Weve got some exciting news to share! We have recently been successful for an Esmee Fairbairn funded project to digitise, catalogue and share with you some never-before-seen photographs from Ealing Studios. ‘Shooting Stars: Behind the Scenes at Ealing Studios’ will look at the photographic collection of Stills Photographer Roy Gough. He photographed some of the biggest stars of the mid 20th century including Sir Roger Moore, Audrey Hepburn, Sir Alec Guinness and Sir Michael Redgrave and worked on well-known Ealing Studios films like The Captive Heart and Whisky Galore! Over the next few months we will be sharing some of these photographs online. This image is of Sir Michael Balcon and Sir Harry Secombe on the set of the comedy-drama “Davy”. Balcon ran Ealing Studios from 1938-1955 and is a legendary figure in the British Film Industry, producing some of Ealing Studios’ most well-known films such as Passport to Pimlico and The Lavender Hill Mob. Who remembers this film? We would love for our community to help us to describe these photos, identify the people in them and share your memories of these iconic films and figures to help us catalogue this unique collection. #ShootingStars #EalingStudios #Cinema #FortheLoveofGunnesbury #MichaelBalcon #HarrySecombe #filmnoir - @gunnersburyparkmuseum on Instagram

On the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain myself and Peter are sad to not be travelling to the UK for the annual service at Westminster Abbey. We attend annually to commemorate Peters father, Group Captain Peter G. St. G. OBrian OBE, DFC who was an RAF Spitfire pilot and one of The Few in the Battle of Britain. We may not be travelling to London for the service, but we continue to remember 80 years later. - @carolyn.bennett.stpauls on Instagram

Happy Birthday to @michaelkirkdouglas! Propelled to fame with Romancing the Stone in 1984, he went on to star in Fatal Attraction with Glenn Close, Wall Street, Basic Instinct, The Rainmaker, and many others. Most currently, he’s acted in Marvel movies Ant-Man and The Avengers. We chatted with the actor and producer back in 2010 - while in radiation treatment for tongue cancer and during the box office release of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. Here’s a snippet from the interview - read more at citylifemagazine.ca: Q: At this point in your career, how important is it to find different kinds of characters to play? A: Actually, it’s crucial. It’s the only reason to get out of the house, quite honestly – unless you find something that is exciting and motivating. I’m in a great place in my life personally right now in terms of Catherine [Zeta-Jones] and our two little, young children that we really enjoy. So I don’t get out that often to go do stuff. You have to trust your instincts and I like flying without a net. I enjoy that risk-taking aspect. It’s exciting for me. Q: There are very rare relationships between actors like the one you’ve had with Danny Devito. Tell me about this lifelong friendship. You guys have worked together often. Is your friendship and professional relationship hard to balance? A: It’s seamless. It’s the beauty about working with friends. I mean, I know now why people like to work together. It’s because you don’t have to go through that formality, that dance of introductions, the this-and-that. There’s a familiarity. We’re old buddies and so in the limited time that we have together; there’s a comfort factor. Plus, he’s funny. He’s funny off the set or on the set. He can’t help himself. So I completely understand why people like to work with the same actors and/or the same directors again and again, especially as the schedules and the budgets get shorter and tighter every year. You don’t have a lot of time to get to know each other. • • • #michaeldouglas #happybirthday #moviestar #actor #celebrity #producer #cancersurvivor #hollywoodfilm #catherinezetajones #romancingthestone #fatalattraction #wallstreet #basicinstinct #avengers - @citylifemag on Instagram

( Hysteria ) As she laughed I was aware of becoming involved in her laughter and being part of it, until her teeth were only accidental stars with a talent for squad-drill. I was drawn in by short gasps, inhaled at each momentary recovery, lost finally in the dark caverns of her throat, bruised by the ripple of unseen muscles. An elderly waiter with trembling hands was hurriedly spreading a pink and white checked cloth over the rusty green iron table, saying: “If the lady and gentleman wish to take their tea in the garden, if the lady and gentleman wish to take their tea in the garden…” I decided that if the shaking of her breasts could be stopped, some of the fragments of the afternoon might be collected, and I concentrated my attention with careful subtlety to this end. Very cool to meet Hope the Wombat and some other young joeys at the Australian Reptile Park, near Gosford today. The Park had to shut down at the start of the #COVID19 pandemic but thanks to more than $170,000 from our zoos support package and —#JobKeeper they were able to ensure the animals were well cared for and keep all 41 of their staff employed. Great to see they’re now pretty much back to business as normal and the Park will come off both the zoo and JobKeeper supports in the next few weeks. While I was there, I also had the chance to lend a hand to prep some food for the cassowaries.
