Not only is it Mid-September (which allows me to get a grip on the summer weather leaving), but my large pumpkin order shipped this morning AND it is the first day that is really FEELING like fall (so I obviously had to put on a sweater... Drop a 🙌 for some real talk! Theres been something on my heart that I felt like I have to share. I recently had a client tell me that her 7 year old daughter started saying I dont like my body, I wish I was smaller. This mom felt so devastated and scared her daughter was going to start disordered eating habits. She said I dont want her to grow up struggling with her relationship with food and her body, and I dont want to pass on any bad habits I gave this mom personalized strategies that helped her daughter grow to have a positive relationship with food and her body. She felt so relieved to be preventing disordered eating habits 🙌 Your kids think the world of you, and even if you dont think theyre watching and listening, they are. If they hear their parents talking negatively about their body, they may think well what about me? So why is a Dietitian talking about body image? Kids body image starts to develop in early childhood. Theres some research that says kids who are around parents who express body dissatisfaction, may internalize that and “mirror” those feelings too. It also mentions that children who are unhappy with their bodies are at risk to engage in disordered eating habits. Body image can affect a child’s nutrition. So, even if you dont feel great about your body, be kind to your body. Kids need to grow up seeing adults who respect their bodies, because our positive self-talk can become their positive self-talk 🤗. When you buy a new ceiling fan for your kiddo’s room and it looks like it was literally designed *specifically* for that space.... 💪🏻 🔥 🤩 While I picked out the new fan, my 8-year old daughter selected so much of the decor for her bedroom: the colorful rug, some throw pillows, and even her bedding. Instead of giving her a free for all and telling her she could pick out whatever she wanted, I presented her with three options in each category (rugs, bedding, etc.) and then let her make the final call. At first i wasn’t sure she’d go for the idea of having just a few options, but thankfully it worked out REALLY well in reality. 🌟 Thank goodness.....because there was absolutely a chance that this all would’ve turned into a giant decorating brawl between mother and daughter. 😂 But it didn’t. {DIY Counter Cleaner Recipe} Have you made any DIY home cleaners? Ive tried baking soda and vinegar (mixed with some essential oils since my husband hates the smell of vinegar) to clean mostly! Then after buying @simplylivingwells book (link below), I got a little more experimental. Ive made counter spray for stone twice. Its stupidly easy and so inexpensive. The recipe is here - slide left. And Ive made “toilet bombs.” You drop them in the bowl and then 30 minutes later, scrub your toilet! It took me a little while to find all the ingredients and I didnt pack them enough the first time I made them, but I like the ease of it - it actually makes me clean the bathroom a little more often! This made me realize that having a functional organized space makes all the difference. So now I am on a mission to make my entire home organized and functional for our lifestyle. If you are planning on giving your laundry room a makeover, here are two tips when decide what will make it more functional for you Aside from obvious laundry essentials what else will you storing in your laundry room? (cleaning products? sheets? comforters? pillows? towels?) What do you find yourself saying that you had would make your life easier when doing laundry? Oh Baby! 👶🏼 We held our baby shower 2 weeks ago & it was perfect. We had a small family shower for a couple of hours and followed it by a shower / party with friends. It was such a good time that we forgot to play the two games we had planned! It was genuinely a celebration of bringing a wee one into the world. Tequeila shots included (but not for momma!) It was amazing to see many people we love & spend time with them. We appreciated so many thoughtful & adorable gifts. The highlight of the day was receiving the last knitted blanket Morgan’s Nana made before her passing 6 years ago. Morgan grew up with a comfort blanket she called “smelly” that her Nana made, and still has it today! After her Nana’s passing her mom & aunt found this last blanket while cleaning out her Nana’s closet. They put it aside for our future child. It was an incredible surprise to receive. For someone with such a neutral color scheme, I’m sure bringing in some pops of color throughout my home this year for Fall. Its really all about the details. 🖤 . We had a kitchen emergency during the peak of the quarantine. Our kitchen faucet was dripping non-stop day and night and as much as my husband is super handy around the house, we knew it was time to replace it. Unfortunately, we had to make do with the faucets available in our nearby hardware store because we really couldnt travel far. Suffice to say there werent a lot to choose from but we had to make do in the meantime. 😐 . Finally when the restrictions eased up, I messaged @homestorephilippines ( I got my clawfoot tub from them and Ive been a fan ever since) to ask about their available kitchen faucets. I decided on this piece and had it delivered to our home. I loved its high-arc gooseneck, swivel-spout feature, and antique black finish. Aint she a beauty? It also has an aerator that draws in air so you get stronger water pressure while using less water. This little space already holds so many memories for me. It’s the first room that was finished at our new house, our new chapter. It’s the room I spent most of my time in during showings at our old house, watching Netflix while I was super pregnant. It’s the room I was sitting in where I started timing contractions & decided it was time to go to the hospital (two weeks early, a smidge unexpectedly). Our playroom was driving me nuts with how plain it was, even I didn’t want to be in there none the less the kids. I came across this wallcovering and it gave me life, no joke! I finally got it up on the wall and could not be happier... it is so pretty! Topped it off with some gorgeous wood ledges which I hung with command strips so I wouldn’t ruin the wallpaper if I ever want to move it. This is my dear friend Melissa, and she’s wearing this fall’s “full heart” t-shirt (only 20 left!). Melissa & her husband Nick live in our neighborhood, and have been a part of our neighborhood @weare_heartland small group since we moved here. When I first met Melissa, we were both pregnant with our boys, and Melissa had just decided to leave her corporate job (with lots of money & lots of responsibility) because she felt God was calling her to stay home with her kids — a wild, drastic change from her currant life. A few weeks later, she & Nick received the news of Augie’s Down Syndrome diagnosis, and welcomed it with open arms & loving hearts. But that wasn’t all, Augie also had a heart defect, and a syndrome involving his GI system & both made his health extremely critical. He had a 50% survival rate, and we watched in those months before and after Augie’s birth as they walked through uncertainty after uncertainty, hospitalizations, home nursing, surgeries... I felt so guilty that my son, Phoenix, was just fine, while Melissa’s son was fighting to stay alive with every breath. Oh, the things we don’t know until hindsight, right? Often times, we want God to tell us our future. I know I do. But now, I know that He doesn’t because the truth is, we couldn’t handle it. We couldn’t handle the bigness of it. Not the intense beauty or intense pain People say that God only gives you what you can handle. I disagree. Melissa and I can both tell you, we’ve come completely undone. I would say, instead, that you can’t handle what God gives you until you have to. Until you have no choice, because it’s all you have. I’ll tell you this though — Augie is thriving, Melissa became president of the Down Syndrome Diagnosis Network, began Wonderfully Made — the special needs ministry at our church, & she is also my Business Manager (you know, in her down time). Who knew 5 years ago that Melissa would begin a ministry that my daughter would be a part of? God did. I’m so glad I didn’t. But this is the life, right? Broken, Beautiful, and too big to comprehend the story He is writing. Melissa is the epitome of “full heart”. Miss Halo loves coming along for the ride while I cook these days. She watches with fascination—and of course tries to grab everything and shove it in her mouth. It means dinner prep takes twice as long, but it’s so fun to lay the groundwork for time together in the kitchen when she’s older. Now if only I could get her to do the dishes! // I posted in stories about our new @caraway_home cookware and so far we’re loving it! Each piece has a mineral-based coating that’s a non-toxic alternative to traditional non-stick materials. Plus they heat up SO much faster and require lower heat in general (yay for saving energy)!
