
