The complete satisfaction of my own company, the spell of a book, the symbolism of the dog fur that clings to my track pants, the delicate conviction of mushrooms sprouting from dead wood, the magnificence of moths and beetles and cicadas, the way Badal looks in the mist, the way Bijli heaves a sigh when she climbs onto the sofa to sleep by my side, the scratch of my pen as I write in my diary. Everything really. As a child I suppose I was ambitious. I though I would save the world. The notion is laughable today. Somewhere in my twenties my ambition evaporated, I am more committed to my own brand of Dharma now. You got to do what you got to do. It is hopeless to hold the world to your values, your morals, your ethic. The only person who can possibly live upto these is yourself. And that too is no easy task. Of course I am not self-actualised. My temper still flares, my tongue cuts sharply, my vices are too many to enumerate. But I suppose there is a knowing. A knowing of what I value, what I seek, what I admire. I love nuance and depth and mystery. But equally I understand that I find stillness because I preserve my simple-mindedness. A major turning point in my body acceptance journey came only recently. It’s taken me decades to start shedding the self-consciousness and shame around my body — regardless of its actual form. From being a 12 year old flipping through the pages of the “perfect” women in Cosmopolitan, to the first time I was intimate with someone and walking backwards out of the room so they wouldn’t see my “imperfections”, to being totally comfortable in a bikini on a bodybuilding stage at ~10% body fat but ruthlessly judgmental of myself in the offseason when those same clothes wouldn’t fit. No one along the way ever showed us what real humans look like. What real bodies do at rest, in motion, sitting, laying, subject to gravity; how different but the same everyone actually is. How you can be healthy and strong while also having cellulite and sagging skin. How hairs grow from interesting places because that’s just how your genetics panned out. These things are not wrong or bad — they just ARE; no judgement needed. ✌️ Over this summer, my husband and I decided to visit a clothing optional resort. This was one of the first times I was around 100s of normal humans in various levels of undress. And. It. Was. Transformative. ✨ It took about 20 minutes for the nerves to settle, and once I saw how absolutely no one cared about their jiggly bits.. I stopped caring too. Never had I been surrounded by so many naked people and felt so comfortable. We swam in the pool, watched naked people play volleyball, and generally basked in the feeling of freedom that you can’t find in many other places. There was no shame, no disgust, and nothing sexual; just normal humans doing normal things and saying a big fuck you to their previous conditioning. If I could, I would take everyone to a place like that at least once. The veil lifts and the spell is broken, the one that says you don’t deserve to love your body in its current form and it needs to change. This is real life; this is what real humans look like. It’s an education I think so many people struggling with their body image would benefit from. Perfection is unattainable and boring. Be free. - One of my illegal grows got busted the other day. The sheriff gave me 2 days to cut down all the plants (around 200). so me and the homies Dug each plant out by the roots and planted them in different pots and moved them about 50 ft under the trees 😂. Fuck 12
