This #LaborDay, were thinking of #agriculture #workers, who have always been essential, but whose labor is even more important during the #COVID19 #pandemic. Yet they are among the workers most vulnerable to contracting the virus, often unable to access the same supports as other workers. Smoke and instability from #wildfires compound the risks they face every day. Our staff across rural #California are working hard with a variety of partners to get masks, food, know your rights information, and other resources to agriculture workers. For example, our Fresno team partnered with Catholic Charities, Diocese of Fresno to host a drive-through event in Five Points that distributed hundreds of masks and bags of food to agriculture workers and their families. On September 24, 1989, the headline of Michelangelo Signoriles article in OutWeek magazine read: AIDS Activists Storm Stock Exchange, Halting Trading.⠀ -⠀ The article reported on the September 14, 1989, noontime rally at the New York Stock Exchange led by ACT UP New York and targeting Burroughs Wellcome and other pharmaceutical companies that manufactured high-priced drugs to fight AIDS, such as AZT. The demonstration was planned to coincide with those held in San Francisco and London that day.⠀ -⠀ Separate from the afternoon rally, ACT UP members Peter Staley, Lee Arsensault, Greg Bordowitz, Scott Robbe, and James McGrath infiltrated the Stock Exchange that morning. They were joined by members Robert Hilferty and Richard Elovitch, who photographed the action. Chaining themselves to the VIP balcony, they dropped fake $100 bills onto the trading floor and disrupted the opening bell for the first time in history. The photographs were given to the Associated Press and the story went national. The night of the 19th I was filled with panic that no one would show up to the strike the next day. Waking up to the news that Australia had already seen 300k people on strike was incredible. Watching the crowds fill in to the London Strike was the most surreal feeling I’d ever felt, people as far as I could see. Young people. Older people. Workers. Students. Parents. Grandparents. I could hear the roar of the crowd from behind the stage, the chanting, the energy and power. And then we marched. Marching alongside 100,000 other people motivated by the same goal. But this was not like any climate protest I had ever seen before and not just because of numbers. This was a protest that showed the link between workers rights and climate change. Migrants rights and climate change. It was deeply political without being partisan. I am currently exhausted and overwhelmed and elated, but most of all I’m so fucking proud of every one who pulled this together across the country. So much love to all of @ukscn.london especially. I’m overjoyed to announce my painting ‘The Past Is Now’ is now part of the permanent collection @birmingham_mag. I made this work in response to ‘What does it mean to be British?’ for @skyarts and was exhibited @balticgateshead 2019. This is a portrait of me with my parents. This work came about from my frustration over recent years with this idea of who has the ‘right’ to call Britain home. I think there is a huge lack of understanding of our own history. This painting explores the complex role of the British Empire in the construction of Modern British culture and identity. There is too much behind this painting for me to sum up here! But I must say that this painting means a lot to me. My parents met and married in Birmingham so I am delighted for it to have a home there. This work was incredibly difficult to make as my Father passed away unexpectantly the day after I took the photos for this work. I can’t say my Dad always liked what I made but he was really excited about this picture. I like to think he would be proud that it will hang on the walls @birmingham_mag. We have just gotten word that the Minneapolis Public School Board will vote on Tuesday, 6/2, to end their contract with the Minneapolis Police Department. In August 2017, MPS signed a contract for $1.17 million dollars for 17 Student Resource Officers (cops in schools) district-wide. YPAC has been organizing and protesting against this contract since 2017, and along with the help of organizations such as MPD 150, Reclaim the Block, Our Turn Twin Cities, and Black Liberation Project, we are closer to success than we have ever been before. Were asking for one final push from you. YPAC member Rayna wrote a script to fill in and send out to school board members and the superintendent Ed Graff. Please take 5 minutes out of your day and help us get these KKKops out of our schools! yesterday i joined up with a thousand skateboarders, roller skaters, and bikers during a peaceful protest in salt lake city. it was a day i will never forget. i was surrounded by so many people who love and support black lives. the power and happiness i felt was the best feeling i’ve ever had. growing up wasn’t easy because i was always “different” i still get comments about the color of my skin. things like, “i act blacker than you do” “you’re pretty for a black girl” “you are the whitest black girl i’ve ever seen” “i’ve never been with a black girl before” i remember when i was 5, a little girl sitting next to me licked her finger and wiped it on my cheek to see if my skin color would come off. i am now 21 and it hurts to know that racism still exists... it was the best feeling to be alongside so many skaters fighting for the same cause. it made me thankful for the people around me. i am SO thankful for my family, friends, and my classic family. they show me so much love and support. i am also thankful for everyone for fighting with us. thank you for seeing us. thank you for standing with us. and thank you for supporting us. being black is not a crime !! it’s time for a change- let’s make it happen. #blacklivesmatter - @kobiehofheins on Instagram

I cannot believe it’s been 2 years since the world lost J Gold. He was iconic. He was LA. He was gold.💛In case u don’t know the story behind this illustration /print, here it is...I had just judged the @kcrwgoodfood pie contest with him a few months before and I psyched myself up to go introduce myself to him at the very end (there are a lot of judges and our categories didn’t overlap)and it went better than I imagined. When I started to explain who I was, he cut me off and said he already knew, had a tote bag I designed for KCRW and that he liked my art (say whaaaat?!)😱. He complimented me on a passion project I did the year before, where I illustrated highlights from episodes of Good Food, but then he gave me this kinda sad, pouty face and said he noticed that his restaurant reviews weren’t included in any of the illustrations. OOPS! That WAS true, but like, there were more timeless things to illustrate each week than a restaurant review. He said “I get it” but he was still kinda waiting to see me draw something he said on air. I excitedly and immediately promised him that I’d draw him something special and it’d be cool! He acted like that would make up for it and said he’d like that. Then I asked for a photo and made a joke about wishing I had on suspenders, to pull out and snap for the photo. He didn’t skip a beat and said I could pull his out for the photo, if I wanted. 😂 I was into it (swipe to see the photo)! When I heard the news of his passing I thought of what I promised him, then spent the next day going through episodes of Good Food from 2017 and listened to ALL his reviews. I pulled out the lines I thought he’d like and created this tribute illustration. I hate that I didn’t get to make this before, so he could see it and hopefully be stoked, but better late than never. And this wasn’t gonna be a print until all of you on IG asked for it because you wanted a little piece of him in your homes. So thank you, that means a lot.
