Real Czech beer is awesome, and they leave their mark on every style they produce. Thanks for sharing with me. Drinking it out of the souvenir glass. At first sight the beer has a caramel color, with tan beautiful tight foam with awesome stability, and it smells like they use grade A grains. At the first sip you notice a very nice body, with sweet caramel notes and a stern bitterness with prominent Czech hop notes, I like that it is not very bitter for an IPA (mainly talking about American IPAs) but then again that style quality is more of a US quality. It showcases absolute and total drinkability, by using classic hops for bittering with some twists, earthy and noble. #5835 Ras L’Bock Katyusha (Cognac) (Canada) Late night vibes, we figured we’d crack this big boy from Ras L’Bock for Dahn’s first ever imperial stout. Coming in at a big 11.9%, this RIS was aged in cognac barrels, it pours a light black with a foamy head and a boozy nose, the body is thinner than expected for the ABV, it’s chocolatey and oaky, creamy body, a touch bitter, smooth and fruity, a touch of vanilla, super smooth with a dry, clean finish. While the weather is definitely warming, Spring in Sydney can still throw up some cold nights. And that of course means big stouts. While @deedsbrewing have made a real name for themselves making immaculate hazy IPA’s their Dark Deeds side project make amazing stouts as well. There’s plenty of sweet pastry stouts going around at the moment, but the limited release The Second Horseman Imperial Stout is more my scene. A slow, evening sipper, this would be delicious with a couple of squares of good quality dark chocolate. Can. Pours deep black, with a rocking cappuccino coloured head that dissipates into a thin line as per the style. Aromas of dark and milk chocolate, hints of espresso and dark, dark toffee. Slightly sweet chocolate and gooey caramel, moving into a smokiness from heavily roasted malts and plenty of grog that never becomes hot. Smooth, slightly oily and rich. Delicious beer. 4/5. Trent. Titan’s Haze, Hazy Double IPA: Bonehead Brewing. 7.5% ABV @boneheadbrewingau are just near my work and although COVID has managed to get in the way of us getting to the brewery on a regular basis, we’re so glad that we’ve still been able to enjoy their beers at home during this time and I have to say, they have been putting out some great stuff too. Titan’s Haze is an example of that. The second in their new BONAFIDE series and only a few hours after canning, we were lucky enough to be pouring this creamy, hazy delight into a glass. It definitely looks inviting and the vanilla and pineapple aromas make it all the more so. It drinks beautifully smooth with soft tropical, citrus, melon flavours sitting alongside some sweet vanilla. A nice hoppy bitterness on finish. We loved trying it super fresh (thanks again for the sample Bonehead) but we’ve since gone out and grabbed a bunch more from @mccoppinsfoodandwine which we are continuing to enjoy. Tasty stuff guys.  As an added bonus we are feeling completely chuffed we have been invited to take up a Guest Photo Residency over at @boneheadbrewing for the next few Saturdays. We opened our doors at Schilling Beer Co. in an 18th century mill building at the end of September 2013.  Our debut featured five beers on tap, crafted on an electric five-barrel brewhouse with makeshift digital controls housed in a room behind the bar.  We had a dumbwaiter that ran (intermittently) between three of our four floors, and regularly hauled 55lb grain bags up the stairs into the mill on our third floor kitchen, gravity feeding it into our brewhouse below. We stored barrels for wood-aging under the floorboards in our fermentation space on the lowest river level. We relied on the cellar that sits below the river grade to keep our stored kegs below 60°F when they didnt fit into our walk-in. Our systems were laughable, at best, but they were what we could afford. Our personnel systems were also a work in progress. Stu ran the front of house and was on the line in the wood fired pizza kitchen, operating an oven that we built. Jeff bartended (poorly) and cleaned the building every morning. John slept four hours a night as he finished his tenure as an educator, brewing in the evening. The dedication of our staff and your support was what kept us going. Our employees and guests put up with quite a bit in those early years, as we were driven by a vision to create a one-of-a-kind experience that fused our riverside venue in the White Mountains with world-class European-inspired beers. Family, community and excellence were our foundational values. We clung to these ideals while aspiring to produce liquids and run an operation that would validate the dedication of our staff and the strong support of our community and guests. As we reflect on the conclusion of our seventh year and all of the (very) positive evolution within our brewery, we can only hope that you have enjoyed our beers and the experience of visiting Schilling as much as we have enjoyed crafting and refining them. The standard of being world-class is ever-elusive—a benchmark that, when attained in ones own eyes, implies failure. @timber_ales x @the8thstatebrewing collab Cosm of Darkness is an imperial stout conditioned on cassia bark and vanilla. Compared to the previous Moksa collab, this one was ridiculously smooth with almost no hint of booze being it a 12% beer. The cassia notes are prominent but no overbearing so those who cant stand cinnamon wont have an issue with this. Or least I dont. Vanilla presence is more subdued bud played well as it warmed up. Mouthfeel is perfection. And lets not even get to the label. Couldnt have chosen a perfect backdrop for this. Di casa Brewnerd, trattasi di una Belgian Saison clamorosa visto che è arricchita con pane di Matera IGP (100% semola rimacinata lucana) prodotto nello storico panificio locale @paneepace e rigorosamente cotto nel forno a legna. L odore del pane ed il suo sapore, combinato con il luppolo, rendono questa birra armonica ed elegante. La temperatura ideale per gustarla esaltandone le sue proprietà organolettiche, si aggira intorno ai 7°C. Gustarla è stato magnifico, unemozione unica avvertire la propria terra nel retrogusto di una birra. Managed to get our hands on some bottles of the highly anticipated #cronk revived by @cold_garden. As it has not been brewed in over #100years no one knows what it should taste like, but our thoughts are that it is not one to be slammed back and that it is best enjoyed sitting back and sipping on. We find the molasses and sarsaparilla flavours really come through with the molasses being more prominent. Maybe you might pick up some of the flavours from the other ingredients while the remaining flavours were subtle in the background. A HAPPY MISTAKE... ... as the story goes, is what led to the enigmatic Wheatwine. More akin to a strong version of American Wheat, rather than Barleywine, Wheatwine was first brewed in 1988 by Rubicon BC. A Long Story, Short is our second crack at this impressive style. And just to go full Newstead, we used 100% wheat malt, none of this barley rubbish. It was then aged for a whopping 12 months in used Tequila Barrels. Oily, chocolate-y, unctuous and silky, cut through with wood, acidic lemon and an oak-y finish. She’s one to savour, perfectly accessible in the original 250mL throw-down cans. @ballisticbeer Coup De Grace Imperial Stout 13.9% Another huge shout out to Chris at @beer.360 for this stunner. I think it is safe to say this is one of the more complex barrel aged stouts I have had this year. On the nose you get a mixture of dark malts, caramel and fortied rum. These aromas continue as flavours and are joined by chocolate, vanilla, raisins and brown sugar. It is hard to pin point where in the mouthful these flavours appear they seem to ebb and flow through out. When I was chatting to Jake a brewer for Ballistic a while ago and he spoke about the romance of barrel aging in that you never knew what a barrel would create. Romance has certainly been created here. How great is the beer community? I have to admit we had been feeling a bit down and frustrated about the latest tightening of lockdown restrictions in Victoria (along with the realisation that yet another of our planned trips to Western Australia would have to be cancelled). A huge fan of both iStout and iStout affogoto, let me say of the bat, this is equally as amazing but a very different beer. On appearance is that bright, BEAUTIFUL East coast, peach colored hazy. Generous, tight bubbled, cream colored head which stayed for a very short visit. Sparse, thin lacing. Hopped with Nelson, Motueka and chinook gives this brew a healthy dose of grapefruit pith with white grape, melon, white peach, white wine and suggestions of honey. On the taste are flavors of cantaloupe, sweet melon, white grape, pine, subtle mango and clover honey. Mouthfeel is smooth, creamy, fruity, peppery, transitions from a light sweetness to a gentle tartness. Mo bitterness and No burn from the higher 9.5%ABV. Soft carbonation. Medium body. Had the honor to try @santerobrewing first canned beer ever! We have tried his home brewing before and each time we have been blown away. @barreledsouls Island of Dr. Reese’s. This stout just dropped today (bottled 7/14/2020) and I knew it was going to be a good one when they announced it. The base beer for this was Make Me A Stout Clown which was a super tasty coconut stout released last year. This is that with peanut butter cups so it only makes it tastier. It tastes like a peanut butter cup with a hint of coconut on the finish. Extremely sweet and sneaky for an 11.9% stout. Glad I got the 3 bottle limit. Definitely will be enjoying this one a couple more times. Breaking in my 6th anniversary glass in style with a proper garnish too!! As long as Ive got my suit and tie 🤵🏻🤵🏻🤵🏻🤵🏻 Ive had the honor of having a lot of these remarkable homebrews. I have the bigger honor of calling these home brewers friends! To say that I was excited to get these two bottles from @eskerhart is an understatement! 1. Moose - an old ale brewed with molasses. The beer was then aged in Kings County Distillery wheat whiskey barrels for 9 months. Perfect amount of sweetness and the barrel comes through beautifully. (This is pictured in the glass) 2. Bear - an imperial stout aged in Kings County Distillery bourbon barrels then transferred into freshly dumped maple syrup barrels. This beer was just ridiculous! As I poured the beer into the glass the smell of the maple syrup started to get me excited. You could hear and see how thick the beer poured (dark, thick and beautiful). Then came the flavors and just like every stout Ive had from him... It was absolutely delicious! So much so that I sat back, relaxed and forgot to take a pic. Those who know me know thats rare. Thank you Bobby for these amazing treats. Today’s edition of #staylocal is M*A*S*H, a collab from @backchannelbrewing and @hoppygirlbrews (Aka @turningwatersbba). Clocking in at 16.5%, this was a heck of a way to start a Sunday. It is incredibly deep and layered, with chocolate and toffee at first, with later sips giving way to coffee and toasted marshmallow. Dark and rich, a definite slow sipper. I haven’t made it to @turningwatersbba yet but this shot it way up my list. I have been to @backchannelbrewing , and love their wide variety of offerings. The bowl may seem like a gimmick but after trying it you absolutely understand why people go nuts for it. They have also been huge proponents for the fight for 4, which is incredibly important as breweries look to survive the wild new world we find ourselves in. Minnesota has an incredible beer scene and I hope legislators will start working with breweries to help them endure their sudden shift in business practices - @mnbeerexplorer on Instagram

ROBUST PORTER: although I’ve tried not to get sad about it, this beer made me miss breweries even more and now Tassie seems even further away. So does tasting paddles and getting to try a brewery’s whole range of beers without getting wasted...or maybe just a little bit. This one hits you with a sweet aroma and initially tastes like vanilla. It’s thick with dark roasted malt and a bitter finish. We’ve teamed up with Lervig for our sixth and final Stone UNIQCAN release for 2018: a hot-fermented “Kveik” IPA. “Kveik” is one of the many Norwegian words for yeast – specifically yeast used in farmhouse brewing. The yeast we used in this beer ferments hotter than most and brings in strong pineapple, tangerine and other tropical flavors. We topped the recipe off with a typically-Stone lupulin boost, creating a hoppy and deliciously complex IPA - the perfect way to wrap up our first year with the Stone UNIQCAN series. 🇩🇪 🌍🍺 •

Not only is the #BlackIsBeautiful initiative from @weatheredsoulsbrewing raising awareness for the social injustices towards the Black community, I feel like its also brining the craft community a little closer together. For instance, I unfortunately missed on the BIB from @roadmapbrewing, but I was able to meet up with local @zak_erius71 for the first time and he was a pretty cool dude, especially since he had an extra from Roadmap to trade with me. Heres to making the world just a little bit better with one beer at a time! Lets take a look at this local version. • • Name: Black Is Beautiful ✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 Brewery: Roadmap Brewing Co., San Antonio, Texas 📍 Style: American Imperial / Double Stout 🇺🇸🇺🇸🍫🍫 Alcohol: 9% 📊 • • Poured at 50°F from a 16oz can (no date) into a Belgian tulip. Consumed on 31Aug20. TASTE: Starts with a mild chocolate sweetness accompanied by subtle caramel and toffee. A touch of sweet coffee with hints of burnt toast, pecans, and walnuts proceed. Hints of tobacco, fig, plum, peach, and banana lastly join as the coffee becomes slightly burnt. NOTE: This was not as bold as the original Weathered Souls version, but it did have some pros. The chocolate itself was sweeter along with the coffee notes. This was not as roasty as the others so it ultimately balanced out. I thought the peach and banana fruitiness were a delicious aspect for this Stout that the others have not had. 🍻 OVERALL RATING: 4.0 / 5.0 - @beer_reviewer on Instagram

“Sauce” Starwood Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. Besides the spelling question of Starward whisky, there is no question these guys know how to make a great imperial stout. The regular non barrel aged version I hold in a very high category. This is pretty damn nice too. Thick and luscious with not too much booze coming through for a whisky barrel aged. Flavour is really good, but just finishes a touch too soon to be picky. Definitely an outstanding beer, but strangely prefer the non barrel 12% Imperial just by a whisker.
