The Atcheson / Folsom Home. 1895 In August of 1895, Lewis D. Folsom purchased a lot in the center of the 800 block of Center Street for $450. Here he built the stylish two-story, eight-room home at 829, with its typical Queen Anne adornments such as spindle trim above the porch and windows, and elegant turret with its fish scale roof. Born in Maine, Folsom had come to Nevada in 1874 and opened a store in Gold Hill. He met Mary Keville, who had come west from Massachusetts and the two married in Dayton. Ten years later they moved to Reno, where with a partner named Gallatin, Folsom bought out Jerry Schooling’s grocery business. The house was designed and built by architect George E. Holesworth, who that same year was appointed supervising architect for the University. It featured the latest conveniences including a modern range, gas and electric lights in every room, and a dumb waiter comprised of shelves that could be raised or lowered to the cellar at the push of a finger. The foundation was made of stone from a quarry north of Reno owned by Robert L. Fulton. The house’s completion was such a notable event that the newspaper raved in December of 1895, “in point of architectural beauty and modern convenience it is doubtful if there is another residence in town that can equal it.” Lewis died in 1918 but Mary Folsom remained in the Center Street home she loved for many more years. Around 1943, the home was purchased by Katie Atcheson. and was later passed down to her son Merle and his wife Mary, a talented and much-in-demand pianist. Their son Fred, a local attorney, occupied the house and continues to live there to this day. He divided the home into apartments and rented to university students. He sold the property to the University of Nevada, Reno in early 2016 and in 2019 it was announced that this property along with others in the Gateway District will be demolished to make way for UNR expansion. А далі пригадали історію незалежного Луцька та волелюбних лучан. ⠀ Секретар Луцької міської ради Григорій Пустовіт привітав лучан та гостей міста, яких на майдані зібралося кілька сотень. ⠀ Люди, які життєвим прикладом і своєю працею зробили значний внесок у становлення держави, отримали звання «Почесного громадянина міста». ⠀ Загиблих, які боролися за кордони України, вшанували хвилиною мовчання. ⠀ На сцені виступило кілька музичних колективів. ⠀ Як зазначила у коментарі «Конкуренту» Депутатка Луцької міської ради, представниця Громадянського Руху «СВІДОМІ» Алла Надточій, Луцьк має свою неповторну історію, якою потрібно пишатися. ⠀ «Луцьк – це для мене домівка. Це те, що дало мені життя, земля, на якій ми росли і з якими почуттями ми пішли в світ. Це місто, куди хочеться повертатися. Тому я б хотіла, щоб наше місто і надалі робило для молоді все те, щоб вони тут могли розвиватися, жити, працювати і створювати свої сім’ї. Хочу привітати наш Луцьк і лучан з тим, що у нас є історія. Історія, якою потрібно пишатися, яку потрібно знати і творити нову», – розповіла Алла Надточій. ⠀ На святкування Дня міста запросили скульптора Миколу Голованя. ⠀ «Гарна погода, збираються лучани – що може бути краще? Ввечері, до речі, буде відкриття алеї у парку. А парк – то моє дітище. For years, the Stampede Corral played host to special wrestling supershows promoted by Stu Harts Stampede Wrestling, particularly during the Calgary Stampede. Stampede Wrestling is known for having featured some of the biggest names in pro wrestling history prior to its purchase by World Wrestling Federation in 1984, including @brethitmanhart , Archie Gouldie, Dan Kroffat and @jakethesnakeddt . Han var verksam i Linköping och har ritat en stor mängd byggnader i stan, men även byggnader t.ex. i Norrköping, Västervik och Örebro. Vattentornet är 44,5 meter högt med tegel från Helsingborg och Hyllinge och innehöll 900 kubikmeter vatten. Vattentornet användes till 1958 och byggdes om till bostäder 1988. Ventilen på bilden användes i tornet. The old water tower in Linköping. Built in 1910 in art noveau style. Architect was Axel Brunskog, well known architect in Linköping. The tower is 44,5 meter high and was used until 1958. Selle Generator Works Akron OH The Selle Gear Company was incorporated September 25, 1886. Their specialty was the manufacture of the Selle Platform Truss Gears, for omnibuses, three spring wagons and trucks, as well as suspensions and parts for horse-drawn carriages. Akron Selle Co. produced parts for cars, trucks and planes -- and even gasoline gauges for dirigibles. Akron Selle continued to make sheet metal stampings for the auto industry until they closed their doors for good in March 2001. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 9, 2005. The historic property is now known as The Selle Generator Works. You walk by Ochos all the time. Ever been curious about some of the history? This incredible building was built way back in 1892! It originally started as two duplexes that shared a middle wall. Can you believe it had 16 fire places?! Some of the originals are still in the building as beautiful architectural enhancements. At some point in its lifetime the building actually caught fire. If you look closely you can still see some of the scorched wood! Come see the history and renovations for yourself! We are now open Friday and Saturday nights at 5:00pm. I once asked Liz Del Tufo, the president of the Newark Landmarks, which building in Newark she most wanted to save. Her answer was Warren Street School. Unfortunately she may not get her wish. The Yorkville Fire Hall 🚒, today known as Toronto Fire Station 312, is the oldest #firehall in Toronto. Its located at 34 Yorkville Ave, in the Bloor-Yorkville neighbourhood. In 1876, the quaint village had a fire house constructed that had a 5-storey tower and two bays built on the site. It was designed by architects Herbert Hancock and Samuel Townsend. In 1889, that structure except for the tower, was demolished and replaced with todays fire hall. The architectural gem was designed by Mancel Willmot and is made of yellow brick with dark orange brick highlights. Also known as Fire Station No. 10, the fire hall was restored and renovated to accommodate another truck in 1974. The Toronto Historical Board gave the #firehouse heritage status in 1975. When the Citys fire service amalgamated in 1998, it was renamed Toronto Fire Station 312. Today, the fire hall is over 140 years old and is situated amongst posh shops and next to the Four Seasons Hotel. The heritage building also serves as one of the busier fire stations in the City. ✨The Coat of Arms✨ Yorkville had a beautiful High Victorian style town hall on the west side of Yonge St at Collier St. In 1941, that building was destroyed by fire, but the town halls clock 🕰 and Coat of Arms were saved (slide 10). The clock was transferred to the tower of the fire hall while the Coat of Arms was added to the buildings front.
